  1. Tbog12, I was thinking the same thing. It will give us time to sit by the pool, unpack, eat dinner and then hit the sailaway party. But just wondered if our embarkation time would be bumped back because of the late departure.

If you have Select Dining, make sure you go to dinner as early as possible. They start clearing out the dining room around 7 or so for muster drill. On our Summit cruise from San Juan, we went to dinner at 6:15 and were just able to finish our entree before they kicked us out.

  2. I agree that many of the tours start far too early in the day. I'm not much of an excursion person anyway but when I do want to book one, the start times put me off a lot of times. And my BF hates having to wake up at a certain time on vacation, so I have to factor that in to whatever we decide to do. I was considering a beach excursion through Celebrity on my upcoming cruise but it starts at 9am and only lasts about 3 hours. The draw for me was that it includes drinks, but even though I'm a pretty big drinker, beer and rum punch in the AM hours isn't my idea of fun. I would love it if port times shifted later across the board. I'd much rather be in port 10am - 6 or 7pm rather than 7 or 8am - 4 or 5pm.

  3. I saw dolphins on my most recent cruise. It was on the last day of a Bermuda cruise from Boston. I saw them while I was eating breakfast, then saw some again (maybe the same ones) while I was gazing over the promenade deck railing in the afternoon. Sadly, I haven't seen any whales on cruises, but I did see a lot (plus a harbor seal) on a whale watch from Boston a few summers ago.

  4. A quick question about Cafe al Bacio if you don't mind. Is the food all at no extra charge except for the gelato, just like the International Cafe? And is the variety similar: pastries in the morning; sandwiches, salads and desserts the rest of the day? (OK, that was two questions. My bad.)

There are no sandwiches or salads at Cafe al Bacio. In the afternoon and evening they have cakes, cookies, and other dessert items.

  5. 3) Can I get mojitos and painkillers on the classic package? I understand that I can upgrade to the premium package. Is it still an $11 a day difference whether upgrading prior to the cruise or onboard? Does everyone in the cabin have to upgrade?

These drinks (and most other standard cocktails) are included in the Classic package as long as you order them with liquor brands that fall under the package. For rum, the Classic package includes Bacardi, Bacardi 8, and Myers's. If you prefer Mount Gay or Pyrat you'd need the Premium package. If you don't specify you'll get well rum which is usually Ron Roberto or something else in a plastic bottle.

  6. I can highly recommend Spoon Food Tours Sip and Savor tour. We did this last year during our Silhouette stop in San Juan. It starts at 5:30 and you wander through OSJ and stop at 4 different places for drinks and food. You get a lot of history as well.

What time did this tour end? I think this would be a good option for our stop in San Juan but I'm concerned about getting back in time for a 9pm departure.

  7. Do you get to use your beverage package as soon as you board?

Wondering because I read on another board (another line) that if you do they charge tax on the drink before sailaway. (this was NCL ... you know how they are.:()

There is a tax on drinks purchased before sailaway. The difference is that if you have the beverage package, Celebrity covers the tax in your drink allowance, but NCL makes you pay the tax separately. On my recent NCL cruise I had to pay about $3 for taxes on drinks I had before we left port. Not a huge deal but one of many little reasons that made me not like NCL at all.

  8. I was in Bermuda last week and tried to go to Clearwater Beach. They said the bus for St. David's had a flat tire or something so it wasn't operating. They had a van and a small SUV doing the loop around St. George. We went to St. Catherine's and Achilles Bay before deciding that we would spend the day at Tobacco Bay, and I was surprised that the driver took us directly to Tobacco Bay instead of continuing the loop.

  9. You will have to declare it on your customs form as "food", so there may be more questions, and you may have to show it at customs.

My BF and I have brought back rum cake a couple times and have never been questioned or asked to show it. I don't think customs has ever given my form more than half a glance.

