  1. Hi All,

New to princess, just curious where the free drink opportunities are :) I noticed on the other freebee thread started about a bar tending competition, and also the classic art auction, but curious what other opportunities are out there.

  2. If you do receive an upsell notice and are at all interested, call the number given ASAP. It is likely that you will be leaving a voice mail message and you will be called back in the order those messages were made.

Does it usually happen after you have fully paid?

  3. To be honest, what the menus will be on our upcoming cruise on the Royal isn't on my mind. I've always found something I like.

I’m not a picky eater at all, actually the opposite- I struggle to pick which one to order :)

  4. Happy Canada Day to our northern brothers. Years ago I had to do some work in Detroit and was there one time when they held the joint celebration of Canada and the USA. I watched the fireworks from Windsor which I usually went to for dinner.

PS: I don't suppose you Canadians would consider trading your PM for our white house occupant?;p

    President Twitter? NO thanks :)

  5. Yes--we call it an "upsell." If you used a TA' date=' the offer will go to your TA who will then need to relay it to you.

If you receive a free upgrade, that will just show up as a different cabin number in your cruise personalizer.

BEWARE--what Princess considers an upgrade and what you consider an upgrade may be very different. Before accepting an offer, you'll want to look up the cabin on the deck plan and see if you can find any on line reports about it. There may be things you don't like or you may be able to do better by talking with Princess. For instance, if you get an upsell offer from an inside to an obstructed window, there are cabins where almost the entire window is obstructed and cabins where the obstruction is minor. And if there is more than one cabin in the category available, Princess will allow you to move to the one you want! Same for an upgrade...if they move you to a cabin right under the pool or above a nightclub, this may not be ideal. Even if it is a free upgrade, you can call them and see whether you can move back to your original cabin or to one you like better than the assignment![/quote']

Thank you! If I used a big name 3rd party's site, I'm guessing I won't get any upsells?

  6. We are booked on our first Princess cruise, Oct 19th, and I am just wondering if Princess sends emails out upgrade to better cabins at a cost? Last year we cruised on HAL, and we received various emails up to our cruise to do so if we wanted (we didn't as we wanted the 3 rooms in a row that we had) but I'm curious if I should watch for emails like this from Princess. When I look at the cruise, there are lots of rooms available (we are booked into an interior) but just curious if this is something Princess does?

  7. I live about 8 miles from Disneyland. I would not try to visit Disneyland and fly out the same day. If you are going to stay overnght this is very doable. You would need to make arrangements for your luggage, so maybe Super Shuttle can take you to your hotel room near Disneyland. Then drop off the luggage and head over. Be prepared for a LOT of people at Disneyland. That place is packed to the gills every day.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Lucky you! We are Disney fans so try to visit every couple of years :)

We aren’t concerned about luggage, we are only going on a 4 day cruise, so will pack carry ons, and Disney has large lockers we can store them in (we’ve used them)

Agree with you on the crowds, we’ve def seen an increase in numbers, we were just there in May and the crowds were BIG.

How long do you think it will take for us to self carry off the ship and be at Disneyland? What t8me do you think we could get there?

  8. A couple of years ago we visited San Pedro as a port/day stop and decided to visit Disneyland. I googled Car Services for Disneyland and found a company called "Affordable Car Service" (Or something like that). They charged us $170 USD for transport from the ship, to Disneyland and return to the ship. We put the call out on our roll call and split the fare with another couple.

The drive to Disneyland was just over 40 minutes - when I was planning this I got tons of comments about how bad the traffic would be and I better have a back-up plan just in case... didn't need it at all. The return to the ship was also about 40 minutes. The driver took great advantage of HOV lanes.

There are also shuttle companies that will pick up from the San Pedro and drop off in Anaheim (Super Shuttle) and there is also Uber. Try googling and see what you find - going to Disneyland post cruise in definitely doable.

For your flight back, you may want to consider John Wayne Airport - a little closer that LAX and I believe Westjet still offers direct flights.

    Thanks for your reply :)

  9. Did a quick search, but didn't find the answers so wold like to ask a few Q's:

    1. Does Princess allow you to purchase a drink package part of the way through a cruise? Our cruise has the first day in port (which hubby and I plan to be off the ship most of the day) then two at sea days- we would probably purchase the drink package for him for the last two days if possible.

    2. Is drink service in the MDR good? We've found this a bit hit and miss on our cruises.

    3. Does Princess have events you can sign up for such as Wine/Beer/Whiskey tastings, Mixology classes?

    Thanks so much!

  10. We did TD at the beginning when that was the only choice, then went to ATD and now for the past several years are back doing TD. We have always had couples that were around our age give or take 20 years. We have not had any problems so far with our tablemates. I do believe that Princess tries to put pax together within reason. I would not be happy sharing a table with young kids for example. Whoever the OP gets placed with and it appears there is a problem, go immediately to the maitre'd and ask for another table.

elliair: that was a really funny response to the pax who asked personal questions and I enjoyed it. Actually I likely would have told them something outrageous as well.

Hubby and I are super outgoing and can get along with anyone, but I was honestly just curious what Princess did with Traditional Dining

  11. It’s random, hopefully.

We in America and in every other nation used to put people in groups based on perceived likenesses. :(

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right.

Wow :( I never meant to offend you, honestly if you read my question I was just asking about if they partner like parties, not saying I don’t want to sit with parties that aren’t alike

  12. on two of my four cruises we were with family groups, so had our own tables, then one cruise hubby and I did my time dining and had tables for just the two of us, and on our Disney cruise our family was matched up perfectly- just wondering if Princess does what Disney’s does at the traditional dining times and matches groups with alike parties...ie if we are a late 30’s couple, will we mor3 than likely get matched with other like couples?

  13. Exiting the ship early is not the issue, the traffic at LAX is the thing that will make you miss that plane to Canada.

We are actually thinking we might do the day Inn Disneyland :)

It’s just the short Vancouver to LA in Oct...

  14. Hi All,

Just booked our first Princess cruise, I am just wondering how quickly we can be off the ship in LA once it's docked- does Princess all you to "express carry off" first thing, or something along the lines of carrying off your own bags once the ship is clear?

  15. Yes I have had these cabins and found them to be not a problem. But not a 100% view, some of them your view is a lifeboat. It is not a good choice if you only want balcony cabins. I believe these cabins are best taken to upgrade yourself if you do not want to pay the full price of balcony cabin. My time in them was upgrading from inside cabin, so any view was a bonus.

When you were upgraded, did the room change in your booking at some point before the cruise?

  16. I was also going to suggest the link that Thrak posted...Renmar does a great service keeping it updated with pictures showing the obstruction.

For an inside, if you like the aft section of the ship, definitely our favorite (we choose there when they're available) is Aloha 737 through 744. Those cabins are for 2 only. The rest of the cabins in that section are for 3-4 people. The bunk beds are mounted on the wall and stick out at least 5 or 6 inches. If you want a queen bed configuration, you'll hit your head, shoulder or back depending on how tall you are every time you get in or out of bed. The stewards prefer the twin configuration for ease of making the bed.

The aft Aloha deck cabins are close to a "secret" door that leads out to the Terrace Pool (up a short flight of stairs). If you go up another slightly longer flight of stairs, you're at the Outrigger Bar and through the doors is the buffet. It's like having your own semi-private balcony.:D

    Update: I have booked 744!!
