We currently have NCL booked on SWA for ATL to SanJuan.  We don’t like the flights so we purchased tickets on Delta using miles.  But here’s what I am curious about.

NCL air department made it very clear that once we are within 72 hours of departure, it is between us and the airline…as they no longer have liability for the reservation.

SWA has a policy where you can cancel up to 10 minutes before departure time.  And, if you have a Southwest Rapid Awards number, they will credit that passenger with the cost of the fare to be used on a future flight.  They also specifically say that the credit goes to the passenger, not the method of payment.

I will be trying this in a couple weeks and will post.  I believe there are other airlines that may have a similar e-credit policy.

For instance, I suspect with Delta, if NCL books a basic economy, and I pay to upgrade to main cabin, I could then cancel and get an e-credit to my frequent flyer account vs losing 100% of what we paid NCL.

I have a question for you. I decided to use my SW points for my flights instead of the Delta NCL ones which were not near as good. I chatted with Delta who told me I had to cancel through NCL but I do not want to cancel until the last minute because of the fiasco with Southwest airlines being delayed or canceled, etc. So after reading your post, would you recommend me trying to cancel my Delta flights  using the app?  I would want to do this about an hour before the Delta one leaves. The Delta rep told me if I don’t show up for the first one the second one would automatically be canceled. But Based on that 72 hour rule you mentioned NCL wouldn’t be able to help me anyway.  I know I’m out the money, but I kind of want the option to be able to take Delta home if Southwest gets canceled or delayed or whatever.  On a recent cruise Southwest canceled the flight and I had to drive all night to  make the cruise over this. Wondering if I should keep the Delta flights because presumably if something goes wrong, NCL will get you on another flight and to the cruise one way or the other.

Have taken a few of the My Vegas comp cruises on RC, Carnival, and MSC. I was already planning on my next cruise being on NCL and was ready to book so when I saw they were offering rewards again I decided to wait and see.

Got the $750 off reward and booked the  Getaway May 9 night out of Port Canaveral yesterday. Since I was already going to book saving $750 worked for me.

Good for you!  As soon as I got the email, I went to the apps and it took hours for the offers to show up. Most all were sold out.   By any chance would you be able or were you able to combine it with a cruise next certificate if you had one?

  3. I am platinum  NCL and just recently in the last couple years did 4 MSC cruises. They are such a deal. You can book with the drink package unlimited Wi-Fi with no gratuity. The yacht club is something else. I’ve never done the Haven but wow the yacht club is worth every penny!   I bid and won an upgrade yacht club cabinand  used the 30% off coupon from myVEGAS on another. The entertainment was good. The yacht club food was excellent. I think you will be very happy with the price difference. If at all possible upgrade to the yacht club. It includes your drinks and Wi-Fi and. THE THERMAL  spa!!!  Priority boarding and all that. Specially coffee your mini fridge stocked for free etc etc

  4. The offers for NCL of which there were 12 are all sold out except for $250 off a cruise for 250,000 points. Not sure if they’re adding anymore daily.   NCL charges $20 per person per day service charge and gives you a interior cabin, since you have to pay port charges and taxes and gratuities on drinks, etc. not near as good a deal as the MSC ones were.  Which there aren’t any at this point. Wish there were. The only thing I show for Royal Caribbean is onboard credit for gambling.

  5. The MýVegas, MSC Cruises were a much better deal. For example I got 30% off a yacht club suite which included drinks, Wi-Fi, and the thermospa. I agree when you consider the NCL 7 day service fee of $280 for 2+ the usual gratuity if you want the drink package and dining plus their increased daily service charge then this is not the great deal I thought it was. Plus they assign you an inside cabin and who knows how much it cost to upgrade to a balcony.  Regardless most sold out fast. The best one was for $750 off a cruise for 750,000 points (I have almost 6,000,000)

    sold out fast!

  6. They showed up finally and there were some good cruises to Alaska.  Other cruises left out of New York. There also were 3 day ones.  bottom line out of maybe 15 cruises there’s only three left and by the time you go to the myvegas games they’ll be sold out. what a disappointment. But you will be be able to see what you missed.

  7. I just got an email from myVEGAS slots saying they had awards for up to $750 off an NCL cruise.  But when I went to the Travel section, I did not see any listed plus I got a message saying I already claimed this reward. Have any of you who have done the discounted or free  myvegas  cruises received this?  I’ve only done MSC which were fantastic deals.

