It's the long awaited reconstruction of the terminal, however, only Carnival will be totally shut out during the construction per previous reports.

Princess (5), TUI (3) and Crystal (1) are still on (for a very limited schedule) ~

I live here and have not seen any work started as of yet.  Maybe they are working on the inside, but as I have passed it randomly, no construction vehicles seen.  Could have missed them though.

Question now becomes is where will the Legend be headed until the harbor can reopen. News reports are saying a month at best. Manhattan? Norfolk is not available currently.

I live in Norfolk and can see no work being done on the terminal as of yet.  Maybe it is only on inside right now, but no construction vehicles, etc. but maybe I have missed them.

  3. Had my first experience, and hopefully my last, with Princess Customer service.  Called to verify my cruise cancellation and discuss how refund would be issued since I paid between CC and Gift Cards.  They kept saying over and over, it will take 7-10 business days, that is your question, correct? No, it isn't.  After 3rd try, and much background noise, I gave up and will hope for best.  So frustrating how they have changed the service levels here too.  This has not been an enjoyable 1st Princess cruise experience compared to my other Carnival, Royal and Celebrity ones. Yes, I used an outside travel agent, who has now provided me with my answers, but regardless.  Thankfully, I can move on and forward from here.

depends upon the schedule of each ship as long as the one docked in front comes in later and leaves earlier than the one in the back spot. No problem.

Carnival has priority since they built the port, though other CCL.lines use it as well.

Makes sense Carnival having priority...on the 17th, both ships have the arrival time 8am though.

I don’t understand why this happens when these schedules are planned like 2 years in advance!

Exactly, in this instance, it was not a surprise at all on the side of Princess.  They are allowed to market it, knowing that it will not happen IMO.  Bad practice and seems to be a trend in the Crusing world, not unique to Princess/Carnival Corp.

Regal has been sailing from Galveston for awhile now, while the Carnival Celebration (the other large ship that bumped us) just came to Galveston with much fanfare on December 20th.  I assume it's because they have been pushing this 'new' larger ship from Galveston and it has much larger passenger capacity vs Regal.

I'm no port expert, but simple math told me weeks ago that a ship with passenger capacity of 6,500 + ship with passenger capacity of 3,600  = more than the Mahogany Bay stated capacity of 8,000.  I find it rather shady that Princess continued to sell MB excursions up until yesterday when they've obviously known for some time there wasn't enough room for both.

Oh well -- off to Belize we go 🙂  Beats a day at work!

I wonder if Carnival Glory on Jan 17th is going to change given it is slotted for MB with Carnival Jubilee, so basically the same size ships on the same day then too.  Agree it is better than working, but shady nonetheless.

Has it happened before with other inaugurals? Honest question, I’m fairly new to cruises.

Yes, but most common with "new" class builds such as Sun.  Also, happens regularly with normal itinerary changes, such as non-weather related port changes.  This unfortunately is not unique to Princess.

We will have to wait and see. Accordingly to the video 3 weeks ago, they have a long way to be completed. I won’t be surprise a delay announcement coming soon. I hope I’m wrong

Agree, but if history is any indicator, Princess will wait till last minute to announce any change or delay unfortunately.

  9. In same boat, no pun intended. I booked Regal for Roatan/Mahagony Bay 1 month ago.  (Silly me, I should have gone with Carnival Celebration from Miami, but thought trying Regal since same ports would be fun).  I also understand the cruise lines are 100% in their power to change ports.  However, it is the fact that Princess has absolutely known they would not be using MB, but kept it on the schedule to increase selling cabin on Regal.  This is deceitful to me and does not give me good vibes from my 1st Princess cruise. Rant over as there is nothing that can be done.

  10. Some ask why it would not make sense for anyone not to purchase the Plus package.  Here is why for us personally, it does not work to our advantage....Cost of package for 7 days is approx $840 additional.  If you back out the cost of items we would  "use" (wifi, grats, 2 Casual Dinings, Medallion shipping), it leaves around $450 to spend on drinks to break even (5 - $13 drinks a day). We have maybe 2 drinks a day, if that, and do not get specialty coffee, juice, water, etc.  We are good with what the MDR or buffet serves, so for us, we pay as go and it has always been cheaper.  I understand for most this may not be the case, but it is for some.  That is what I love about having the choice.  No one answer is right, each person gets to choose.

I would think the brig would be more secured. Unless you station someone right outside their cabin 24/7, what’s to prevent them from leaving?

I was on this cruise, and a security officer sat in a chair outside the person's inside cabin all day and night.  It was a few doors down from us.  The person was not leaving their room for sure.

  12. -Individuals who stay all day in a hottub, never gettnig out, while drinking non-stop...who has a bladder that big? Nobody...😬

-People who insist on "joining" either the comedy show, magician, etc. with comments they think are either funny or cute.  Let the performers do their job and be quiet, quit ruining the show for others☹️
