  1. Ah, the great wrinkles dilemma! We will be on Breakaway in January. I do understand there are no self-service laundry rooms but I've heard you can ask your room steward for an iron and board for a couple of hours....is that true on the Breakaway?

Also I know that irons are forbidden but I've searched this board and have found conflicting responses about hand held fabric steamers. Some threads say absolutely not and other posters say they have taken fabric steamers and left them in plain view and never had a problem. Does anyone know for sure?

    Any info is greatly appreciated!

Don't know about the steamer but yes, you can call guest services to request an iron and ironing board, they will bring it but give you a 2 hour limit and you will have to call when you are done and they will pick it up.

  2. Did anyone else have a blast?!!?

I didn't want to get off the ship!! :(

Met some wonderful people on board!! Say hi if you saw me on the ship!!

    -Lisa

Did you make it to GSC? How was the weather? I was on the 11/3 sailing- we missed GSC but had beautiful weather for the 2 days we spent in Nassau..I loved the ship and hope to do the Bermuda itinerary next summer!

  3. Does anyone know if they made it there today?

I thought they were there this morning by looking at the deck can but then I checked now and it looks like it is at sea- look like rain also so they could have tendered and left early if the wind or waves were bad

  4. Does anyone know where the Breakaway docks for Port Canaveral stops? I'm wondering if we will be on the side near Ron Jon's and Jetty Park.

There is a shuttle bus (it's listed on the shore excursions) that will take you to cocoa beach and to Ron Jon's. I think it's about 15 minutes from port and I think the cost was under $15.00 - two way fare.

  5. What ship was this? I had a similar experience on the Breakaway. Attitude right until the last night. I made an effort to meet management during my week on the ship, ask about our comp dinner, etc, and she seemed to avoid players like the plague. I had earned roughly 12,000 points or so that week and when I asked about what my final OBC was, the manager said that I didn't get any, as I would have needed to make at least 2500 points. I asked her to please check again, that I was well over 2500 points. She said she would check when she "had time" and she huffed and puffed until she finally checked and came to give me an answer while rolling her eyes. No apology, no nicety, nothing. For this reason alone I have no interest in sailing that ship again.

I was on the Breakaway as well- it was probably the same person! Attitude all week and no interaction with players at all...she seemed not to want to be bothered at all!! I would sail again only for the dealers and other casino staff..they were all great.

  6. The amount of comp off your bill is completely in the control of the casino manager. They can be stingy or they can be generous...apparently they have guidelines, as discussed, but they can go above or below if they want.

Agreed..while the dealers and bartenders (staff in general) were very friendly all the time and on a first name basis with us- the casino management was not..at all. I was answered with an attitude from the start, not the same experience on the jewel last year, we were comped a dinner from the host/manager and the $150.00 off and believe me- we didn't spent a ton of money..or at last not compared to what I've read. We lost about $3000.00 on the jewel.

  7. The question they asked was the key.... if you have big losses, they can comp-off more dollars.

The extra 5000 points is a tier-bonus. It's basically worth approx. $50 off the on board charges.

Thanks- I guess it's better that we won!! First night out - not even an hour into playing my DH hit for $700.00 and 20 minutes later I hit for $1440.00!

  8. I have a question for the CAS experienced cruisers. I have not sailed NCL since 2007 so all of my past points or perks are gone. On our October Breakaway cruise I accumulated 13800 points and was awarded another 5000 for a total of 18800, hot level. I know my "real" point number for perks is the 13800. I am now going a Feb Breakaway cruise and being comped a mini suite. I will make Golden on the first night on this cruise and lets say at the end of the cruise I have 25000 points.

My question is when I reach the Golden level will I be offered multiple comped cruises for the following year? Or do the comped cruises depend on each previous sailing. If I take a cruise in June and only earn say 2000 points, will I still be offered comped cruises for that year?

Comps are great and I try to accumulate points, but if dump 10k the first night, I am pretty much done for the cruise and if I lose it quick, I will not earn many points.

    Any thoughts?

If you don't mind my asking:

    - how did you get awarded an additional 5000 points?

    - how much was taken off your bill for the 13800 points?

Last year on the jewel we had $150.00 taken off for earning about 2500 points, this year on the 11/3 sailing if the breakaway got $27.00 off for earning 2700 points- made no sense at all and when I questioned it- the response was "well, did you win"...

  9. Not sure. But for my husband and myself it was 198

    Artman Family

    NCL Sky December 16-20

I paid the same $99.00 for the 11/3 sailing- apparently Thai was a really good price- last year (even though we never made it due to hurricane Sandy) I paid $129.00 pp.

