  1. May I ask what do you use these clips for and where did you get them? A way to keep track of which chair is yours perhaps?

I am not Gambee ;) but you can buy them at Bealls (if you have one near you; for others, Bealls is a FL store).

Thanks CruisingGatorGirl for the location but can you tell me how or what to use them for. The parrot is super cute and I can image what the orca may look like. Just would like to know how folks are using them in particular.

  2. Loving your review and can't wait for more. Like your cabin too. But I was wondering if you would mind taking a pic of the shower for me. Would like to see again how it is shaped and width.

We always have accessible cabins (and pay extra for them). Just want to see if this might work for me. Thanks

  3. What surprised me was how long it took the food to come out even after I told him I was very sick. The metro d, passed around the table and I asked him, he then rushed and the food was there in seconds.

Mom ordered the risotto, it looked fantastic, but she said it was too salty. But please note that another person I spoke to later in the cruise said that it was the best risotto they ever had. I think my mom just ate on the wrong side. Because it looked amazing, I wish I had at least tried it...

And I got the seabass, how was it? Well I don't know. I think it was good, I took two bites and took off. You could see the tables near us were puzzled by our actions. I hope I did not interrupt anyones dinner, it was not my purpose to be rude to anyone. I believe I bumped into one chair...

They had given us the dessert menu earlier and they said that the dessert would be delivered to our room. I ordered two desserts on my way out and left, by the way the desserts never made it to our room that day.

How was Tuscan? Well as you can imagine it was just not my favorite. But it is not fair to judge that restaurant on one occasion that was just not the best for medical reasons. We loved how the restaurant is setup and even more the location of the restaurant. The food was good for the most part and service varies very easily. Please note that service was not all bad, it was just too slow for our taste. The servers, metro d and assistants were all fantastics and very nice. The one thing that I learned was that if I want to eat fast I should let the server know this ahead of time.

BTW, we still gave our regular extra tip in cash before leaving. Nothing will ever stop me from doing that, I actually had the cash in my pocket ready while waiting for the cards.

Will we try Tuscan in the future? Certainly, actually it is one of the two restaurants that I would go back to on the Silhouette. So that alone says something.

I truly am very sorry that you were feeling so ill and did not have an enjoyable time at Tuscan. It is one of our favorite venues on board. We have tried it on both the Equinox and the Constellation and both times dinner took approximately 3 hours to complete. I believe they do this so that you get the most ambiance (for lack of a better word) as possible. We have also done Ocean Liners and Silk and the time frame was the same. I'm glad that you are willing to try it again. I hope next time it will be a grand time for you.

    Loving your review!!!

  4. Hi Lynda, you're on our roll call. I'm not kidding... there were NO pastries at the buffet when we went to breakfast on the Millennnium last June - not at 9:00 when we were there and not a single day. We would walk around the entire buffet looking for them. We could see where they were supposed to be but they were all gone and there was no ship personnel to ask about them present. That was very disappointing because I'm a big pastry lover. There were plenty of scrambled eggs and bacon and sausage. However, the scrambled eggs were never done even those which we ordered per room service. That's one of the items I wrote about on the card at the end of the cruise. The breakfast buffet was one of the poorest areas on the otherwise wonderful cruise. Also, the men who did man it were either surly or completely absent.

WOW, that cruise sounds like it had some issues then. So sorry to hear that.

We had never had a problem finding items - (people yes) but we still manage. We are extreme late arrivers to breakfast when cruising - we walk in anywhere from 10:30 - 11:15 and still manage to find plenty of what we like still available. We never do the scrambled eggs as they never look appealing. We go directly to the Eggs to Order station and have things made.

Hopefully your next cruise will wipe that memory out. ;)

  5. Gambee, the first thing I do in the morning after signing on and checking my April 29 Roll Call is to check your thread. I'm going to have Silhouette withdrawal after our cruise and my have to go back over your photos.:) One thing I do hope is that the pastries will be available at breakfast in the Oceanview Café on this cruise. On the Millennium last year, by the time we got down to breakfast, there were NO pastries left :(.

You can always order some through room service. This way you are sure to get some.

  6. You will just LOVE IT when you get it. We had an accessible aft on our cruise last week and OMG was all I could say when we first entered the cabin, followed by OMG OMG OMG when we actually went out on the balcony. Just AMAZING!!!

DH now has asked me, will I ever be satisfied with getting just any other cabin again???

I was trying to upload a couple of photos for you to see of our balcony and I see that they did not post. Trying again. We had 2 lounge chairs, 2 Adaranda (excuse spelling please) style chairs, a coffee table, and a round table with 4 chairs to sit and enjoy breakfast.

Then we kept on walking towards the buffet in the aft.

