  1. I just got an automated phone call and an email alerting me that Carnival Victory will have delayed boarding on Friday March 3rd.

The messages said all boarding will start no earlier than 1:30pm for all guests, including Diamond, Platinum, suites, FTTF.

Can anyone who has cruised on Victory in recent weeks and had delayed boarding tell me about what time the ship ended up leaving port?

    Thank you :)

  2. We were on the Magic in a cove balcony Cabin 2279 in December 3, 2016. There is a sewer smell. Right above the balcony are two vents on the outside of the ship where the vent fins are placed downward. The air is coming from somewhere in the bowels of the ship and is extremely foul smelling. In fact, given the angle of the side of the ship, if you sit on the balcony the air vents are blowing that air from the vent so strongly that it actual hits your legs and then bounces up into your face! It was untenable the first day. We thought it would subside after we went to sea. Nope, air vent on 24-7 and blowing into the cove balcony, making it unusable and unhealthy. The third day I went to Guest services. They were very apologetic and knew there was a problem. However, no available cabins anywhere as ship was sold out.

So, they gave us a 15% discount on this cruise and a 15% discount on a future cruise.

The room steward came everyday with an "ionizer" to clean the room air. And that smell after use was almost as bad as the balcony smell.

Now before anybody starts with their opinions on how they would have handled it, I want you to know that this was our 25th cruise with half of them on Carnival. So we are familiar with how things operate. And I am a retired New York attorney, need I say more.

We simply treated it as a oceanview room. Rather than aggravate myself and get my wife further upset, we simply enjoyed the ship. Also guest services continued to check on us as well as the room steward who we saw more than all the other cruises combined. I think he thought we would blame him!

What is disappointing is that Carnival is placing passenger after passenger in the same cabin year after year and not fixing the issue. Once I determined it was the vents, they could install movable ones and possibly redirect the air flow so it doesn't blow directly into that balcony. Guest services has repeatedly requested assistance to fix this issue but to no avail.

Yes, I know I could have insisted on more compensation and/or drafted a letter to corporate and escalated the matter. And I did check several more times about a cabin opening up after the first several ports. But we decided not to let this issue, which guest services could not fix as a practical matter, ruin our trip.

We are booked on the Magic in February 2018 in a Cove balcony. I have been scrutinizing cabin reviews and checking to see if there are any vents above us. The next booked cove balcony has no life boat and thus not shaded like the rest! I like the cove balcony because its cozy, the sea is right there and it is shaded from the sum by the life boats: something I need because of my skin condition acquired during my service during the Persian Gulf War. So I might ask to be moved before the week's out!

Sorry this happened to you. We had the exact same issue on a Cove balcony on the Breeze. The smell was terrible.

  3. About how far is Calico Jacks from the Marriott Grand Cayman? Walkable?

I would not recommend walking from CJ's to the Marriott in the super hot sun.. it will take at least 35 - 40 mins+ like Bookbabe said and that is at a brisk pace. You can pick up a city bus right outside the Seagrapes Public Beach ( where CJ's is) or outside Marriott that will take you to either one for under $3 one way.

  4. Now, I haven't tried, but their beach bar we ate at is the old Surfside building (right next to Tiki Beach). You could try asking if you were able to use at least the beach facilities by virtue of having a meal there. If you've lived there you at least won't be surprised by the menu prices. :-)

It wasn't crowded when we were there, and that was about 2pm on a Thursday (American thanksgiving). We wandered through, looked at the pool and grounds, ate, etc but didn't try using the pool or beach (and they did have security guards posted). We loved what we think are their beach bungalow rooms, they're in a small building between the pool and beach. It's definitely high end, but in an 'all the staff look like camp counsellors" kind of way. Very different vibe than the other five-stars along SMB. Lots of staff helping guests and keeping things pristine, and even what seemed to be private or semi-private kids club activities maybe.

That is a great idea about grabbing lunch and a cocktail at the hotel, thank you. I do love to walk through a lovely hotel and think that is what I may do when I visit on my cruise so I won't get scolded by security.

I definitely remember Cayman prices, lol. One of the few things I don't miss about living there. Everything else I do miss :)

How wonderful you are living there, please enjoy!

  5. There is really no need for "day passes" on GC....all the beaches are public, and have chair/umbrella rentals...and that area also has restrooms, and watersport rentals....

Just hop on the bus...tell the driver where you want to get off...and it will be done!

Yes, thank you. I lived in GC for almost 2 years and loved how the beaches are public.

I am interested in the hotel and grounds and getting to experience it for a day.

  6. DH and I went for lunch there in November. It's very nice. Gorgeous pool and beach area, fairly posh and upscale. I don't know if they offer day passes, though.

Thank you for your post. I would love to see how the hotel and grounds look. I lived on the island when the Marriott Courtyard was still there in that spot.