  10. And there seems to be plenty available. At the last minute, DD wanted to join a friend and her family that she met earlier on the cruise and go to Aqua Adventure with them. So at 8:30 that morning I was able to purchase her a ticket - so, I'm guessing it's highly unlikely it sells out.

That depends on how many shops are in port...the 11/3 sailing only had the breakaway in port on 11/7, that is probably why you were able to buy the excursion at the last minute.

  11. This was our second time, so we went with a plan (slides/beach and or lagoon/Dig). The first time, we "wasted" time just swimming in pools. When we got to the lazy river, we had no idea that is was not a lazy river - lol. We wished we found it earlier.

After getting off of the buses, we were led through the casino. At one point, we saw a sign that said Aqua-adventure, and we followed it to the left, instead of following the leader (others did, as well). I don't know where the guide ended up taking the others.

We followed the guide and I was a little disappointed, I never did get to the "lazy" part of the river- just the roaring rapids and witnessed a child almost drown in a double tube with her Mom (ruined my whole day) I think there should be more warnings about how rapid that river is!!

  12. We just booked this excursion for our trip on the Sky Dec18.

I have read older posts about taking a taxi for a few bucks. Is this true? How did that process work? Where do you go? Price?

    Anyone recently do this?

I just did this on the 11/3 sailing of the breakaway. Waterpark opens at 10am- we arrived at Atlantis about 9:40 with the tour bus and buses start back at 1:00 and run every half hour. If you take cab- fixed rate is $4.00 per person, however if it's 2 people only - the flat rate is $11.00. I would just take the tour bus - we had to be back on the the ship for 5:30 and had plenty of time to see everything.

  13. This multi part question goes out to anyone who has been on NCL Breakaway, and plays slots:

A: Are there penny slots onboard NCL Breakaway?

B: Are there WMS/IGT slots onboard NCL Breakaway?

C: Do you remember the slot machine names? I specifically am looking for WMS Colossal Reels (Colossal Wizards, Giant's Gold, Van Hellsing, Li'l Red, ect), WMS G+ Deluxe or Life Of Luxury Deluxe Beir Haus...WMS Clue, Willy Wonka, ect.

(If anyone remembers seeing those titles on the Breakaway reply below, i'm scared it's going to be like all those 777/Bar/Fruit Symbol machines w/ some unknown computer themed games made by Bally specifically for cruise ships)

My choice was Vegas for 2 weeks, going on a cruise instead...

Lots of penny slots - don't remember names but there is a big selection.

  14. Oh wow, thank you, those photos are beautiful! We were on our aft balcony at that time, I bet if I look hard enough I'd be able to find us in that picture :-)

Pulling into port was a lot of fun with the other ships' passengers cheering and waving to us.

    Thanks for posting!

If you were in 9916-there are 2 people standing on the balcony if you enlarge the picture!! I know this because I was right next door to you in 9918 and looked to see if we were out;)

We had Fery as our room steward also- loved him- always a smile and did a great job all week. I enjoyed the cruise also- all the meals were great and had no issues with service at all. I, too, wish we has gotten another day or 2 of better weather as I thoroughly enjoyed Wednesday & Thursday sitting in the sun all day long. The adult pool area is way to small and I could count, on one hand, how many loungers were actually in the sun- the setup is bad but I spent a lot if time at spice h20 when it was sunny out- never had a problem finding a lounger there. I am thinking about doing the Bermuda itinerary as well- going to check out the dates for next year- will probably take my daughter with us (she will be 7 but has special needs) so I think docking for 3 days would be less overwhelming for her first cruise experience.

  15. Just returned from an absolutely wonderful vacation! I, like many others were hesitant when booking due to numerous negative reviews. Please please please don't listen to these reviews! For all of you future Breakaway cruisers, this ship is amazing!! We loved it! We had a balcony. It is small, but served the purpose of being able to sit out there and read, or just check out the view. Service was top notch. We didn't have any issues. Food was yummy!!we tend to steer away from the buffets, but even that was tasty when we did.

Thanks to cruise critic, I tried some things based on your recommendations.... The lobster tail from Carlos bakery was delish! The pot pie from Osheehans was pretty good.dont think I'd get it again tho. Please don't slam me on my next opinion... We did not like Fire and Ice at all! We tried it twice. To us, she seemed wayyyy too dramatic and jumping around all the place only seemed to hide like an attempt to hide the fact that she really doesn't have a strong singing voice. Did a dis service to michael jackson, and whitney. We avoided them!! The blues band in fats cats, however, was great entertainment. Good band, good times! Ropes course was soooooo much fun! Ice bar was a must do. Once is enough tho. Drinks aren't very good in there unless you like yours super sweet and weak. Taste and savor we're absolutely delicious. We dined there almost every morning. Manhattan room was out of ths world. Cagnys was superb! I had an hsn free meal and bottle of wine, which I was under the impression could only be used in ocean blue, but I brought the confirmation letter to cagnys and she said I could use it there. Soooo good.