  8. So why are you staying at the La Quinta in Secaucus? Free room perhaps?

You have mobility issues. I would recommend getting a hotel in Manhattan so you can take cabs to get around NY. it will cost you more to take car services from the airport to Secaucus, from Secaucus in and out of NY, and from Secaucus to Cape Liberty than it will to take a car service to a NYC hotel And from the hotel back to Cape Liberty.

Yes the park in NY exists. My husband says it is on the upper west side near Riverside Drive - perhaps Riverside Park?

No there is no free room this time. We just happen to like the chain - in years past we would travel with our small pet and they were the best "pet friendly" chain to use, along with reasonable rates.

I am not "married" to the reservation in Secaucus and can easily cancel it. I have also made a reservation at the Hilton @ Penn Station for one night. Kinda leaning in that direction. Don't mind riding a train into the city. Think it would be fun. It's been 10 years since we were last in NY.

  9. Tell us more details about your dates and plans in the area. Driving or flying? How many people?

The advantage to Secaucus is that there is easy bus transportation to NYC. However, if you're flying you will pay to get to the hotel and then pay to get to Cape Liberty.

Flying into Newark Airport on Saturday, May 25th, arrival hopefully will be on time at noon. We sail on the Summit on May 26th. It's just the DH and myself. We are thinking to go directly to hotel, have not checked if they offer a shuttle or not. If they do great, will arrange for that, if not thinking to catch a cab or maybe arranging for a car service. After getting to the hotel if room is available we will drop off bags, if not arrange to leave them with desk for later. Then we talked about going into Manhattan for the rest of the day. Thinking either cab or possible arranging for car or even taking a train.

One thought I have had but have not discussed with DH yet, was to see if car service could be hired for the day to take us around the city and if we get out to wait for us to return. Does this sound like something that could be done and not cost an arm and a leg? I have a bit of a mobility issue, and can not walk great distances without having to stop and rest.

Also, DH is wondering if anyone knows if that little park/neighborhood really exists from the movie "You've Got Mail"? He would love to visit it. Do you know if it does?

I also need to find out if hotel has shuttle to take us to port on Sunday or can arrange to get us there or we just arrange for a car or taxi.

  12. Hello Ann,

Would you please be so kind as to forward your spread sheet as well as the directions if you have them saved as a document to me. I am thinking I may become ambitious and try to organize one for my upcoming curises. I am new to CC and to the whole roll call thing and think I might like to get my cherry broken again. LOL

I was on a cruise last year and watch a slot pull in action and thought how cool was that. The group had sooo much fun. The entire casino was routing them on.

    My email addy is: allie-brandy@hotmail.com

  13. You also need to remember that you are only able to order 1 drink at a time. They may allow for a bottle of water and a soda at the same time, but mostly its 1 at a time per package.

It is also very true what artmc stated about doing the math. If you are not a big drinker, then it may not be as beneficial for you.

My DH and I are not big alcohol drinkers, so what we do is buy 2 premium Non-alcoholic packages (all the soda, water, juices, coffees (incl specialty ones) and smoothies/frozen drinks we want. Then when either of us wants to indulge in anything more we just buy it and pay the price.

Usually, if DH wants a Rum and Coke, he orders a long pour shot of the rum and only pays for the rum, and has the waiter bring a separate coke. Then he combines the 2. When it comes to wine with dinner, we will buy a bottle and if any is left, either save it for the next night in the dinning room or take the bottle with us back to our room if we think we would like more later on.

Just offering a suggestion for another way to go.

Enjoy whatever your decision is and Happy Sailing

  14. Thank you for the information. Now I need to start researching, planning, and saving some $$. LOL.

As to your question, about the Connie, we have done 2 Holiday cruises (14 night) on it in the past and we not disappointed. It is a smaller ship in comparrision to the Equinox. This year is our first time on the Equinox but we did do one a 7 nighter on the Eclipse this year so I'm going to just assume that the 2 ships are very similar (same class catagory). We sometimes do tend to like the smaller ships - not as many passengers and getting around can be a bit easier.

I just think that it will just depend on your likes and tastes. Our very first ever curise we did splurged a bit and got a balcony cabin and were not disappointed in the least. Enjoyed the sunrise and sunset when entering and leaving San Juan, Puerto Rico. Was just beautiful and we did not have to compete for rail time to take pictures on the top deck. We just did them from our balcony.

Since that time, we have been with booking inside cabins. Save the $$ to use for excursions, speciality resturants, spa treatments ;), ect... Plus we are not in the cabin that much so the savings is best.

I hope you do take the opportunity to sail this holiday. You will enjoy it.

I can't wait for December to get here. I for one am very excited that we are doing our first back 2 back cruise. Imagine 21 nights. :D Can't wait.
