  1. Christmas ornament collector here. Have not been to those ports so can't recommend a Christmas shop but will share something I do when I cannot find a Christmas shop.

I buy keychains as a substitute because most stores have loads of them. I have a Liberty Bell keychain that I picked up in Philadelphia. In Denmark I found a nice one with the flag and the Little Mermaid. I have  keychain from most of the Princess ships I have been on that either has the Ship or Medallion with the name and outline of the ship. I have one from St Petersburg. And, yes, I do hang them on my tree. I have a little ship in a bottle from Victoria. My guideline is that I want something that is obviously from a specific location, allows a way to attach a hook or ribbon, and isn't too heavy.

    Have fun shopping.😁

  2. I have issues with eating spicy (bell pepper/jalapeno) foods. Last Fall we were on the Coral and had a complimentary dinner on the first night and I was worried about what to do. We stopped by the restaurant when we boarded and talked to the manager at the Bayou. They were more than happy to fix my filet mignon without any spices, to provide a baked potato, a salad without peppers and with Ranch dressing.

  3. Crown Princess does not "become Medallion" until 7/24/19 so they are probably concentrating on the folks who will sail then.

My notice to do something about medallions for my August cruise came through my cruise personalizer. The check-in part on the menu turned into a medallion shortly before final payment. There were then instructions on what to do - there's a video to help.  This notice may not show up until 60-75 days (~ after final payment) out from your sailing. You will then need to download the ocean ready app from Google or Apple, fill in info, scan passports, upload security pix, etc. When you have made the app totally happy (easy experience for some, bigger challenge for others as software is still quirky), you can order your medallions. They will be shipped to you 2-4 weeks before sailing.

If you are unable to make the app happy, do not despair as the medallions can be picked up at the port or you can contact the Navigator help line (1-844-525-0942, 0500-2100 PDT Monday - Friday and 0600-1800 Saturday and Sunday) and see if they can fix it for you.

  4. People talked about their individual circle being all green and then part of it turning red. Mine was changing color intermittently but it was changing to part yellow, not red, on my Samsung 7. And the docs were changing to yellow even though they were still there.

In a combination of using ocean.com and the phone, I now have a medallion order # instead of it telling me I would have to pick up at the pier because it was too close to my sailing, my ship had sailed, or the carrier could not deliver to my location. As mentioned before, my cruise is 8/9 and I live in a large in Virginia. 😄

  5. The value of time to any one person is even more subjective than opinions on the quality of the food on board.

Any cruiser has the option to ignore the capability and let Princess deal with it at check-in. We are still required to fill in our cruise personalizer in advance and provide passport info if needed for the cruise to be able to print out a boarding pass and luggage pass. (I imagine there is a way around that but I'm guessing it is a royal PIA.) You will still be issued a medallion.

In that scenario, there is no cost benefit analysis because you didn't have to do anything you haven't been doing all along. Then you can see for yourself if the Medallion provides any benefits.

Yes, I am one of those who has been frustrated by this system and its current level of quirkiness. I have tried to work with this software on multiple platforms. I have made it into a game to beat the software. It remains to be seen if I have won but I do now have an order # for my medallions.

The friendly, but not necessarily quickly responsive, folks at the help line are surprised when someone calls who has taken the time to document what steps they have followed, using which platform, and which version of the software. It makes it easier for them to diagnose the problem and fix it.

Not if, but when, they get this up and running smoothly (and yes, it does seem to be taking way too long), many will be amazed at how well it can work.

    • Thanks 1
  6. Thanks PMGS247 for the insight about having the PBP with the Medallion. We also have the sip n sail on our upcoming cruise and I think I might find it annoying to be constantly taking the wristband on and off. I can just see my DH leaving his behind somewhere. At least, we would be able to locate it by looking for shipmate.😁

I am assuming that the Princess wristband is a buckle type of closure vice a stretch piece in the back.

  7. A lot of people have been turned off by the $6 shipping charge for the Princess band. Given the size and style of the packaging for the Medallion itself, it seems a little much to charge that rather than add the band to the box for free.

That said, I will wait and get one on the ship. Mine will come with the free lanyard. (She says that hopefully.) With all the hassle of even ordering the medallion that some of us have been through, I would hate to buy something not designed for the medallion and end up losing it.

Although, ordering something from Amazon with Prime shipping would mean maybe this would finally be done.

  8. No, you do not get a complimentary Ultimate Balcony Dinner for being in a full suite. You do get a complimentary specialty restaurant (Crown Grill/Sabatini/other depending on ship) on the first night of your cruise.

