My friend is severely disabled by MS. He lives in a care facility and uses an electric wheelchair. He needs full time care. He would like to take his children and grandchildren on a cruise, probably to Alaska as that is closest to home. My question concerns the disabled cabins. What kind of equipment is or can be put in them? Are there or can there be lifts? He would be accompanied by a caregiver. Any information is welcome.

Best dessert we had on the whole ta on Allure last year was sugar free chocolate panna cotta.

We did this cruise last year. Our cabin was on the port side and sunny.

We were on the Allure TA last year and were very impressed with Voom internet. We will be doing the TA on Brilliance this Fall and I'd like to know if it will have Voom by then?

We will be sailing on Brilliance in October for the TA. Looking forward to your review, we've never been on this class of ship.

This is a good point, because it seems they really push you to use the OBC immediately. Some have een gone so far as to say that you cannot get the OBC on the future cruise.
That happened to us on the Allure TA in Oct/Nov this year. We booked next year's Brilliance TA on the second to last day of the cruise and he insisted that we had to take the OBC immediately. We cashed out at the casino.

We were on Allure at the beginning of November and had some OBC left at the end of our cruise. This was OBC that RCI had given us as an incentive. We were able to cash it out at the casino. It was very easy, we went to the cashier and told him that we wanted to take out the remaining OBC. He didn't bar an eye

I'm enjoying your review and am following with interest as we will be sailing on the Brilliance on aTA next fall. The comedian you mentioned, Steve Smith, was he the guy who used to play Red Green on TV? He would be an older fellow now, in his 60s?

Are you any relation to Wayne and Pat Horning who live in Kelowna?
Sorry, I don't know the Hornings.

Surfs Up!
Early this morning before the ship slowed down it was too dark to get decent photos of the waves in the pool sloshing over the sides and ends.
Later on when it was light enough to take some decent photos the ship had slowed down and the size of the waves is now much smaller.
When we were on the Allure on a TA last month, the Seas were pretty rough once we hit the Atlantic. At one point one of the pools totally emptied itself on a woman sitting minding her own business in Central Park! A shock no doubt! After that they emptied all the pools for a couple of days.

Tetrapod? Xbloc?
These are 'knuckle bones' used to protect wharfs etc. When we were in South Africa they told us that they originated there. We've seen them used in many places.

MSC has repositioning cruises that go from Cape Town to Walvis Bay, Luderitz (sp), Dakar, Tangier's, and terminate in Venice. Or alternatively on the way from Europe to Cape Town they go down the east coast.

Eighteen days from Sydney to Perth. Loved the port to sea day ratio.

We just came off a 12 day transatlantic and did not find they pushed anything hard. Granted, we were usually in for the night around 10 so I don't know what happened later than that. I do know that a large part of the time is taken up with sales of a lot of junk brought in for the occasion! We had a good cruise.

My husband and I have difficulty walking for any fairly long period of time. Would you recommend Alhambra to us, as well?
I went to the Alhambra about 8 weeks after having had a total hip replacement. I was using a cane by then. I was able to do the tour of the palace itself but not the gardens. It was well worth doing. I was 66 then.

Tomorrow is the last day of a 12 day transatlantic cruise and in spite of having a glass of wine with dinner every night I am deep in ketosis. Lots of good choices on board and there is always sugar free ice cream if nothing else! Also, look for the sugar free chocolate panna cotta - to die for!! First night dessert in the MDR on our cruise.

Nata is cooking cream, very heavy unsweetened and available in Spain. My cruise left from Barcelona which is why I was able to pick it up. I am also on a low carb diet. On the cruise we had little creamers from a Scandinavian country, don't know which. I think it was heavier than half and half but not like whipping cream. My Nata lasted until about day 6 in the room cooler.

MSC has some Africa destinations.
-
Never mind, I got a small bottle of Nata for cooking which in my experience will work just great.

Is coffee cream available on the Allure? Not half and half, real cream? Where would I get it?
-
Thanks for the replies!
-
Of course! I must have lost my mind, after all the reviews I've read, you'd think I'd know!!

We are going on our first transatlantic from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale and hoping that it will be warm enough at some point to eat outside. Or is that just a pipe dream?
What aids are available to disabled?

Thank you all for the great responses and information. We are Canadian and my friend is retired military, so health insurance is not an issue. I will pass on the email addresses. Thanks again
