  1.     I do not know anything about Boston. We want to stay 2 or 3 days before our cruise. I would like to get a motel/hotel near public transportation so we could get to the HOHO. We did Uber the last trip .  Don't want to do that again. So being out of Boston would be ok. I look at motels and have no idea where they are.  Can anyone help with suggestions.

    Thanks.

For those of you who were unable to port in Bar Harbor, did your cruise go to a different port or did you just spend an extra day at sea?  Thanks all!

We had a sea day. SOOO disappointed.  But Safety first...  We are booked next year again , Bar Harbor has been taken off our itinerary. So sad but they have added  St.John.  So I guess that is better than another sea day and no extra port.

I still would love to go to Bar Harbor. Checked into renting a car out of Boston or flying into Banger. Way to expensive.

  3. When we were in Victoria  we went to tea at Point Ellice House. We toured the museum before tea. It was a beautiful spring day so they served tea on the lawn. The gardens were so  beautiful and  , right next to the  Gorge Waterway.   The Victoria Harbour Ferry & Water Taxi stops at Point Ellice House. There were four ladies. We loved the afternoon, so special.

  4.  We have gone to Alaska two times in May, no rain.

Once in late July-- August. It rained  10 out of the 14 days.  The islands were beautiful  with the clouds lifting after the rain..

I guess I forgot about the rain because  ,guess what, I booked again in the rainy season. Leaving next week.

Oh well, can hardly wait to get to Alaska, rain or not.

    Happy cruising everyone..

  5. I just can't imagine not wanting to leave the ship in any port any where. Alaska is the most beautiful state. We will be going on our fourth cruise to Alaska in Sept.   Sitka-- we went to the bear sanctuary

                                                                      Victoria-- harbor cruise

high tea on the grounds at Point Ellice House

Butchart Gardens- take the public bus.. maybe two blocks from the port

Anchorage- Portage Glacier Up close and Personal. they fish some of the floating ice out                                                                                            and let you touch it.

Kodiak has a great craft fair on days a ship is in port with all kind of things made in Alaska                                                   and if you have to there is a WM  with loads   of cheap souvenirs.

Homer take the HOHO bus. Go to the Islands and Oceans Visitors Center,,, its free , Great.   Go to                                                           Two Sisters Bakery YUM

If you go to Icy Straits Point  .. Go on a bear hunt  so much fun..  I hope this gives you some ideas ..

HAL land meals, with the exception of lunch on the bus to Denali are NOT included unless you purchase the $349 Meal Plan.

With the paid Meal Plan, all lunches on land are NOT included but all breakfasts and dinners are included.

You are correct..I saw the info. about the meals but didn't understand  it that way. I don't think it was very clear  and it  did not mention money..

Did you take this land /cruise tour?? We are not big eaters and do not want to eat at the hotels we will be at. Just wondering what you did about meals.. Thank you ever so much for answering this question. That would have been a blow thinking meals were paid for and finding out when we were there.

  7. We are on a HA cruise tour in Sept. I understand most meals are included. But some are not mostly the lunch meals.  You definitely  need to call your cruise line or your TA to get your cruise/tour specific info.

    Have Fun

  8. My husband uses one on cruises,  it is heavier than a cane but you can use it to sit instead of standing in aline. It really saved us and allowed us to take tours which would have been really hard without it. He also used it standing in line to get into the MD room.

We ordered it from Amazon, around $25.00 I think.

  9. I hate  to add to your choices but we went  on a bear hunt while in Icy Strait. There were six adults.. we had a ball. We did not       see  a bear but the guide tried so hard to find bears. We trailed by a creek and saw salmon( half eaten) fur on trees and  some tracks. We knew they had been there. So I think you will have a great adventure with any of your choices.

  10. We will be released from our Cruise/Land tour around 9am and we fly home at 11pm,  We have rented a car.... I would love suggestions on something to do during the day until the flight home. We will be in Fairbanks several days so we will be doing most tourist tours with our cruise package.  Any suggestions would be appreciated ,

  11. We are released from our cruise tour around. 9am and our flight home is 11pm.  Soooo looking for something to do and a place to leave luggage until check in.. hoping someone who has been in this position and can help with suggestions. Yes - while there's no downtown hotel that does not have at least one HOHO stop within a ~10min walk, the YWCA is one of the more convenient as it has two very close by (P16 & P17 on the Park loop) within <300 yards (Robson & Homer, Cambie & Georgia) and the nearest City Loop stop is just the other side of BC Place stadium (map - if you didn't have to circle the stadium it would be 5mins walk!)

If you compare the stop locations on the HOHO live map here with a Google map of the city you'll be much better-prepared for your visit - Google does have all of our transit schedules and bike routes, plus accurate walk times & routes after they sent dudes wearing cameras along the various pedestrian-only pathways a couple of years back so it really is your one-stop-shop for figuring out where anything in is renlation to anything else here. You can even follow along in 'Streetview' on walk/bike lanes as well as roads - and no need for data as the free city WiFi network should keep you connected on any device while you're in town (connect to #VanWiFi).

Thank you so much.. You are a jewel. Great info...
