Just noticed that Royal added this to the FAQ’s.  Great move just wish that they had done this sooner.

    27. Can Future Cruise Credits be used to pay for the deposit owed on my client’s reservation?

NEW! Yes - as long as the value of the Future Cruise Credit covers the full deposit amount, no additional funds will be oweduntilFinalPayment,atwhichtimeanycruisefarebalanceandtaxes/feeswillberequired. IfthevalueoftheFCC does not cover the full deposit amount, additional funds will be required to meet the total deposit needs and, thereafter, the remaining balance due at Final Payment.

I must be reading this post wrong.. I called RCI last night to book a new cruise for next year. My deposit  was $900. so I  said I understand I can use my FCC from a canceled cruise where my NFD was $900.00 . The agent said I am sorry you cannot use a FCC for deposit on a new cruise.  So did I get this wrong. I was disappointed. I am not going to put another $900.out on another cruise at this point .

    Thoughts please..

If you go to health protocol section on rcl website they have removed the dr note requirement as well as no sail for those with underlying medical issues; however, it does state they are developing along with government medical authorities and the CLIA a new process.  Not exact words here best to read on their website.  I was not able to copy the paragraph for whatever reason.

Well that is great... I was really worried about never sailing again . The only health problem  my husband and I  have is bring over 70. We have a lot of trips  on our bucket list  and a lot of money tied up on future cruises. Thanks for posting. Maybe I'll get a good nights sleep tonight.

They also canceled NE cruises way before 30 days that started in Montreal.  I was booked on the 6/7 Empress sailing and received notification about 4 weeks ago and was offered a full refund or a 125% FCC>

Are you still posting about cruises before Sept. 1 We leave from Montreal in Sept. but have not heard anything about cancellations.

  4. We will not be cruising in Sept. Our cruise will be in Canada for a week. We don't know if the borders  or  ports will be  open or if

the tour companies are a go. Then to Bar Harbor..NP is closed . will they be open by then??  Maybe... On to Boston , not good.  A few days later we disembark in NY. Don't want to be there in the next year or two. We have a month before final payment..  can't take the chance RCL will not sail.  So NO we will not sail this year..

We can all hope that a virus and cure will be available by end of 2020 and then we can all use our fcc's in 2021 as I think once the CLIA feels confident the virus is no longer a threat they will lift the requirement for the doctors note and other health restrictions for those under 70.    At least that is what I hope will happen.

For now, I still hold out hope that we can do our b2b for the Baltic and Norwegian fjords this August.

Stay positive and we will all get thru this.

I certainly hope you are correct. Whether or not my problems are solved positively I hope you are  able to complete your sailings in August and have a wonderful time. I  have heard the  Baltic cruise is the ultimate.

When a person needs minor surgery like cataract surgery, a doctor’s note is required. I don’t see how taking a cruise would be more of a risk than going under anesthesia. My complaint is not allowing passengers over 70 to get a refund instead of OBC due to this policy change. And I certainly don’t like transferring the credits to someone else.

    I wholeheartedly agree....

Right now I don't think the majority of people objecting to this has anything to do with a vacation being worth more than someone's life.  It has to do with Royal not wanting to refund our money for a cruise impacted by the required doctor's release.  Just give us a refund and most would be satisfied, but this crap that Royal is going to be generous and let us transfer the FCC to someone else is just plain BS.

    I AGREE !!!!

This form letter is just ridiculous.    Sad to say, but there are many deaths from covid 19 with people in various ages.   Alot of middle aged healthy men too.

This letter states for 70 and older only.     What about people younger than 70 with diabetes or other diseases?

Again, I am just going to remain hopeful that we have a vaccine for this virus in the very near future.

Or maybe we will all have to take the 15 minute antibody test (RapCov) before boarding cruise ship.

The vaccine will definitely be a lifesaver but it will not make a 71 year old any younger. So here is my problem... we have cruised successfully for many years. Now I am out $600  insurance and  $1,100 on deposits and can't do anything about it..

How do people know they need a note from their Dr. if they are over 70?  I heard some were refused boarding if they didn't have a note before they cancelled all the cruises.  Is your TA supposed to notify you once cruises start back up that they have to have a note?  The majority of cruisers don't read cruise critic.  How are they going to get notified?

I would be really upset if I got to the pier and told, "Oh, you don't have a note?  Sorry, you're not going on the cruise." 🍷

One person said their TA emailed them.

Over 70--When do you need note? At time of booking (which could be 18 months from sail date) final payment or day of boarding??? If booked and you can't go because you do not have note from Doc. do you get refund?

I am thinking at boarding , I believe I read that.  That's  my question, I am thinking there is no way we will get a refund.

Just received an RCCL email at 10 pm for all passengers 70 & over will not be allowed to board unless they have a form from their Dr. stating they are well enough to travel.  Good luck getting a Drs.appointment on such short notice.  I guess we'll be cancelling or maybe wait for them to cancel all their cruises.  Good Bye RCCL

If we booked before the dr, note was required do you think we will receive our  $900. non refundable deposit back?

If the note had been created before we booked we would not have not booked a cruise on RCCL or any ship requiring it.

I don't see how a FCC will help if they will not let us on the ship.

  12. Last February we bought tickets through RCCL.  We received a voucher which we had to take to the OTT office there at the dock. WE tried to get on a trolley between the ship and the office but was not able to . So at the office there was no line, well maybe one or two people. we received the sticker and we boarded a trolley . When we rode the loop we had to get off and board another trolley.  I think we bought our tickets for $27.00. this year they are $49.00 I think,  so on our cruise next month in Feb. I am not sure if we will do the OTT again.

  13. I'll thank you for your help even before I  ask questions so THANK YOU  for any help anyone can give. We will be arriving in Montreal by Amtrak then going to Quebec by bus.    We need to stay one night in Montreal before the bus ride and I guess it would be best to stay near the Amtrak station. I have the Amtrak address   but it really doesn't mean anything to me. Can you suggestion a motel convenient  to our needs??
