  1. Cruising on the Legend today. Woke up for no reason today at 6:00 and thought of this thread. Guess I will have to find out what I will do if I am awake that early on the cruise.

I would like to sit on the balcony or walk the track.

Have a FABULOUS trip. I love the Legend. You can find out tomorrow what's fun to do at 5:30.:D

  2. Anyone just off the Liberty who might know what movies were showing?

You might try going to roll calls for the Liberty and post on one that has just returned to see if anyone will answer you. Sometimes people still post on them even after the cruise is over. Good luck

  3. We've booked Carnival for Alaska for next summer. I guess now I'm worried and confused. I priced HAL & RCL (11,000), Princess (17,000), Disney (28,000) and Carnival (8,500). The prices just weren't in comparison to Carnival. There are 7 of us, 4 adults and 3 kids. We want balconies. I actually booked parents in aft wrap balcony for that price.

The ports look basically the same. We have to do round trip due to price of flights. So what exactly makes Carnival so bad in Alaska? The four city towns are the same. It does Tracy Arm instead of Glacier Bay. I understand it might not be the elite Alaskan cruise, but I'm curious now as to why we will come away feeling like we didn't see Alaska. Advice?

If Carnival is offering the same itinerary, you'll be happy. The year I cruised, the Carnival cruises only went to 2 ports, while Princess did 4. I prefer Carnival, but had to choose Princess due to the itinerary. I haven't looked at future Alaskan cruises since my one time was wonderful. Have a fabulous cruise.:D

  4. Yes, they stopped serving lunch in the MDR and now just do brunch on sea days. However, I feel the salad bar on the Lido deck is quite good. There is a huge variety of veggies, fruits, meats and cheeses available. I'm sure you could find something you liked. Of course, it's not the same as being served, but the salad is yummy nevertheless.

  5. I agree, it depends on what category and ship you are looking at. The prices fluctuate, depending on the demand. Overall, I believe I'm paying close to the same (or even a little less) than I have for the last 3 years. Just keep looking and I'm sure you'll find a rate that pleases you.:D

  6. I believe they serve a purpose too. I love the small ships. Would I want 7 nights on one? No. But they are great getaways at a good price, and service is usually good.

I love the smaller ships as well. For a 5 night get away, they are GREAT! I really believe the staff and crew work harder to keep their guests happy. I've never had bad food or bad service on one of the smaller ships.:D

  7. I love, love, love Carnival, but chose Princess for my Alaskan cruise. It meant having an inside cabin instead of a balcony, but I ended up loving it since I'm a person who needs darkness to sleep. For a celebration of an anniversary and high school graduation, I'd definitely use a different cruise line for Alaska. Their itineraries are far superior.:D

  8. We are less than a month away from our cruise and my son got a job and and can't go. Is it possible to have the name changed to a friend?

    What would the charges be?

It really depends on what rate you booked. Generally, a name change can occur for $50, but they may try to hit you with additional charges if the cost of the cruise has gone up or the person traveling doesn't qualify for the rate the cabin is booked. Best thing is to call Carnival and ask.

As the other posted said, I'd check with his employment before doing anything. Some places are very good about giving unpaid time off for family vacations.

  9. The aft balconies are wonderful. If you don't like lots of sun, they may not be for you. There is very little shade back there. But, to sit and watch the wake following the ship, with lots of room to spread out, seems well worth it to me. Some people have complained there was soot, from the diesel smoke, on their furniture in the mornings, but I never had that problem. I really think the location is great. Whatever you decide, have a fabulous cruise.:D

  10. Ummmmmm....... Actually there is an outdoor pool table on the Magic.

Very cool. I'll have to book a cruise to check it out. I really enjoy pool so I'm surprised I've never come across a table in the past. So many ships....so little time.....:(

  11. I seriously doubt Carnival will move you. In all of my cruises, I've only been moved (without prior notice) one time. I was in an inside cabin for a girls cruise, and we found out we'd been moved to a mini suite. No complain from us at all. We never did figure out why we got moved, but we enjoyed the cabin to the fullest. I haven't ever heard of anyone being moved on a back to back cruise when they had booked the same cabin for both legs of the trip. I hope you have a fabulous cruise.:D

  12. In San Juan, there is a free trolly you can ride and get on and off as you please. If that doesn't suit you, you could grab a cab to go see the forts and then do a little shopping on the way back. The beach there isn't the best so I'd recommend sight seeing of some kind. If you've ridden the Segways before, you'd probably enjoy it. If not, just know some people can't seem to get the hang of it and everyone goes together on the tour. I felt fairly comfortable after two or three minutes, but I've seen some who never really master it.:(

  13. I booked guaranteed cabins for my back to back and was assigned to cabins on the opposite ends of the ship. I called to see if there was a cabin I could be moved to that would be the same for both cruises. There were none left in my classification and it would have cost more to move 'up' to a cabin that remained the same. So, we just sailed the first cruise all the way forward and the second all the way aft. Our room steward was wonderful, helping us pack and moving all our things. I went and found him after returning to the ship to find all our belongings neatly placed in new cabin and gave him a big tip. He was great. If I do another back to back, I'll probably try to stay in the same cabin. But, we have no regrets about changing cabins.

  14. Sounds like you will have a fabulous family vacation. I'd suggest bringing a power strip as well. If kids have games, camera's, etc. to charge, there is only one plug in the cabin. Drive carefully and have a fabulous cruise!:D
