  1. I belong to a Facebook group, one of the people in the group just came off the Escape yesterday, they had paper straws.

I’m sailing on the 11/3 Gem, and I would be interested in knowing if the Gem has straws. I think this is a great post. I have extremely sensitive teeth and would need the straws for frozen drinks. I do have a few packs of paper straws ready but I’d rather not carry them around.

  2. That you didn’t die; that’s an excellent start!

DD aren’t cruising with anyone else who can mind our bag, towels, etc. Is there a place to stash them near the excursion?

    Nope- still alive!! ;)

There was a bench and picnic table right outside the little cottage that you will have to go to so you can sign whatever paperwork they give you, that’s all I remember. If you are going to get a lounge chair or a clamshell, I think it’s best to leave all your stuff there and then just walk over to the cottage, that’s what we did. .carry phones with you, I had a waterproof case that hung around my neck and was able to videotape the whole time!!

  3. I’m booked on the upcoming 11/3 sailing on the Gem..without a doubt the best deal I ever got.

My husband and I both picked up cruise certificates from a land based casino, they were for inside cabins but since they each had the same ship, itinerary and dates, we were able to combine them and start out at Oceanview, we paid to upgrade to mid-ship balcony, we picked the 11/3 sailing because, at the time of booking, they were offering free taxes, port charges & fees..free perks were dining package and beverage package. $1000.00 total for both of us!!

  4. Please don't think I'm being antagonistic here, I am merely interested.

How can you not eat any oil in your diet?

Meaning.... can the body survive without any oil? how would you absorb/obtain fat soluble vitamins?

Salt... I find all meals on cruises to be saltier than I cook at home, I think this one maybe be the trickiest.

FYI, I was a chef for many years, and all veg has added salt in any commercial establishment. Unless notified otherwise.

If I had dietary requirements this serious, I would not trust a mainstream cruise company to do this. Your health is more important.

But this sounds like a weight loss plan.

That’s the same reason I asked!! No sugar means no fresh fruit either🤷🏻*♀️. Fruit has natural sugars but it’s still sugar so if someone cannot have sugar- they can’t have fresh fruit???

  5. What sailing are you on? I looked today and it’s not coming up as a listed excursion on myncl?? I’m sailing 11/3 on the Gem.

Adults are $109.00 and children are $89.00.

I just added it to my reservations, when I called it in the shore excursion department said we do not have that, I said check again because it’s showing in my NCL and I was a pig in s... when I saw it.

  6. From what I've seen, yes they do get new slots. Dawn had some updated machines after her refurbishment.

We have been on the Escape seven times and noticed a couple of new machines on 3 or 4 of those cruises. They can just change out the program on some consoles and the same machinery comes up as a new game.

Thanks! Hopefully I will see a few new ones this time around.

  7. How often (if at all) do the ship casinos get new/different slot machines? I’m on the 11/3 Gem sailing and wondering if I will see any new slots. I was on the Gem in July of 2016 after it had been refurbished.

Do the ships get new machines during a refurbishment?

  8. I’m booked on the 11/3 Gem sailing. My husband and I both got cruise certificates from a lane based casino for inside rooms.

I combined those so we started out with ocean view. I picked a sailing that had free port charges, taxes & fees and I paid to upgrade to a balcony. We have the free open bar and the specialty dining package and are paying $550.00 per person!!

  9. I, for one, got sick from the large smoking areas in escape the last time I sailed. Had to take additional days off work and take steroids for a week after...still wasn't 100% until a few weeks later. A friend on the same ship was a little better off then me. So yea, smoking - even outside can affect people on top of the regular old second hand smoke danger.

If you got sick from smokers smoking OUTSIDE- then you’d get sick from

Smokers smoking OUTSIDE all the time, cruise ship or not. 🤷🏻*♀️

  10. I wanted to see how the price of our upcoming cruise would be affected if we decided to choose the specialty dining package as one of our free offers. I tried to do a dummy booking, but it doesn't ask you to choose which offers you want anymore. Or am I missing how to do it? It seems like you used to be able to see how fees and grand total would differ if you chose UBP and SPD vs UBP and excursion credit or whatever.

Trying to see what difference in price would be if we chose specialty dining package instead of waived service fees ($13.50/person/day - group booking offer option in 2017). Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Are you making sure to pick a date that offers free at sea because I did a mock booking today and was able to add both dining package and UBP.

  11. We were on the same cruise and heard the code alphas as well. Normally code alphas are medical emergencies requiring immediate assistance. I was on a ship where the code alpha was someone who was supposedly stabbed and one where someone supposedly died, but no idea about what happened this particular time. I hope the people involved are ok though!

I enjoyed the cruise but it definitely wasn't my favorite. We stayed in the Haven and kept coming across a couple who stayed there as well who were fighting with each other non-stop from the second they boarded, constantly cursing and yelling at each other. It was very uncomfortable, and not the cruiseline's faut in any way.. but makes you wonder why a couple so miserable would want to be trapped with each other in the same room for a week and pay an extra premium for it lol.

What Haven room where you in Keith? We were in an AFT Balcony 11910, next door to a Haven. Thankfully, I didn't come across the couple you are speaking of.

  12. I'm wondering if anyone that was on the 8/20 Breakaway sailing heard of any medical issues? Mid week, I heard a "code alpha" alert and then, on Sunday morning my husband was walking down the hall on deck 11 AFT and he saw a few security guards standing outside of a stateroom and when he looked in, there were more in the room. He said the passanger in the room was embrace in a hug with two people and she was crying...I can't stop thinking about this because it was the day we were getting off the ship and I can't imagine ending a vacation like that.

On another note, this was my second time on the Breakaway, I have zero complaints about the cruise. We had gorgeous weather, Bermuda is absolutely beautiful. We went to horshoe bay Wednesday and then to Snorkel Park Beach on Thursday, we walked around the naval dockyard on Friday and did some shopping and then back to snorkel park for the last few hours. The ship never felt crowded except the obvious (adult pool area) but I had my 9 year old daughter with me so I was by the kids pool which was surprisingly empty everyday. We ate at Cagneys (always on point) and did the complimentary restaurants the rest of the time. I would do this itinerary again in a heartbeat- looking into for next summer on the Escape.

  13. Going to be on the Breakaway and was wondering how well the texting part of the app worked? Also is it free?

It's $9.99 per device. I used it last week on the Breakaway and it worked perfectly. I was texting all week, never an issue. Download the app before you get on the ship.

  14. Anyone have info on them? My wife and I are morning coffee drinkers, and have no issues, or should I say, my wife has no issues of me getting up and getting us coffee in the morning from the buffet.. But what can I expect, if anything, that's provided in the room? Are they replenished daily? Thanks for the info...

I just got off the Gem on Saturday- had a balcony cabin and the coffee maker was the 4 cup drip coffee maker- it was always replenished when the room Stewart turned the room down at night.
