  1. The cabin issue that you have mentioned, along with the Chops incident, is completely unacceptable. No wonder you are furious and no, nobody should be made that upset from something that should have been relatively easy to resolve and with minimal stress.

I did the Haiti boat tour in May of this year and can second you on it - fantastic trip, lovely guides and a brilliant way to see the coast. The island that you pull up alongside looks idyllic doesn't it?! Just what you would imagine from a deserted tropical island! I was almost tempted to jump ship and stay there!

  2. Can the beds on oasis be separated do you know?

On the pictures the beds look rounded at the bottom as if they cannot be split?

    Hi

The beds can absolutely be separated. I have to say that preferences usually do not make it to your stateroom attendant before they make up the room for your arrival. However, when they come round to introduce themselves, just let them know that you want the beds separated and they will usually get that done immediately or whilst you are out to dinner.

    Hope this helps

PS. You said about this being your last question... Don't be silly, ask away, most people do and it is what we are all here for - to help and chat and ask ourselves!

  3. I may be mistaken but I think the ships shops open up in the evening in Nassau, I know the casino is open.

You may well be correct but based on my experience, they haven't been open. I have been to Nassau twice and they haven't been open whilst in port and usually opened up after we sailed.

  4. Hi :),

Does anybody know the best place to buy watches in Nassau, and does anybody know if the shops on the ship and on the islands are open on Christmas?

    Thanks :)

The shopping in Nassau isn't as good as other islands in my opinion. It also really depends on what brand you are interested in. John Bull is the official Rolex retailer of the Bahamas and they also stock other watches. Little Switzerland has a large range of Swiss watches and also Breitling, TAG Heuer, Omega, Citizen, Michael Kors...

Sorry I cannot really help with opening hours. On board shops are not open when in port but should be open during other specified hours when at sea, even on Christmas.

    Hope this helps a little

  5. I am interested in booking the Allure in late August. Can anyone tell me what the weather is like sailing out of Fort Lauderdale and in the Caribbean during that time of year?

I was on the 18th August sailing on Allure this year. I was very nervous due to the prediction of a particularly bad hurricane season and there has barely been anything in comparison to previous years. I had near perfect weather the whole week but like most others have said - very hot and very humid.. very very humid!

Unfortunately, you can never tell what the weather will do regardless of what time of year you go.

I hope that whenever you choose to go you have a brilliant time!

  6. Thanks very much Jo sounds very much like it's hit and miss!

Was hoping to get to the hotel in Fort L and go out for some food but it may be room service and straight to bed to shake off the jet lag!

Where are you staying? Yes I have to say by the time you have got through and out, with possible multiple stop offs, I would strongly suggest checking in, chilling out, order some food and get some rest :)

  7. Hi

I have done 3 trips into MIA in the last year and it really does vary. I have flown Virgin each time. The first time, no real issues, was under an hour. Unfortunately after this the issues with Immigration cut backs kicked in and my next trip took 3 hours from landing to reaching my transfer  The guy who was meeting me said things had been really bad and he was surprised I had been so quick!! The 3rd time I had prepared myself for a long wait. I had landed at the same time and was constantly reaching the next corner expecting to hit the back of the queue... I was straight into the main hall and joined the back of a queue with 5 people in front of me - was similar at all 12 open lanes. By the time I was being checked 15 minutes later, 2 other planes had arrived and circa 600 people were in the queue....

Fingers crossed for a smooth transition for you. You should be landing after the majority of other long hauls if they have landed on time and plenty of officials are on, you will hopefully be ok.

Just know they do everything to get people through as quickly as possible.

  8. I have a trial size of detergent I bring and do the items that I don't want the ship laundry to do...hang in the bathroom and sometimes out on the balcony. Now when we were on the allure and the oasis i don't think there were drying lines in the showers. Not sure why I am remembering this...seems to me we were sitting out on the balcony in the bahamas with clothes hooked no the backs of our chairs...

With regards to the drying lines, it depends what stateroom you were in. Some rooms have them and some don't. On Allure, I have had a GS which did and an Oceanview (F) which didn't.

  9. A statement was made that the clothes are all tossed in a machine, this doesn't sound right, how would they know whose socks are whose or blouses, they must use smaller machines for the passengers loads.

My understanding is that your items are in a bag on some kind along with a lot of other bags of peoples clothes in a large industrial size machine. I may of course be incorrect but this is ny understanding of the arrangements on Allure.

  10. I have only ever embarked and disembarked at Fort Lauderdale but I absolutely love it. I love the whole area, the ability to sail through the port on the water taxi along the intracoastal waterway and the people I have met there - all lovely!

I live an hour away from Southampton which is where I will be sailing from next year. I love Southampton for the shopping and also because it is a fantastic spot for ship spotting and watching sailaways!

  11. There have been posts trying to discourage the rubber band trick because it defeats the safety of the "dead man switch" on the device. I plan to continue using my rubber band for the following reasons:

    1. I have never seen any label sign or anything else on the device or in the cabin requesting or instructing me not to.

    2. They are fine with me bringing my own - much more powerful - machine which has no such device.

    3. The chance of anyone walking off and leaving the dryer runnig [considering the noise it makes and the air it blows] have got to be non-existent.

I hear duct tape works also.

I completely agree with you. If anyone could walk off and not realise it is still going, they probably wouldn't be using it in the first place!

These tips will work well for my mum who has RA and therefore finds holding down buttons like this hard and usually takes her own with her.

  12. I have done this return trip 3 times now.

The first time we had arranged transfers through our TA. We had to call the company on arrival and someone came to meet us. We had a van pick us up and take us to our Fort Lauderdale hotel. It was the same on our return to MIA. Once we were out, we called and someone came into the port to pick us up.

The second time I booked a private transfer. Came out into arrivals and found a lovely guy with my name on a board. He took my suitcase and off we went. It was nice to be just me as it was my first time there by myself. Was exactly the same on the return.

The 3rd time I pre-booked transfers with SuperShuttle. After going through Arrivals you go out onto the pavement and give them your booking details. You then wait for the next van going in your direction - I only waited 5 minutes. We then had other pick-ups at other arrival points round MIA and then a couple of drops on the way to Fort Lauderdale. Was similar on the return from the port too.

    Hope this helps.

    Jo :)