  10. Anxiously following. I leave on the Dawn in 10 days!

You think you're anxious? I leave THIS FRIDAY

Ok, I know I shouldn't worry about it (yet.) But my BF was asking me yesterday about what would happen if the ship suddenly developed a mechanical problem or if the ship was late arriving in Boston. He doesn't believe in jinxes, but if this turns into something that affects our cruise it will clearly be ALL HIS FAULT :D

  11. Just one more reason not to cruise NCL

So true. BF and I were just talking about how we probably should have gone to NJ and taken the Summit. We wanted an easy trip out of a port that is 20 minutes from our apartment, and we knew NCL would be a VERY different experience for us, but it seems every week brings some new disappointing change. I'm determined to have a good time on my upcoming cruise, but it's looking like this will be our first and last NCL cruise.

  12. I've been in 2106 and 2110 and I LOVED the location of those cabins. I never heard any noise coming from upstairs. BF said he heard footsteps once or twice but that was it. The best part of those cabins was being so close to the buffet for quick snacks and the pool bar for exercising our drink packages :p Can't comment on the smoke as these cabins are on the other side.

  13. I just think its crazy....that my DL is valid when boarding the cruise....and it will only be 9 hours expired when I get off!! I know this is my error!!! I didn't even think about it until someone mentioned my Bday...and for some reason it all came back to me. Wish me luck all!!!! Thanks again for reply's

Something like this happened to me...I was at the bar in North Station waiting for a train and the bartender wished me a happy birthday, then told me my license was expiring the next day. I don't know whose bright idea it was to have driver's licenses expire on your birthday  Hopefully you can figure this out. Happy birthday and enjoy your cruise!

  14. One thing I noticed is that there is a Dunkin Donuts on every street it seemed like. They were just everywhere. Not only did they have one there beside Subway, but directly across the street at the grocery store there was another. Are there a lot of cops in Boston? (just kidding).

It's not a mirage...there really is a Dunkin Donuts on every street in the Boston area. DD started in Quincy, MA (just over the river from your hotel) so that is why there are so many around here. One time I counted that I pass 7 on my way to work (about 3.5 miles from my house.)

  15. I usually start with the farthest away the first day then move closer to the dockyard each day.

Last year we took the 9:30 ferry to St George- walked around to see a few sights (St Peter's, unfinished church, Ordanace Island, Alexandra Battery) then spent the afternoon at Clearwater Beach

Next day we took the ferry back to St George and spent the morning at Tobacco Bay then toured Fort St Catherine's you can then take bus into Hamilton (it's about 45-60 min ride) to get a good view of the island, walk around there for a bit then take ferry back to Dockyard

We had done Swizzle Inn and Crystal Caves on a previous visit but they are located between St George and Hamilton (a little closer to St George)

Last day we went to Daniel's Head Beach in the morning and rented stand-up paddleboards (you can go to Horseshoe Bay Beach instead) then walked around the Dockyards and shopped before getting back onboard to leave :(

This year we are going to try to visit Gibbs Lighthouse, do afternoon tea and go to the Nature Preserve

I'm thinking of going to Clearwater Beach. How did you get there from the ferry?

  16. My memory is a bit hazy, but at Trunk Bay there was a hut renting all sorts of beach stuff, including chairs. I think they were the cheapo beach chairs with the vinyl straps like my grandma would bring when we went to the local beach. There aren't loungers lined up for rent like at some other beaches, and I think you had to drag the chairs to the beach and set them up yourself. We didn't rent chairs because they required a deposit of around $25 or so (in addition to the rental fee.) The deposit is refundable but I seem to remember you had to put it on a credit card which we didn't want to do. We just put our towels down in the sand and that was fine for us.

  17. OP here. We got back from our cruise on Sunday. We did the Luggage Valet and the TSA Pre-Check worked fine. We also took advantage of the overweight fee being waived, which is a great benefit. My BF was worried about our luggage not showing up back home but it did. I definitely think Luggage Valet is worth the fee.
