  1. Almost forgot to add a word about hangers. You can get free hangers at Macy's or Penney's-both the regular and pant hangers. I pack a few in the lid of the suitcases so we have enough-I try not to overpack but haven't reached that goal yet. Because the hangers were free I can leave them behind and have a little room for treasures found on the journey.

  2. On formal nights on Holland America men need to wear a jacket of some kind. One suitcase didn't make it from home in time for the cruise-of course it had the sports jacket. The dining room had a loaner for my husband-otherwise they wouldn't let him in.

We always take a medium sized laptop to download photos each night. Sometimes we can get good, free wifi in ports so we grab emails then.

Be sure to pack at least one outfit for each person in each suitcase. If one bag goes astray (as above) no one person is out their entire wardrobe. And make sure to pack the kids' swimsuits in a carry-on that you take onto the ship. Often you won't get your luggage that you leave with the porters until late afternoon or evening and the kids may want the pool asap. Have fun!

  3. If this is the Homewood Suites near the airport it is a fairly nice place-nothing posh but very decent. We've stayed there twice. You get a nice breakfast in the morning-the usual make it yourself waffles, fruit, something hot and drinks. Evenings during the week have the light supper meal. You also have the small kitchen area in your room. I don't remember a lot of places to shop or eat nearby but I think their shuttle will go to nearby spots.

  4. There is a USPS very close to the port, about a mile from the SR 84 port entrance:2801 S FEDERAL HWY

    FORT LAUDERDALE, FL 33316-9998

There is an Office Depot a few blocks from the Eisenhower Blvd port entrance on SE 17th St in Southport Shopping Center.

There is a Total Wine and a Publix in Harbor Shops behind Embassy Suites on SE 17th St, across the street from Office Depot.

Thanks for the information. Sounds like a fairly easy walk is only a few blocks to Office Depot.

  5. I'm looking for a post office/mailing point (Office Depot?) close to Port Everglades. We are on a B2B and would like to mail a box of sports equipment not needed for the 2nd half of the trip. Any ideas of where and how to get there? Of course if there's a grocery for wine nearby that will be good too.

    Thanks, Susie