Yes, I know this for sure. Perhaps your TA gave you one last time or DH is remembering the specialty restaurant dinner.

  9. You both mentioned your Ocean Ready turning red. What platform are you seeing this on? My Ocean Ready turns yellow (always for the documents) -- and then back to green later-- even though I have been able to print my Ocean Ready passes. I am working on an Android phone.

I do also have an open ticket with the Navigator folks as Medallion does not request a shipping address from me and says I must pick up my Medallions at the port.

I was told earlier this week by one of the Ocean Navigators that all of this stuff works only on connected phones and tablets.

Clearly a couple of the group have figured out where the keys to the kingdom are located.

I understand that the goal of Princess is to eventually migrate all of this to other platforms.

    Hope so!

Clearly, their definition of works and mine are not in the same universe. My Android/Samsung phone cannot figure from one minute to the next if I have completed something and also does not understand that 9 August is not too soon to be able to send out my medallions, nor has my cruise on  9 August already started, and I certainly do not live in an area where the carrier cannot deliver. Makes it a little difficult to trust what anyone says.

This software was first released in 2017 ( per Google) and if my people had had these software problems after all this time, we would have lost our government contract, and probably been sued.

Sorry, but real life is real life and there is a problem somewhere, be it the requirements definition, the implementation, or the testing and someone is having pipe dreams. Princess/Carnival, get it together -- you are paying whoever created/maintains this and it does not seem to be coming together and it is more than frustrating for your customers who cannot get a straight answer or directions on what we should be doing.

In addition, I am tired of hearing that I have tried to do this too early when my Personalizer has directed me to do this and I am tired of reading things about this great and wonderful new technology that Carnival has created that is driving us crazy.

  11. Have logged in on an Android phone several times today without a message. Also have logged in on my laptop to ocean.com

Of course, each time my travel docs switch from done to not done and back again even though I can see them.

Only other thing I noticed is that the software is a newer version than I originally downloaded.

  12. The medallion does not cost anything and will come with a free lanyard or some other "attacher".  The medallion and its free lanyard/attacher will be shipped to you for free or can be picked up at the port.

If you want, you can purchase a bracelet, a necklace and/or various other pretties when you order your medallion and they will charge for shipping the pretties. You can also buy the pretties on the ship. There is an inexpensive Fitbit bracelet available on Amazon that a number of folks have ordered to hold their medallion.

voljeep types faster than I do.😄

Absolutely!! Every pax has his/her own unique code. For anyone you want to "track", input their unique code into the OC app and they will appear. They don't even have to be a part of your cruise folio. If you and a total stranger become close and wish to be able to "track" (I sure don't like that word in the present context) one another, just exchange unique codes and your done.

Now if they have your unique code and you change your mind.......I don't know what the solution to that might be!

And Welcome to Cruise Critic!! 😀

Are you referring to the PIN we had to put in as the unique code? They gave you the option of using the same pin for your whole group and if you need that PIN to find someone, I, for one, will need to go back in and change that.

  14. Can anyone tell me what hours the help line is staffed? I just called the 1-844-525-0942 number (not expecting it to be open but assuming they would tell me their hours).

The number is answered "Thank you for calling. Our department is currently closed." And it ended the call.  Notice that the recording does not even identify who you have reached.

WOW! If I was underwhelmed by the Get Ocean Ready experience, this just may have topped it.

Good thing this system is not responsible for weapons control or life support.

Sorry about the attitude. Guess I should have had my cup of tea first. 😒

  15. You will probably get a more informed answer if you give an example. Princess has red wines that go from $30+ a bottle to $5300 a bottle.

Scotch questions would be equally difficult to answer - are you looking for a single malt, a blend, from particular area, such as Speyside, or …...

Not trying to be grumpy but don't know quite how to help you without more information.

  16. So, I am 82 days out, I am ocean ready with lovely green circles, I live in the United States (and not a rural area) and get this message now:

Your OceanMedallions and accessories will be available at your port of embarkation. Home delivery is not available because either there is insufficient time to deliver the order before your voyage, the voyage has started, or because the carrier cannot deliver to the posted address.

82 days to go so not started and I live near Richmond, Virginia. Amazon finds me more than once a week for deliveries.

    Say WHAT?????

  17. In one of the Medallion threads (can't seem to find where I read it), someone was saying that each person needed a separate email address and login if they each wanted to use the functions on their own phone while onboard. I know I can load all the data from a single phone and email as I have gotten that far.

Can anyone comment on whether this is true? Anybody remember seeing this? (Don't even know if I will use the phone for anything but it is more likely this next cruise as I have unlimited internet.)
