  1. Haven't been on the Dawn, but have been on smaller NCL ships & preferred them to the recent Breakaway we just got off of. BA was too crowded and too big for us. So personally I would go with the Dawn.

I agree 100%. I haven't been on the Dawn either but prefer the Gem over Breakaway any day. Just off the Breakaway two weeks ago and would not go again. That's just my opinion though.

  2. Thanks for confirming that I'm not losing my mind! Always a concern with me...

Sounds crazy that the situation went so wrong just in the time between 8:15 and 8:30 right?!?!?! I definitely think the problem was created by NCL and I can't figure out for the life of me how they let it happen. How did they not realize they never made any announcements?

The Haven self-assist was supposed to be able to get off starting at 7:45 and it ended up we couldn't start leaving until after 8:30. It was very slow getting off too. Last year on the Gem we were off so early and very easy. Not sure what the problem was.

  3. Just returned also and agree with everything you said. I found the concierge to be dismissive also. His assistant (I can't remember his name) was great. I would go to him if I needed anything. The Haven is great and I loved the restaurant. I heard the same thing about the roof above the pool. It was unfortunate because there were a couple days that were so warm I would have enjoyed that. I was just grateful we had the Haven to retreat too. That ship is too big and too crowded for my liking.

  4. We sailed on the Breakaway the week before you all. Got off on April 3rd. We had a good cruise, but not great. Much prefer the Gem, smaller is sometimes better. Way too many people packed into the Breakaway ship. We would probably go for a smaller ship next time, doubt we would do the Breakaway again.

I agree 100% Gem is much nicer. I had booked the Breakaway for October but have changed my mind. All I can say is I was grateful for the Haven!

  5. Suze, we missed the meet and greet so I'm sorry I never met up with anyone. I agree with you. This was our 5th cruise with NCL and my least favorite although my husband and I too had a great time. We stayed in the Haven which is amazing. The ship was too crowded, I found some of the staff downright rude which I have never seen before. We had no problem getting off because we did the self assist and haven was out first. We sailed the gem last year and we love that ship. Maybe the breakaway is just too big for our liking, I'm not sure. Glad you had a good time.

  6. My family and I have been on the Gem twice and we love that ship. I'm sailing on the Breakaway next week and it was a real toss up between trying a new ship or going with the one we love. We like the Gem as it was a perfect size, not too big, not too small. Stayed with friends in the Garden Villa once and talk about gorgeous!!!!! Of course that was a once in a lifetime deal. Good luck in deciding. :):):)

  7. My husband is a huge womans basketball fan (UCONN specifically) and is wondering if there will be anywhere on the ship to see the Final Four and Championship games. TIA

They will show the games onboard but no worries even if you can't watch it's UCONN ALL THE WAY!!!!! No one will even come close. Go Huskies [emoji459][emoji459][emoji459][emoji459][emoji459]

  8. @Medtech Thank you for the kind reply. It's appreciated.

I have been reading the forum for almost two weeks at this point, and enquired about the inside cabin upsell because most other threads regarding upsell seams to be about the Haven. I haven't called NCL yet, so no harm on my part. I'll probably just call once a week outside of sailing.

If someone doesn't like a thread, isn't it an option to just keep scrolling? ;)

You are correct and I agree. It wasn't like they had no idea what the topic was about. Good luck and I hope you get the upsell.

  9. thanks ,we will. We were out for some st paddy day fun and ran into a few people from the next town north of us. They are also going with a group of 25 families, made some new friends. The shenanigans have begun! !!!

Now that sounds like alot of fun!!!

  10. That's a little much. That can't possibly be true. If it is, remind me not to sail on Royal Caribbean.

I hate chair hogs just as much as the next person, but if I leave my chair for 10 or 15 minutes to get a drink/use the restroom/cool off in the pool/etc, I should be able to come back to it.

Anyway, I agree with adding coffee/water/etc to the UBP, especially with the price increase. I still enjoy the package regardless.

I agree with you, it was a little much. My family and I actually made jokes about it.

  11. I started replying with this in another thread, and I figured this deserved it's own thread.

Since I know NCL actively reads these threads (I had a wine vending machine dispute with them resolved by posting my story here), I figured why not start a constructive thread detailing some little things that NCL can do that would help the consumer experience.

I'm going to try to post things that are realistic. I hope this doesn't turn into a rant-fest or get littered with things like - Cagney's should be free or cruises should be cheaper, etc...

    Here's a few of mine:

    - Include coffee/espresso drinks in the UBP. The price has gone up, what $30 in the last two years? For the love of god, please give me a good coffee option on board. Celebrity does this.

    - Open up some of the specialty restaurants for lunch. On the winter cruises out of the NE, there's not much to do on the outdoor decks for 3 or 4 of the 7 days. Why not give people more options indoors?

    - Offer a teen card, allowing for unlimited video games, rock climbing & soda. Its another mechanism to keep young kids in a controlled environment and out of trouble

    - Make the games a little more friendly to consumers (deal or no deal & bingo are a house always wins proposition)

    - Have someone enforce the no holding chairs policy. In cities that only have something like 30 min or 1 hour parking, they chalk your tire and the road. If they come back and youre chalked, you get a ticket. Find a way to tag chairs or something similar & remove contents after x amount of time

    - Include the Wine Vending machines in the UBP

What are some of your tips? Who knows... maybe they'll listen!

These are perfect! I too would add that the holding chairs by the pool is crazy. I know on the RCCL cruises I have been on, they had people walking around with vests on that said "pool patrol" and were constantly taking items off chairs so other people could have the chair. If you weren't physically in your chair at all times, it was up for grabs.

  12. I don't think I would wait in this case. You are already going to be getting close to what they could offer you and only 13 days out you run the risk of them just giving those cabins away as upgrades if they feel they won't sell out.

I'm all for upsells, and got one myself, but waiting much longer for a balcony I would think, is risky considering the minimal gain of waiting.

    I agree 100%.

  13. As far as I am concerned, any chair that only has towels on it to save it, is up for grabs. Sometimes I just watch the chairs for a few minutes just to see if someone ran to the bathroom quickly. If they aren't back in a few minutes, I'll just move the towels to the ground and use the chair.

    I like your style!:):):)