  9. I read to book the shows as soon as you get on the ship and some people are saying the app doesn’t work. So I have a question on the kiosks. I haven’t done it for a long time on NCL but on MSC you had to put in your room card. Do you have to do that on NCL or do you manually enter your cabin number? The reason I’m asking is I’d like to book my brothers cabin at the same time too as he will be boarding later.  Thanks for any responses. Are the kiosks only on one deck?  For the Escape.

  10. I understand you can book your entertainment once you’re on board. What I am confused about is if you can use the NCL app that has already been downloaded to your device?  Does the option to book change once you are onboard  to allow you to book the entertainment or is there a different app that you use?  Also, are you able to book the entertainment for your cabin and your relatives cabin at the same time or do they have to do it separately?

  11. I understand NCL meets  you when you get off the plane in the baggage area if you have transfers. My question is do they have separate buses for terminal A and B or do they direct you to someplace where both A and B terminals get on the bus?  I want to be on the same bus as my relatives. Another question if I take a different flight  instead of the NCL half-price flight will telling the NCL reps I came in on a different flight be recorded so  as to show me arriving but not on the flight originally booked?  My reason is I booked Southwest with points for direct flights, but then took the 1/2 price airfare with Delta who has a better record but it’s not a direct flight. Not sure what to do!

  12. Normally, when ordering the NCL free continental breakfast, I would tip three dollars. Now that the breakfast cost $5.95 plus 20% gratuity will YOU still tip the server?  At first I thought this was not such a great deal but the more I think about it I can get an excellent breakfast without the buffet hassle. My only other question is, does the main person always get charged for this?  I assume this charge covers both people in the cabin?  Well at least now I can have something to spend my $50 OBC on.

  13. Question on transfer from MCO Delta flight.  3 of us arrive at 9:55 a.m.  I arrive at 11:17 a.m.  we want to take same bus to cruise port. When we get to baggage what do we do?  Is there a person from NCL there in baggage?   Also I am platinum. Is there a special checkin line at cruise port?  Am I allowed to bring my brother/wife with different booking  in same line with me?  Don’t want to separate if possible. Thanks for any responses.

Not sure what you lose, but due to lifeboat capacity, it’s not always possible to add more people to the cabin. Meaning that if the bid is awarded, it will be based on 2 people. You may not be able to add the other 2, even if you are okay with losing 50% of their other cruise fare. Plus, I believe you’d also have to pay whatever fare/taxes/fees for them are involved in the new cabin.

Right I priced it out and saw what I’d have to pay for 4 in a haven 2 bedroom.  But the TA told me I was in penalty, but didn’t say exactly how much it would cost to cancel one of the cabins which would add to my uograde cost.

  15. If you cancel a cruise 63 days before sailing what 50% of your final payment do you lose?  Example everything you paid including gratuties on your beverage pkg, taxes, cruise next certificates etc. or just the cabin price?  Has anyone ever decided to upgrade to a haven for 4 after booking  2 mini suites?   This is probably not such a great idea in spite of third and fourth person “free”

  16. From what I read recently you can gift yourself $1000 via NCL which would be refundable onboard credit. That way you would get at least $1000 towards your. Credit card sign up bonus.  But it’s my understanding when you take that money from your account and put it in the slot machine they charge 3% which doesn’t make sense to me but that’s what I read.

This is correct.  I was able to use this method to both increase my World Points balance as well as avoid the 3% fee for charging directly to my room and "moving" the funds to the slot machine.  However, pre-purchasing OBC is limited to $1000.  Sigh, sadly I have yet to determine if this is a positive or a negative. 😐

Well I think this is a great idea. I do pay my credit card in full every month!  Wonder why I have never heard of this before.   Just so I don't get carried away on the slot machines.

  18. I was told when getting a quote from a NCL TA that two people could be flying from different airports and would still be able to get the second air free. Has anyone ever done this? I’m sure I read it had to be from the same airport.

The same TA also told me that an enhanced license was not good enough for a closed loop cruise, that you also had to provide a certified birth certificate. I read online that it was good enough but that doesn’t mean anything.

If anyone has encountered either situation, please respond. Would a passport card suffice instead of a certified birth certificate?