The water slides were fun! Yes, it's true about the pool area being too small, but it's also true that there are plenty of seats above that deck! We never had an issue. In my opinion, there is no need for vibe passes. Spice h2o serves the same purpose and for free! We liked it there a lot!!

Latitudes party was fun. They served all kinds of drinks for free and passed around some apps. probably a tad too windy out there that night, but we weren't complaining with our free champagne!

We missed great stirrup cay, but the good part was that the captain knew ahead of time we weren't going, so we didn't have to waste time trying o tender. We had another day in Nassau, so we got to shop one day, the do Atlantis the next, which by the way was awesommmmmeeee!!

We aren't gamblers, but yes, the casino smelled of stale smoke from day one. Yuck. No buggy, you got used to it.

Howl at the moon is a lot of fun, and is quality entertainment! Hmmmm, what else, I'm all over the place. Ha

Oh, embarking was a breeze. We arrived in port at 11:45. We were on in 20

minutes. Did the walk off debarked. We were off by 7:20am.

Here's a little something that happened to us, just to share in case this happens to someone else.... When we got to port and the girl checked us in, she asked for our method of payment for onboard. We gave her our debit card. She said oh no, you don't want to do that. They will put $300 hold on your card. Just give me a credit card now, and then on the last day befit you come back, go to guest services and change your method of payment to the debit. We told her the credit card we brought didn't have much on it, because we have all our spending money in the debit. She said that's ok, they won't charge it. Well long story short, on Friday( the second to last day) our sea pass won't work anywhere. We go toughest services and she tells us it's because our credit card doesn't have enough on it to cover the purchases we've made so far. So they cut us off. We couldn't believe it. We explained how we were misinformed. The girl really didn't care, nor did the supervisor on. They just wanted a proper method to pay.. Which we fully intended on giving... On Saturday as instructed! We thought it was odd that they checked the card before Saturday. Anyway, it was a little snafu. Nothing that ruined our vacation by any means. Communication was a bit lacking on their part! Oh, and the ship never seemed overcrowded! That was a plus!!

So anyway, we loved our vacation. Loved the breakaway. We did a future cruise credit. Time to start planning again!

7 das is not enough time to cruise! I wished we could've stayed. Any questions, I'll try to answer if I can.

I was on the 11/3 sailing and agree- loved the ship, food and service. Did you have good weather all week? We missed GSC also but had 2 gorgeous days both Wednesday & Thursday.

  16. Thanks Infiniti!!

Hard to figure what to pack. Leaving from freezing temps to warm and I guess can be anything in between.

No problem- definetly pack a sweatshirt, you'll need it for the sea days when walking around outside on Monday & Saturday for sure, hopefully you will get lucky and have some sunshine on Friday and have better weather than we did that day.

  17. Thanks for the review. A few questions if you don't mind...

1 - on the way there when did it start to warm up? On the way back was it cold on Sat?

2- Jersey week - were there a ton of kids on board? We're going Thanksgiving week. Should be comparable.

3 - You mentioned it was rocky the night you went to moderno, was the rest of the trip ok?

    TIA

I was on this sailing as well...

1.-weather was windy & cool on Monday, Tuesday morning until about 12:00 was warm and sunny but then it rained the rest of the day. On the return, Friday wa cloudy and cool all day and surprisingly Saturday it was sunny- if you laid directly in the sun it was okay to lay out- no going in the pool, to cold for that but it was comfortable enough that I fell asleep in the sun for over an hour!

    2. There were ALOT of kids onboard but still never felt overwhelmed by adults or children- we were told the sailing was 100% full and the only time I felt it was on embarkation day in the buffet.

    3. I remember feeling a little extra rocking on Monday & Tuesday night, nothing crazy- I think there was one more day of extra rockiness, just can't remember when but for the most part it was a comfortable ride.

  18. We are in Florida right now and just got announced that the stop at GSC is cancelled...Third time it was canceled in a row for the Breakaway!

We are now due to dock at Nassau tomorrow at 1 pm.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Forums mobile app

It was cancelled for us last week and we arrived in Nassau at 4...it stinks but you can't change the weather- we did have beautiful days both Wednesday & Thursday though- hope you get the same!
