  1. This might be a silly question but do the shops on board stay open while in port in Bermuda? Usually they close while in port but were they dock over night I wasn't sure if they would remain open the whole time?

Sent from my iPad using Forums

The shops remain closed. The casino on the ship is currently allowed to remain open.

  2. I read somewhere that a passenger sailing solo in a cabin gets double cruise points. Does anyone know if this is correct, and if so, when it went into effect?

It went into effect for all sailings after October 4, 2013. It does not apply to studio cabins. If you are booked as a solo in an SB or SI you will only get one point per night. If you are booked in a JS or above as a solo you will get three points per night.

  3. Really the only reason the second leg would be delayed for a day, is if the first leg didn't get back on time, and as you would be on the late arriving ship, no hotel will be needed.

I am thinking more along the lines of a NORO outbreak which would require that the ship return early and be deep cleaned or a mechanical problem which would require the cruise to be delayed or cancelled, both of which have happened in the past.

  4. I am doing my first B2B cruise on the Grandeur and am checking out my options for travel insurance since I will be flying in to Baltimore in January.

Does anyone know if the second leg of your B2B is delayed for more than one night, whether RCI picks up your hotel bill if you purchase the insurance they offer for both cruises of the B2B?

If the first or second cruise is cancelled, does RCI pay for any additional flight expenses you may incur?

  5. Yes, you should push it. We have 2 cruises booked in 2015 that we booked prior to the sale. Called and they gave us BOGOHO sale price. We still kept our D+ balcony discount. Easy Peasy. Call back and get someone else.

I upgraded my cabin on the Liberty during the sale and received a pro rated diamond discount from the C&A rep. Using a grandfathered NC certificate, I had booked a 10 ni on the Grandeur before the sale and they lowered the price to reflect the sale without any change to my discount, however I added another cruise to make it B2B and the discount I was given for that was pro rated.

It appears that if you were already booked prior to the sale, you keep your full C&A discount, but if you book during the sale, your discount is pro rated.

  6. We are sailing on the Oasis in late my with my 12-year-old niece (can't wait!).

Am looking for advice on cruising with a child when you aren't the legal guardian. I know that both of her parents have to write notarized letter to give her permission to travel with me, and to let me sign releases for her.

But those of you who have cruised with kids other than your own, what should we be aware of?

My niece is very athletic and active: she will want to rock climb, zip line, ice skate, flow ride and do everything active.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

    Double-check everything beforehand with RCI-

I booked a family cruise several weeks ago on which my 15 year old step-granddaughter, her biological mother who has full custody and my son will be sailing. At that time, RCI said nothing about documents for my s-g other than her passport.

However, when I went to have a price adjustment made via Crown and Anchor, they told me that in addition to my s-g's passport, RCI requires that her mother would have to bring to the pier at the very least these "original government issued documents:" my s-g's birth certificate (to show mother's name), my son and daughter-in-law's marriage certificate, court order showing custody(she has full custody but if she didn't, she would also have needed a notarized letter from her biological father allowing her to sail) and should she have returned to her maiden name after divorcing my s-g's biological father, her divorce papers. Essentially, they want a "legal" trail that connects the name of the person with the minor they are traveling with. This was not told to me when I made the initial booking.

They told me that if we had appeared at the port without these documents, my s-g would not have been allowed to board. Whether that is truly the case, or just a "by the book" requirement of RCI, I have no idea, but am not going to take the chance of my son and his family not being allowed to board.

  7.

    Read the fine print:

Offer is combinable with standard/full fare rates and Crown & Anchor discounts and benefits.

Offer not combinable with restricted rates (including, but not limited to, seniors, residents, military), Interline, Travel Agent Rates, and Net Rates.

Offer excludes Quantum and Anthem of the Seas and third and higher occupancy guests.

After the Offer Period, the Offer will be removed from the booking if the guest cancels and reinstates the booking, applies a fare change, or changes the ship or sail date of the booking; certain other changes to the booking may also result in removal of the Offer.

  8. Was the price adjust only on the sb?

As far as I know, the SB category on all Anthem sailings was the only one in error.

I was informed earlier today while talking with resolutions, that there are some problems with the website: some people opening their reservations in "My Cruises" were finding that their cruise had disappeared or that they had been unknowingly switched into a different cabin than the one they booked. As usual RCI "is working on it" but they did tell me not to open any of my cruises for the remainder of the day.

  9. Were you told this by a RCCL agent or by someone in C&A ?

Personally if it was me I would call C&A and ask to speak to a supervisor and request them to send written proof of this change in their policy for solo cruisers in Studio Balconies on Anthem.

What I do find rather odd though is, before now 2 people could book a SB on Quantum, now they cannot.

After speaking at length with C&A Supervisor "Mike," I told him that the following information needs to either be made more specific on the loyalty website or be "officially announced" as policy:

    1) Being able to get the full balcony discount for Quantum of the seas was a "glitch." The original intent was to only give the full discount if two people booked an SB cabin (the 200%). RCI decided to "honor" the error and allow full balcony discounts for those sailings.

2)As of August 2013, loyalty and revenue made sure the new "booking system" update would institute "pro-rated" C & A balcony discounts. Anyone traveling in an SB as a solo on all future Quantum sailings (China) and all Anthem sailings along with "other" specialty sailings and rates offered by Royal Caribbean will be given a "pro-rated" C&A discount. He offered as an example "a special no single supplement cruise."

    3) SB cabins in the Quantum Class of ships will be "initially" restricted to single occupancy. At a later date, they "may" be opened up for double occupancy. So, essentially, if you book an SB you will only be given 1/2 of your C&A discount for the sailing.

  10. How can they do one thing on Quantum but another on her sister ship ..that is so darn stupid

Very true. They are saying it has to do with the Oct 4th, 2013 change when RCI decided to give triple points to solo travelers in suite categories and double for other cabins (excluding SB and SI). They claim that all the bookings on Quantum Bayonne sailings for SB's were done before that change and that's why people got the full discount.

When it comes to money, RCI usually can find a rationale for whatever it needs to do.

  11. You only get half on SB. From Member Benefits Page:

This is a change from the SB's on the Quantum. We got full balcony discounts back when Quantum opened.

  12. Yes you get full C&A discount for a SB.

according to rci and the website I am only getting 1/2 my diamond balcony discount because I booked SB's --- they say that it is not being handled as it was for booking Quantum because once they started giving double points for sailings after Oct 4, 2013 to solo passengers they changed the policy. I politely reminded them that there is nothing on the website that reflects that change. they said sorry, but that's the way it is.
