Very helpful thread - thank you.
German family are trying to convince us that AIDA is the best there is in europe. May have to look into it a little further :)

You are a star - this is what I was looking for. Thank you!
There appears to be enough variety from what I can pick & choose from.

Thanks for coming back & posting your review. Such a shame to hear that Spencer's is not as well organised as one would hope.
Re the lunch - we are doing the beach tour where lunch is served on the beach. When I mention I haven't been able to get info re the lunch that has been form the resort itself (not Spencers)
Fingers crossed that our experience is a positive one

I leave in a couple of days - hope to read about it before I get myself in the same situation! :)
-
Yes - thank you - that's the one!
Does anyone know the approx. cost of taxi from the pier to Philipsburg? (or is it walkable)
Are there cabs readily available to go to Maho?
And lastly, how does Philipsburg differ from Margiot?

Hello hoping X cruisers can help - I've confused myself & haven't received responses from the ports board.
I'm getting these 2 ports very mixed up re the shopping areas.
Which one of the two has the pretty colourful alleys filled with shops - maybe referred to downtown?
In St Marteen I though we'd do a little shopping (where??), then taxi to Maho around lunch & taxi back with plenty of time (heard traffic is bad)
In St Thomas, we'd like to head to Coki beach first then get dropped off for a wonder (alleys / shopping ?) then make our way back to the port.
Anyone know?

:eek:we did the land and sea tour last week with spenser, it was the most unorganized caotic mess i've ever seen. the only thing that saved the day was Mango, the boat driver, he was wonderful very freindly and informitive
May I ask why it was a chaotic mess? What went so wrong?
Really hoping that for Spencers sake he receives feedback & is able to streamline his processes!

I experienced the same thing. When I asked why his website says lunch at a resort (for the Land & Sea tour) and his emails say otherwise.... he told me not to worry about it.
We've decided to spend our day a different way.
Sorry what I meant is that the resort itself has been giving me a run around.
Spencer's beach break includes lunch by the resort - literally on the sand form my understanding. He serves the creole lunch.
We were considering having lunch at the resort itself (not cheap) but they have been unhelpful which brings me back to square 1 - what actual; food is served by Spencer?
-
I think I may be getting my ports confused. Is there good shopping in St Marteen? I recall seeing images on colourful shops in alleys - is this in St Marteen or possibly St Thomas?
My original idea was to do some shopping then head to Maho beach.
How does one 'get to' the shopping area? How much can I expect to pay in taxi fare for 2pax?
Then, are there taxi's readily available to get to Maho Beach? Approx cost?
And finally, from Maho back to port?
I have heard to leave plenty of time due to traffic we were were planning to leave around 2pm.
Your thoughts are appreciated..

According to his website, says cash only...
Thank you - I must have missed that.
It's a shame to hear that Spencer's is back to being disorganised. I know they changed a few things to streamline but doesn't look like it's stuck. I'm hoping we have a smooth sailing in a few weeks when we are there.
Another question:
What kind of 'creole' food is served? Anyone remember any specifics?
I'm unable to have dairy - are there traditional dishes that have hidden cheese?
I did try to organise lunch at the resort but they have given me a run around...
-
Thank you for the insight!

Any thoughts ?

I've convinced my parents to try X around the Greek Isles - currently working through the cabin selection.
Would you go Starboard or Port for these stops?
Venice, Italy
Kotor – Montenegro
Santorini – Greece
Athens (Piraeus) >
Katakolon – Greece >
Venice
Looking at a 2C, hump veranda options are: 6155, 6157, 6154 & 6158.
Many thanks in advance!

That's a shame - I have heard that breakfast in Blu is far superior than the other options.
I also have some dietary requirements which I need to consider..
I really want to use our balcony!
Maybe room service one night... although unsure how my dietary requirements will work :/
-
Basically, what you need to know is that 2C's have the lifeboats coming up to the floor of the balcony; 2D's have the lifeboats coming up to the railing of the balcony, so when you are sitting down, all you see is boat and sky.
In both cases, you cannot see the sea by looking straight down, only outward.
If you are a person who likes to spend a lot of time on their balcony, you probably do not want a 2D. OTOH if you just want the fresh air it probably wouldn't bother you, especially if the savings were substantial.
Thank you for the summary :)

Thanks for the reply.
I am thinking of booking a cabin for myself but there is a 50% chance that I will be cancelling before final payment.
Unfortunately I need to make a decision before I head off - if they wait until I get back the 123 promo would have finished.

Just wondering for those who have done the Beach Break -
What time is the arrival at the beach & what time is lunch served?
Also, re payment does he accept card or is cash the preferred method?
-
Anyone know if they have the facilities to provide breakfast for take away?
-
My parents are interested in a X cruise this summer, have all the booking details ready to go -
I'm boarding the Summit in a couple of weeks, am I able to book for them whilst on board for them to get the extras?
-
Just wondering if I can book inboard for my parents ?

Can Blu organise take away breakfast? Or is there a way one can room service from Blu?

In St. Thomas, we booked a waverunner/snorkel adventure through stthomasexcurions.com. We took a 15-minute taxi from the port to Coki Beach. Be prepared to pay $9 pp each way. Coki Beach was very nice. Since we had an hour before our scheduled excursion, we purchased a pair of beach chairs for $5 apiece and enjoyed the beautiful sand and water. We also paid $5 for a locker.
Thanks for reviewing!
Just wondering how 'safe' you would consider the lockers?
Were they well maintained / good location or did it look dodgy & you wouldn't place anything of value?
I'm wanting to take my good camera to Coki but worried about how secure these lockers are.

Thanks for the response (& bump!)
Yes, airlines are pricey, especially at that time of year but they go over to see family. I'm trying to find them good value cruise so the trip evens out!

Currency Conversion Authorisation

Only a few days until we depart on our journey to board our very first X cruise - very excited!
We've received the cruise documentation & I'm wondering which option would be best re the currency conversion. I know I have seen this topic on the boards but my search function is not working (not helpful)
Our options are:
Celebrity coverts for us or
Our credit card does the conversion
My instinct is saying that we should opt for our credit card, but i'm not sure...
Thoughts appreciated!
