  1. There was Prime Rib on the Juneau night, but we ended up at the buffet that night (got back onboard from our shore excursions after 8 and didn't feel like rushing to clean up for MDR). In hindsight, we should have rushed as I didn't really find anything appealing at Horizon Court that night.

Thank you so much for posting all these menus!!!!! When you came back from Juno and you went to the Horizon Court by any chance, did you notice if they had crab legs? I see they had them in the dining room and I was hoping that being the buffet as well.

    Thank you again!

  2.

A "tour" of Creek St. ? Frankly, this is a simply do it yourself walk. Can't imagine any "tour" for this. Easy to add a stop at Dolly's House and ride up on the Funicular (if running) and down the Married Man's Trail, (or round trip the trail) A look at the Fox lodge and beautiful Wallace Totems out back is well worth the time.

Let me rephrase that, we want to get out of the city a bit and look for bears, eagles and other wildlife.

We also hope to see Totem poles, Creek street and other local spots.

This is my third trip to Ketchikan, my first time I did a float plane over the Fjord's and the second time mostly wandering around. Went to the totem heritage center and the lumber jack show.

This time I am traveling with family and friends that have never been there. And also have mobility issues, I realize that Creek street is within walking distance of the dock however one of our parties is having a very difficult time walking and is not quite at the point of a wheelchair.

We are doing a float plane ride in Juneau so we did not want to repeat that.

I was doing my best to find what appears to be a nice tour that would be easy for somebody with mobility issues that would only have to get in and out of a vehicle a few times yet give them an opportunity to have a nice overview of the city and the potential for wildlife viewing.

I am, of course open to any and all suggestions and appreciate any input!

  3. We toured with Rich May 20, 2018. The tour was good, he had a lot of good information. We saw eagles, but no bears. He tried to go to the place with bears when there were not many people around, so made a good effort.. He drove around the town, showing us the new subdivision, new school & library, and industrial area. If you are not interested in this part, I'm sure he can skip it. The only thing we ran out of time for was to go into the Totem park (an extra charge). All in all, I think you can not go wrong with Rich.[/quote

Thank you so much for your response, I am glad you had a good tour, I am much more interested in seeing Creek street, then I am and seeing subdivisions and libraries and schools.. I've been in some contact with him off and on over the last few months so a couple of days before the tour I will let him know the things were interested in seeing.. Glad you had a great time and thank you for the response!

  4. Skagway was an excellent visit. We did the Haines wildlife/river excursion. We saw eagles, bears and a moose with her calf’s.

If you look closely, in the tree to the right there is a black bear. This poor guy was certainly uncomfortable in his perch as he waited for momma bear to leave.

Wow, thats a great picture. It looks like a really fun excursion.!

  5. There is no 24 hour advance check in. They can check in any time from 75 days in advance and print their boarding passes and luggage tags.

The only thing they need to tell the Uber driver is which ship they are on.

When you say "one roller bag' date='" is this a carry on size bag or a bag that they will check in for delivery to their cabin? If a check in sized bag, they will be met at the curb and check it in on arrival at the pier. If a carry on bag, they will keep it with them throughout the process. Security is just like at an airport.--bag on the scanner, you walk thru the metal detector.

Once they are thru security, there are signs directing them to the check in counters. They will present their boarding pass and their passports or other travel documents and will be issued their cruise cards. Depending on the time and the status of boarding, they will either be directed to the gangway to board the ship or to a waiting area to sit and wait until it is time to board. They will be told whether cabins are ready or what time they are expected to be ready. Don't believe this. We were told they would not be ready till 1 or 1:30, but we went to our cabin to see if we could drop our carry ons. The cabin was totally ready for us.

FWIW, it took us less than 15 minutes from drop off at the curb till we were on the ship.[/quote']

I've been on these boards a lot the last few months preparing for my third Alaska cruise, I've read many of your posts and may I just say how kind you always are and detailed in your answers to everyone!! It is wonderful to read your posts! Thank youl

I personally can't thank you enough for posting pictures of the menus and pictures of the patters! I've probably been driving everybody crazy by asking for these, and Anthony was super nice to post his patters on the princess board. For his cruise a few weeks ago, however, a few things have changed since then you have a different captain now on the ruby. , The show times have changed. To 7 PM and 9 PM and they were earlier before. And I'm noticing the trident grill, the pizzeria are all closing an hour earlier at 9 PM instead of 10 PM.. I'm traveling on her and just a couple of weeks and I'm bringing along family and friends that have never cruised and have never been to Alaska and I've been planning the whole trip . These updated menus and patters are exactly what I needed to plan our evening and crown grill and all the shows.! Thank you thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.!!!!!!

And I sincerely hope you are having a fabulous time! :)

  7. Insurance on Mondays and Tuesdays to let for the first part of the summer, anyway, the train hasn't been available to book on your own. It is only been available through chilkot or your cruise line. Ive been in contact with the train company and they said that they are basically being chartered out for those days.