It may be an excuse to come visit my old stomping grounds of Grand Cayman for the weekend just to stay there if they don't offer day passes for cruisers.

  7. Couple other ships got in, brother in law is on the Allure but no announcement on board yet...anyone know why?

We were in Nassau yesterday on the Enchantment. Harmony was also there.

It was very windy yesterday and the water choppy after leaving Nassau. It was not good beach weather at all while in port due to winds. Our cab driver cautioned us about swimming yesterday due to windy conditions.

  8. I am thinking visiting Calico Jack's when we are in Grand Cayman on November 22nd. There are four cruise ships in port that day. It is my wife and I, our 12 year old daughter, and my 72 year old mom. Just want to make sure it is not place where there is a crazy party atmosphere. A festive atmosphere works for us, but nothing too over the top. We want to be someplace where we can rent lounge chairs and purchase decent food. Any thoughts and suggestions for our situation would be appreciated. I was also looking at Royal Palms and Tiki Beach.

Calico Jack's sounds like the perfect place for your family. That is our go to beach when visiting GC on a family cruise and my parents are a similar age to your parents and really enjoy it.

Also, Calico's has food, but Seymour's Jerk Chicken sets up a food cart at that stretch of beach right next to Calico's ( Seagrapes Public Beach) and his jerk chicken is amazing!

  9. We booked a quick getaway on Enchantment a week before sailing and the planner in me is panicking just a bit, lol.

Our last sailing on Royal was a few years ago on LibertyOS. I have searched the boards for answers to many questions but there are a few things I couldn't find or found conflicting info and am hoping you guys can help out...

We are booked in a suite - does Chops offer breakfast? Lunch?

What are our breakfast options on the last day? We would like to do express walk off if we can.

Does Windjammer still label items that are gluten free?

Are Starbucks coffees at Cafe Lattitudes included in the drink package?

My Time Dining was the only option available for dinner - we would like to eat around 6:30 - 7:00 each night, when and where do we make these reservations?

If a cabana on Coco Cay is not shown as available when I log into our reservation, does that mean they are sold out or do they hold back any for booking on the ship?

I just realized the majority of my questions revolve around food, lol!

Thanks for any help you can give - we are very excited!

I am sailing on the Enchantment on Thursday.

I made our " my time dining " reservations on the RC website last night under " my reservations" and then there are menu across the top for dining, internet, excursions. Pick the dining drop down menu and pick my time dining and you can pick the night and time. You have to check out each time you do that and then re-add the next night to your cart and do the process again. Hope this helps!

  10. I wonder why they would decide to take away something like this?!? I highly doubt they would pick up the rolled topper on a scan or go thru your luggage to find it. [emoji3].

We're leaving Oct 29th and will be ordering four of these before we leave! I figure we could just blow it up before bed and then deflate and throw it back in our bags in the morning. [emoji1360] I'm still chuckling at the thought of having my mattress topper removed - they definitely would hear from me at guest services! Lol.

Thank you to everyone for such great information!!! You saved our backs! [emoji869]

    Hi there,

I bring a rolled up mattress topper

from walmart each cruise and carry it on. It has never been taken away and I have never had an issue with anyone asking about it.

I just ask my cabin steward to please put it on the bed and they do.

Since I buy the $30 one for a twin bed, I offer it to the steward on the last morning and all have been happy to take it for their own room.

  11. Are you a high number Diamond cruiser? This otherwise, sure sounds like one of the purchased packages that are available?

My parents got a similar free " perk" package for their 40th anniversary onboard Conquest in June and got the cake in the dining room, chocolate covered strawberries in the room upon boarding with a card wishing them a happy anniversary from Carnival, a $50 spa gift card, and a $20 gift card for the the photo gallery.

They are gold level and booked the trip themselves online. They just marked in their online check-in process that they were celebrating an anniversary. My parents were delighted Carnival was so kind and helped make their anniversary memorable

  12. We went to Curaçao on the splendor last week. We used Irie tours. It was a colorful bus tour around the island with a stop at the Curaçao factory and then a stop at the beach. They let us stay at the beach for one or two hours, you get to pick. It was only 25 dollars a person and it was fun. The beach we went to had a beach club where you could rent chairs. There was also a shopping area with restaurants. Very pretty.

We also used Irie Tours in November 2015 while visiting on the Breeze. It was super fun and well worth the $25. Also, they provide free water and beer and the bus turns into a party bus ( complete with strobe lights and great music) at night on the way back to the ship. Highly recommend them!

  13. On the last night in the casino, I won the free cruise drawing. Has this happened to anyone else?

The certificate states the free cruise must be booked and traveled within 6 months of issuance. I was wondering if there was any possibility of Carnival offering some flexibility outside of that 6 months. I've already used all of my vacation time for this year. :(

    Thanks in advance.

Wow, congratulations!! Do you think you may be able to take a short cruise during any of the holidays in Nov. or Dec?
