  1. Alcohol as in hard liquer will be taken and subject to distruction on:

    NCL

    Carnival

    RCI

    Celebrity

    Holland America

    Princess

You can pre buy liquer from many of these lines. The prices on HA and Princess are reasonable. The price on NCL is best described as rediculous

Cunard will allow you to bring it on

I'm unsure about the policies of

    P&O

    P&o Australia

    Oceania

    Crystal

    Costa

    MCI

  2. The policies differ between cruise lines when it comes to hiring. RCL advertizes "officer" level positions that can be applied for. On the Princess site they clearly state that they offer entry level positions only and promote 100% from within. When it comes to certain speciality staff such as medical almost all the cruise lines contract this out to a specialist third party. After one tour of the infirmiry on the Golden Princess my wife now gets between 3 and 5 calls yearly asking if she would like to nurse on board.

  3. Boils down to what you are prepared to risk. Our next two cruises with air are roughly 30K and 50K respectivly. I don't gamble with that kind of money. I have a permanent travel and medical policy. Because the maximum cancellation value is not as high as what the next cruises will cost I paid an additional one time premium for each.

Although incorrectly identified as PS suites in this photo C750 and C751 are in fact Vista Suites (now S6) As can be clearly seen there are two beams on these balconies, one at each end. These two suites also have the smallest balconies of all Vistas on the ship at 103 sq ft. By comparison the Vistas on Emerald deck have a 126 sq ft balcony and those on Dolphin the largest at 180sq ft. The Vistas on Emerald and Dolphin have only one beam as well.

  5. 40 years of wearing a security pass around my neck and I said never again. Carry mine in a small credit card holder in my pocket with tipping money. If you do wear one make sure it is a breakaway. Saw one person slip, get the lanyard caught and peal a bunch of skin off their neck on a ship once. Also saw the village idiot at work a few years back get to close to the shredder and almost choke himself to death

  6. You have had one hell of a winter this year as has the east coast of Canada. Not sure when you are flying but so far this year literally 10's of thousands of flights were either cancelled or delayed in our two countries. Even a major thunder storm could delay your flight. The 1:50 flight won't cut it. Assume you land on time. 20 minutes to get off the plane. Another 20 to get your luggage. 10 minute wait for a cab. 15 min drive to the port. Total about an hour. You are already 20 minutes past the 90 minute cutoff for check in.

Book a flight that gives you at least 4 hours to play with, preferably more and even more preferably one that arrives the day before your cruise especially in winter.

  7. We do take longer cruises these days, in under three weeks we will leave for 31 days on board but I know I couldn't live on one. Don't think I would want to be away from friends and family for really long periods of time. Especially my grandbabies! Also I don't consider any house a home without a dog in it so that too would be a deal breaker. Other than waiting for the next one to arrive after loosing my last there has never been a period of more than two month over the past 40 years that we have not had a dog.

The other thing that would concern me is medical coverage and treatment especially. Not sure how it works in the US but here in Canada my provincial health care covers me for up to 6 months at a time out of country but only up to whatever a proceedure would cost here. Assume I run up a 50k bill somewhere but here the same treatment would have been 30k. I'm on the hook for 20k. I do carry extra medical insurance for travel via an annual policy but it only covers up to 31 consecutive days. As many 31 day trips as I want in a year but not longer.

Also the ships facilities are very limited. My wife has ER and ICU nursing background and has toured three ships infirmaries. There is no pharmacy if you need something other than the very basics. No surgical capability and basically what my wife calls "bandaid treatment" Longer cruises have big stretches of sea days. My next has an 8 day stretch. I don't want to have something happen when we are out of helocopter evacuation range.

As nice and exotic as it seems for me the cons outweigh the pros.

drinkvariety-ns.jpg (2:41 p.m. EST) -- Eight Princess Cruises ships have the line's all-inclusive beverage package available, which the line began trialing late last year. Three more are scheduled to receive the package by April 1.

