We had that once on our balcony; it wasn't pretty but didn't interfere with balcony space as it was at the end. I might have felt differently had it been in the middle, but other than adjusting some shots to be sure we didn't capture it in pictures, it didn't bother us. We would have been sad to miss out on that Neptune wrap suite for the week.
Ic. We ended up booking the warp suite on deck 8 which may have its own issues (larger overhang... but may come in handy in raining Alaska). Anyways it's all first world problems right?
Enjoy the extra large balcony on deck 4!

Thank you. We've booked 4211.
We were originally booked for a transatlantic on a Celebrity ship sailing from Fort Lauderdale on 4/14. We're going to be there for a wedding and decided to add a cruise to the end of that trip. Wedding venue and date changed to the weekend before (6th) which left us scrambling for something that sailed on 4/7. That's how we found this cruise on HAL, which tbh, is better for us because all the ports are new. For the Celebrity TA we were booked for the first time in an aft cabin. Did a lot of research on that and so many people love those afts and we were excited to finally try it. Then I read about people not getting enough sun on TA's and you should book starboard (eastbound) to really enjoy your balcony. We were excited to find 4211 because it seems like the best of both worlds.
(sorry for the long post)
I believe on the side of the balcony there will be a somewhat large window washing "equipment." Doesn't bother some but bothered me enough not to book that particular room.

That would have been nice indeed. It was never offered to us. Our butler did very little for us and was not helpful IMO.
Its a perk to everyone PH or above but yes its unfortunate you were not informed/aware of it.

Actually, on O if you book the PH (Penthouse) category, you get a butler. (For what little use they are).
I found having the O butler serve you dinner in your room (PH is big enough to accommodate that) ordering any dish from any specialty restaurant was an amazing perk and worth the upgrade. To each their own.

Yes. We sat on our balcony and could hear everything that was being said. It was also broadcast on the TV, bow, and other indoor and outdoor spaces. We really enjoyed it.
Great to hear! Thank you.

Just got off Koningsdam last Saturday. Crowe's Nest seating was never available during the day during the entire cruise. When the speakers/Ranger was there, standing room was in short supply. My wife and sister were able to get seats one day by waiting around and pouncing when somebody left. I once saw a couple getting up to leave their seats. I immediately and politely stood directly behind one of the chairs and a woman stepped directly in front of me and planted her butt in the seat. It wasn't worth the confrontation.
When we did tracy arm fjord with celebrity the speaking naturalist is broadcasted all over the ship including balconies and on the TV which I thought was nice to enjoy the scenery to. Is that the case for HA for Tracy arm fjord or glacier bay?

We were in 6139 and no, same old carpet. It was really worn near the door/bathroom area.
Thats too bad. Thanks for the response.

Sailing on the Koningsdam in 3 weeks and now, I’m worried! Just short points for priority so we’ll be in the longest lineups and though I have tons of patience, I can’t stand in one spot for more than 15 minutes without a lot of pain. Is there anywhere to sit if my husband stands in the line so I can join him as he nears the check in? Quite a change from 2012 when I seem to recall one of our most efficient boardings!
Hope it goes well for you and keep us updated.

Tried looking but dont see it.. anyone know if koningsdam replaced its dated carpet in the rooms during the dry dock?

Whatever time it says to be on board on your paperwork, get in line at least three hours earlier.
hah Im trying to go at the last time possible to avoid the crowd.

I think i'd rather enjoy a nice casual lunch in vancouver before boarding.
Our cruise departs at 4pm in august I wonder what's the latest I can get there by to avoid the mess...?
-
What would be the latest time to embark from Vancouver port? Im going in August and would like to avoid the crowd as much as possible.

They can order a non-alcoholic drink pkg.
Thanks so just to be clear I can get the alcohol drink pkg and the minor in the same room can just get the juice pkg correct?
Wouldnt want to pay for 2 alcohol packages if only 1 can/will be used.

HAL: Please do not require both pax in one cabin to purchase the same beverage package. No other cruise line does that. We won't share. Promise.
Serious question what does HAL handle this if we are sailing with another pax that is under 21...? Makes zero sense for the minor to get an alcohol package.

For this route, the representative said generally odd numbers are better for the view of Glacier Bay since on the way back it'll be dark. For sunsets though, would I be better getting 4054?

Nonsense. Sun sets around 9pm during summer in Glacier Bay and ships are done with that port way before.

How did you guys get the special offers? They send you an e-mail or something?
-
GVcruiser I was on the Riviera. Sorry to say but for us they strictly did not allow it.
-
Just did a cruise with Oceania had two adjacent cabins only to learn on board that as policy they dont open the door between cabin balconies for safety reasons. Bummer.
Before I book 2 rooms on Holland just want to make sure they they too have similar policies?
Thanks

Sorry if its been asked but will laundry machines be open on embarkation hours?
Also what are the general hours of the laundry machines?
Thanks much in advance.

Also on the penthouse you can have your butler bring any dish from any of the specialty restaurants to your room to dine during dinner hours. Dont sweat getting extra reservations.
-
Having been on the solstice 2019 and 12+ meals in Luminae I can say without a doubt the food ingredients + quality isnt near Oceania(execution on how well the fish is cooked etc of course can vary by ship/staff). The french restaurant(for a bit extra $) was excellent and on par with Oceania. Add the crowd size and premium service there is no doubt Oceania is a decent step up... but of course it also cost more.
Both are decent choices. When my kids were younger I preferred Celebrity as its more family friendly and had better entertainment. Now I prefer Oceania.

The problem is that the beer offerings are very basic. With the plethora of craft beers in the world today most people are looking for more interesting beers than what they offer. I personally only like one or two they carry. So someone might want to bring their own favorites on.
Fair enough. Looks to me they carry a fairly good selection of beers but then my knowledge of beer is slim.
-
My guess he'll have no problems bringing beers on board but at the same time if he can afford Oceania he can probably afford just to buy a beer on the ship.

Great review!
Doesn't the ship stop by Tracy arm fjord before Juneau?
