  1. I get on the Silhouette next Friday, and have been so grateful for your enjoyable and very informative posts. New ship for me. I know that the evening before disembarkation can be so fraught, but if you could spare the time to post any news of the noro cleaning situation before you leave, I would be very grateful. If they delay boarding because of a special cleaning, the wait can be hot and tedious, and the lines long. No sense in arriving at my usual 10:30. Wonder if they push back the concierge lunch, or just cancel it altogether?

Here’s hoping Mike’s knee doesn’t hurt too much!

  2. Don't be spooked.....Your sailing on January 26 ( only 2 ships in port that day) will go as normal from Ft. Lauderdale. The convention center was a one time deal and the sailings from Miami passengers were notified on the change.

Hope you are correct. Just called my TA and he was under the impression that the rennovation to the terminal/pier was going to take quite awhile. All this for the new Edge.

  3. Yikes! Haven’t sailed Celebrity in over ten years. I just usually take a taxi from hotel to Ft Lauderdale pier and ship. Are you reporting that I might get shuttled to Miami? That I have to go to some sort of Convention Center and then get on a shuttle? You have me spooked! Sailing Jan. 26 on the Silhouette from FT Lauderdale. Hoping for clearer explanation ( and reassurance...). Grateful for and help you can give.

  4. You should not be in line too long for boarding but if your condition becomes more challenging just ask for wheelchair boarding.

If you get to your muster area and there is no where to sit find a member of staff and explain your issue. They will find a seat for you. Much as I have always been reluctant to ask for/accept support for limited mobility issues last year I accepted wheelchair airport and cruise boarding....not just better for me, better for my family too.

I do think for many people there is that stage of life when you are not ‘fully mobile’ but you don’t feel you quite meet the criteria for ‘disabled’.....One thing I have found out this year is if I ask for a little help then I can better enjoy my cruise...

Last winter I asked for wheelchair service through Atlanta. Was wonderful! Going to consider the same this year, although walking is really almost back to normal. Standing in one place in the heat, as in an outdoor line, is something I do worry about.

HAL muster outside is a long hot ordeal, and there are no places to sit. But indoors, out of sun should be doable.

Thanks so much for your very considerate reply.

  5. Thanks for the information, everyone!

The last 10 years I have sailed HAL, where you're crammed into a mob out on the promenade. Clausterphobic for many, hot, and a long time standing. Looking at some prices on a January sailng, and trying to decide if a Concierge Class price tag is worth it.

  6. Haven’t sailed Celebrity in at least 15 years, so have a few questions -wondering about Concierge Class on the Silhouette. In particular, what is meant by Priority Boarding. After several foot surgeries I find I can walk quite well, but standing for long periods is very uncomfortable. How much standing is involved during the safety muster?

  7. Thank you for sharing. I hadn't seen thise videos before. How wonderful to think that at least one line has decided that there is a market for ships with features intriguing to adults. Already plenty of options for families that want waterslides and rock climbing! Here's hoping they can manage entertainment that is also more sophisticated. Booked for Feb. 10.

  8. Almost didn't snag a sky suite for either of my preferred dates. There were no sky suites available on January 27, and a very small selection on February 10 (no deck 10 forward S2's). I decided I did not want that magic carpet gismo to pass in front of my suite (noise?). That brought the number available way down. Suggest that you book very soon!

  9. Makes no sense to merge these 2 threads.

One was a very old thread I started a long time ago - has nothing to do with retirement, but someone resurrected it recently.

The other thread is current info on Jimmy.

Someone reading the thread title would get confused when reading the first pages of posts!

    And I most certainly was!

  10. Hearing about the regimentation really makes me sad. So glad that my last HAL cruise two years ago (last year I was in a wheelchair for a long time, forbidden to put any weight on foot) featured Greg Galliano in the piano bar. He never let the assigned themes get in the way of more spontaneous fun. Will report after I return. (And then surgery on the other foot. Old age is not for whimps!)

  11. Enjoy the wonderful, intimate piano bar on the Nieuw Amsterdam while you can. After the April 2017 dry dock, say hello to Billboard Onboard's dueling pianos. We will never see talented entertainers like Jimmy Maddox or Paul C. McD playing in this new venue. I miss the old piano bars.

I know- that is why I decided on a 10-day spluge on the NA. Interesting to learn that a woman will be at the piano this time.

  12. I would tend to believe that this would not be a problem. Karen commonly uses a hair drier that has a higher wattage rating and has never had an issue.

Thanks. Wouldn't want to blow any circuits...