  8. In over 20 cruises on Princess we have never had an issue determining where to exit the ship. It is announced over the PA system once disembarkation is ready to commence. If you miss the announcement any of the crew in the Piazza will be able to tell you which deck to exit from. On a 31 day cruise in 2016/2017 I was using a cane when touring and again on a 25 day cruise last fall sailing just 3 months after hip replacements (both hips) surgery. The crew couldn't have been more helpful on both cruises. I hope all goes well for your friend or family member and don't hesitate to ask questions or for simple assistance if necessary.

Thank you very much, I appreciate your help and everyone else's suggestions and comments.!!

    Red:cool:

  9. Either Anthony wasn't on a Princess ship or he may be on heavy drugs - or overindulged the beverage package. There are always announcements as to the disembarkation location and then there are also always signs in the hallways near the stairwells and elevators. It would be pretty difficult to not be able to figure out where to disembark.

I can understand why remarks of that sort might make you concerned about getting off in ports with a mobility impaired person but I really don't think it will be an issue. Princess makes it very clear where to go. Relax and enjoy your cruise. I wish I was cruising soon but don't have another booked until November. (My wife reserves the summer months for our land trips and I have to say she does a fantastic job of figuring them out.)

Hi Thrak, Anthony actually was on the first Ruby Princess cruise to Alaska a few weeks ago, those were more my interpretation of his words ,than his words. He was just stating that they were very disorganized and things weren't very clear on where to leave the ship at port. He was extremely kind to post all the patters that I was looking for someone to post and answered many questions everyone had.:)

  10. It was usually the Port side and decks 4, 5, or 6. They announce overhead when arrive in port where to disembark and on what floors. There were usually two exits to get off and get back on. It does get a bit chaotic as the lines build up very fast and people get confused where to go and with people cutting and all that good stuff. In your case I might recommend waiting for the initial rush to get off and you should have no problem exiting with ease.

We didn't see a whale until the last day sailing to Victoria, though many people saw them in Glacier Bay. I saw bear briefly in Ketchikan on our excursion but it ran quickly into the woods. It was a great trip and I'm sure you will have an amazing time also!

    Thank you!

  11. Do you remember what night Italian was in the MDR?

Also, when you arrived in port, do you remember what areas of the ship they opened to get off?

I ask this because a recent cruiser. Anthony stated that it was very much in disarray and nobody knew where people were allowed to get off the ship. and I'm traveling with a mobility limited guest.

Thank you and hope you had a fantastic trip.!!!

And did you see any whales or bears?

  12. My DW and I are at the Chicago airport waiting for our Alaskan airlines flight heading to Seattle. I’ll keep you posted as we progress along.

This is our first cruise and we are really looking forward to it. I didn’t get the internet package but counting on good service from AT&T while in ports so I’ll provided updates while where and when I can.

Congratulations on your first cruise! You picked a fantastic 1 to be your first !! Alaska is incredibly beautiful and the Ruby Princess is a very nice ship. I hope you have lots of fun things planned for shore excursions!

If you dine in the main dining room during the evenings, if at all possible, could you take some photos of the menus each night and post them upon your return? I'm cruising. 2 weeks after you are.! Thank you and have a great time here, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.!:)

  13. I gave two of them to a table mate on our October cruise. It was 28 days and she used them up. :) We had booked that cruise and the one after with the Sip and Sail and I figured if we wanted a coffee card on a cruise after those two we could just buy a new one so I gave mine away. They were both almost completely "unpunched". The person I gave them to was pretty pleased. :)

Wow Thrak i want to be on your cruise!

I've never purchased one before but thinking about it for my upcoming Alaska Ruby cruise in 3 weeks!:)

  14. Glacier Bay was the highlight for us and the main reason we took this cruise. Around 7am we were up at sky walkers which is where the rangers setup the tables and answer any Qs. Don’t forget your NPS passport book! They will have the official stamp and everyone receives the official NPS Park map for Glacier Bay the night before. They will post a big route map with time frames of where they will be so you can plan your day. I love taking photos with the park entrance signs and they even have some setup outside the lounge which worked just fine for me. I would plan on being in/out taking in views between 9a-2p. The promenade deck wasn’t crowded at all. Most were out on the top decks. We opted for first time not to have a balcony because it was cold however next time we will. The ship turns and there will be views on both sides however I think the port would be best because you can see great views coming in esp going by Johns Hopkins inlet area. We saw plenty of ice falling and lots of bald eagles flying around. A couple dolphins or something in the water but things happen so fast. Keep in mind that if you want coffee or anything to go with lid that you need to bring your own cup. All paper products are removed that day incl the wooden stirrers. Your basically limited to the small white plastic cups in the buffet.

Anthony thank you so very very much for all this work you went to!!!

This sure helps to plan everything!

Dining room and shows are all very early!

By any chance did you go the seafood buffet on the Glacier bay day? If so were there crab legs or lobster?

    Thank you again!!😀much