The package includes all cocktails, spirits, beer and wine priced below $10, as well as nonalcoholic items like soda, mocktails and shakes. Also included are coffee, tea, espresso and specialty drinks. Additionally, it includes a 40 percent discount on bottled wines priced less than $100 and any food items usually included with the coffee card like crepes and gelato.

The package is available on cruises longer than seven days and costs $49 per day, per person, plus a 15 percent gratuity. All adults traveling in the same stateroom must purchase the package. Any minors traveling with adults who purchase the package also must purchase the Unlimited Soda & More package.

Ships that already have the package are: Star Princess, Sapphire Princess, Crown Princess, Coral Princess, Royal Princess, Island Princess, Emerald Princess and Ruby Princess. Grand Princess will receive the package March 5, Caribbean Princess will get it March 22 and Golden Princess will get it April 1. Regal Princess will have the package when it launches this May.

The program will not be offered on Dawn Princess, Diamond Princess, Ocean Princess, Pacific Princess, Sea Princess and Sun Princess.

As you can see some ships are not destined to ever get it at this point.

  9. Been on several cruises with large groups and never had a problem. Were some venues closed once or twice for private functions, yes. Did it impact me, no. If one bar is closed there are 10 others I can get a beer at. If you want to avoid groups all together than take longer cruises. I have found most big groups tend to take 7 day cruises and mainly to the Caribbean. The only time I have run into a group on a longer (3 week) cruise was Asia. There was a group of about 30 ex USAF pilots/aircrew who had all been shot down over Vietnam and done time in the "Hanoi Hilton"

  10. I'm sure it will drop. I have been watching the same thing for our upcoming 28 day cruise on the Golden in less than 3 weeks A couple of months ago there were still 12% of the cabins available including some very choice ones. As of yesterday there were only 4.5% vacant. While you might not get to 100% on the nose I'm sure more cabins will sell prior to sailing

  11. I second the comment above as I too purchased an Eco Drive on the ship when were in Asia. Looked high and low for a better price and the ship was cheaper by over 100 bucks over any other place I could find in person or on the net. Same thing went for the Eco Drive I bought the wife on our last cruise in Nov

  12. An offence comitted outside of Canada must have a similar or related crime under our criminal code to actually be considered a crime.

The big one is adultry. While considered a crime in the US military and some states it is not a crime in Canada. Therefore if you have been convicted of it in the US you are still elegable for admission to Canada as it is not a crime here. There are other offences as well but you should check with CSBA.

  13. Over 10 years and no other offences and you are deemed rehabilitated as allready discussed. However be straight up and honest with the CBSA agents if and when they ask you about your previous criminal history regardless of how long ago it was. Not only can lying to the agent be cause to bar you from admission it in itself is a crime in Canada that can net you jail time or a heavy fine.

  14. But stay in town unless it is on your ship. I lived in the Yukon for a number of years and was a frequent visitor to Skagway. The sleepy little town of 1000 or so is flat out overwelmed by cruise ships. With the exception of the tourist stuff on the main street there is very little to do in town itself. Best pub in town is the Red Onion but it seats 100 at best and can have long lineups to get in. If there is more than one ship in town on the day that you are there it's going to be a zoo!

  15. I mainly cruise simply to relax. On a month long cruise I catch up on a years worth or reading and probably two years worth of naps. I love sea days for this reason.

As far as food goes I say partially because I have tried many different foods on board or seen items I normally eat prepared in a different manner than I would have thought to try. I typically eat about 6 different times a day when cruising and I don't gain weight. Been 5'11'' and 150lbs for 40 years and don't see that changing.

I don't expect 5* Michelin Guide dining on any cruise line and a bad meal won't impact on my enjoyment of the cruise in the slightest. I have never seen a menu or buffet on any cruise that I have been on where I was unable to find something prepared to my liking.

  16. Although we will only cruise in aft suites it sure won't be on the Royal after reviewing those pictures. If I had to submit myself to a steady rain of soot the balcony would be useless and the trip a waste of good money. I do however hope you enjoy the trip.
