  1. We just got off the Magic on Sunday. The Past Guest Party was held during the afternoon on Day 6, which was a sea day. We each received an invitation a couple of days before. There were free drinks (Funship Special, Red Frog beer, and some other fruity type drinks) hors d'oeuvres, introduction of the Captain and senior staff, and recognition of Diamond members onboard. One fun thing they did was a slide show of all of the past and present Carnival ships. Everyone cheered when a ship they had sailed on came on the screen.

  2. While they don't formally offer any type of religious services, if there is a priest or other clergy member onboard and they want to conduct a service, the ship will accommodate them. We have attended mass on both Carnival and Royal, but that was the exception, rather than the rule.

  3. We cruised the Sunshine in August, 2014. The ship was more crowded than any we've been on, and we always cruise summer, spring break and New Year's. I was disappointed that the spa didn't have the Thalassotherapy pool, the only pool (besides Serenity) is teeny-tiny for so many people, and the Red Frog Pub didn't have the yummy bar food. That being said, it was still a great cruise overall. I would sail the Sunshine again, once we can cruise at other times of the year, when it might not be so crowded.

  4. We do not get insurance. It is a risk I am willing to take. We have been on eight cruises so far without insurance. We also take certain precautions - ie, we know we don't want to replace our bags, so we never check them on an airplane or leave them outside our door. We are young, so medical problems, although possible, are unlikely.

Being young and having no medical problems, while wonderful, is no guarantee that you will not require medical assistance while on a cruise. On our last two cruises, a 17 year old boy broke his leg while on an excursion, required hospitalization and surgery, so his parents packed up and got off the ship at that port. The other instance was a 32 year old woman with appendicitis. An ambulance met the ship when it docked, and her husband followed the gurney off the ship rolling their suitcases. Accidents do happen, no matter what your age.

  5. I have also noticed that it is impossible to book a cabin on deck 10 (where I want) I have exhausted all the options trying to get to it. :s

I either get an error message or the page just flips up and goes blank.

It is the same on both UK and US sites...anyone else had this?

Yes, I did as well, from Friday afternoon on. Should have given up and called Carnival, but I didn't and just booked a balcony on Deck 9. Shortly after that, Deck 10 came up as sold out. Glad I booked when I did, as I see balcony prices rose about $400pp by Saturday afternoon! This is our first TA and understand it's a new ship and all, but am astounded at how quickly it's selling out.

  6. You know there are going to be complaints about people crashing the Havana courtyards and hammocks. I can't wait to read about it!! OTOH, now, a chain and padlock will become suggested carry on hardware to lock your courtyard gate. ;)

I was wondering the same thing. Also, wonder how they will prevent regular guests from entering the Havana Pool area from the Havana Bar during the day. And when the pool area is opened to the public at night, what prevents anyone from walking around that little wall thing and strolling past your Havana hacienda? I don't want to keep my curtains drawn all the time! While I love the look, I probably won't book one for this reason and the fact that your 'balcony' is so far from the water with the walkway in front.

  7. While I can't answer your question about broken steam rooms, we opted to not purchase a spa cabin or the spa passes on our recent cruise. The Sunshine doesn't have the Thalossotherapy mineral pool, so didn't think the price was worth it. We loved the pool on the Breeze!

  8. 3rd option: Go through priceline for 12/4/15 and book hotel. Book return flight while we on cruise.. heard many cruisers do that.:confused:

Just noticed your 3rd option - booking return flight while on cruise? Never heard of that, and don't know why you would wait until the last minute to book your flight home. Unless you think you can get some smoking deal through Priceline, and have a few extra days and extra $$ in case that plan falls through.

  9. One of the reasons we went to anytime dining was that in our case, there seemed to be no rhyme or reason why we were seated with the others at our tables. This was the case on both Carnival and Royal Caribbean. We are a 'middle' aged couple traveling alone. Every time we were seated with families with children ranging in age from 3 to 11. Love kids, have some of our own, but did not enjoy having everything from tears to French fries on the floor, to a know-it-all young man who monopolized the table conversation to the delight of his mother. As soon as anytime dining became available, we jumped on it. Thankfully, there are plenty of other places to get to know our fellow passengers.

  10. We were also on the New Year's cruise, and generally had a great time. We were disappointed there was no celebration on the pool deck. Maybe that will change once they install the big screen to broadcast the countdown from Times Square. It was crazy crowded on the Promenade.

The lobster on the New Year's Eve menu was tasty, but tiny! Literally 1/2 of a small lobster tail each. Needless to say, we ordered a second plate!

Show times were usually 7 & 9 pm. We had My Time Dining, and had no trouble making the second show. Live music started around 9:45 nightly in various venues.

Boy, you weren't kidding when you said disembarkation was a nightmare! They have got to improve the flow of traffic to the CBP desks. You weren't sure if you were in a proper line or not, and there was no one to ask. We stood in what we thought was a line for about 10 minutes, and gave up and went to the porter line. Well worth the tip, once we moved, we were out the door in 15 minutes, as opposed to at least an hour or more by my reckoning if we would have stayed where we were.

  11. I was wondering the same thing. Hoping someone answers you.

I emailed Carnival Shore Excursions, and additional guests can be added for $40.99 per person. Children 2 and under are no charge, and aren't included in a final count. I didn't ask if there was a maximum overall you could add, since I only needed to find out about adding 2 more.

  12. We are a group of 4 adults and 2 children, and are looking at renting a cabaña during our stop at Mahogany Bay. Are children counted as part of the maximum 4 allowed, or would we be okay with just 1 cabaña?

  13. This is the first time we will be traveling in multiple cabins. I understand that we can switch people around or get access to kids cabins by going to Guest Services once we board. Will they reissue one card that will work for multiple cabins, or do you have to keep track of multiple cards? Thanks in advance.
