  1. I was just on the Silversea Explorer and was having dinner with one of the expedition staff when he told us about this accident. He said that the zodiac driver was very experienced and was, actually, the expedition leader. It's very sad and scary.
  2. Thank you for this information. Our documents online don't list any of this and our emailed documents state charter information will be listed at the end of this document but it wasn't. Our return is Nov. 25 and it's probably the same as yours.
  3. We leave Friday and cruise from Valparaiso to Puerto Williams. There is nothing in our emailed documents or in MySilversea about the charter back to Santiago. Transfers and a hotel are listed. Since it is the return I'm not going to worry about it. My documents just list the airline schedule and our Covid proofs.
  4. We leave Nov. 11 and SS ticketed us on AA Sept. 16 (actual ticket numbers).
  5. Yes it showed up yesterday under details. Before that it said Simply Hotel. So not until 29 days out.
  6. I'm on the Explorer and it's Mandarin Oriental both pre and post (Nov. 12 and 25). It just showed up today under My Silversea.
  7. Just received our hotel for Nov. 12, 2022 and it is the Mandarin Oriental in Santiago.
  8. We did the Viking Bordeaux cruise September 10. Crew all wore masks, although often under the nose. Hardly any passengers wore masks. I came home and tested positive for Covid on Sept. 18. They never mentioned if anyone had tested positive and we just never thought about it. I was not masked except for travel days. I did not notice any coughing or sniffling so who knows where I got it. I hope that I didn't give it to anyone as I felt sick on Friday so stayed in my cabin and slept all day and night. Saturday I wore a mask and traveled home and tested Sunday morning. Morally I know that I should have tested Friday and gone into quarantine but I wanted to go home. It was wrong but I made that choice as I would guess others do as well.
  9. I'm sorry to have been totally misunderstood. We are not going to Antarctica (done that previously). I was asking about boots for Valparaiso to Puerto Williams. FauxNom has done that trip and said that there are no wet landings. I read through the shore excursions and none are mentioned. I was just double checking but somehow the whole thing turned into me being too cheap to rent boots. That wasn't the intent. Let's move on.
  10. Scottjeanne, Was this between Valparaiso and Puerto Williams? Or was this Antarctica? Now I'm confused about what to do.
  11. Hi JP and FauxNom. That was an amazing trip and our last Silversea (2017). We did do the Antarctic and Arctic quite a while ago. They were among our first Silversea expeditions. Thanks FauxNom. I think that we'll forgo the boots and skip the wet landings if there are any. My husband has a pair that he bought for an Alaska trip last spring so maybe he'll pack his. Mine got ripped on the hiking so I left them behind.
  12. I know that some of you have taken this cruise pre-Covid. We rolled over our cruises to go this November and have received no information whatsoever from Silversea about Covid restrictions or anything. I can look most of it up myself. However on the Silversea site I found that we get the free parkas and need boots. I was very surprised that there will be cold, wet landings. If you took this cruise in the past did you get parkas and need boots? I'll take the free parka but the boots are $90 to rent which I think is high. When we went to Antarctica and to the Arctic the boots were onboard and were free. So my question is are there boots onboard or should I buy a pair to bring with me (or I might rent them if needed). Thank you for sharing.
  13. I think 4 of 7 which was a lot. It's on the itinerary but I guess that we didn't catch it. Plus the tide is huge so we had a lower level balcony with a view of the wall and storm sewer distribution during the day. It was still a lovely trip (I came home with Covid to top it off!).
  14. We did this cruise a few weeks ago but on Viking. The dock in Pauillac is under some construction so no docking was allowed there and we bussed to the winery that was the scheduled visit and dinner. So it was twice as long on the bus as it should have been. However I received a letter from Viking weeks in advance explaining this matter. We did stay docked in Bordeaux (a fun, beautiful city) for most of the trip but that was on the itinerary.
  15. We are on the Explorer Nov. 13 arriving the day before and our booking still doesn't say the name of the hotel in Santiago. They must have space booked somewhere.
  16. Thank you all for the "funnies". I save them for the last thing that I read each morning (after the news reports) and laugh out loud. It's a pleasure.
  17. No one asked for our cards either but I came home with Covid!
  18. I stressed myself out for nothing. My travel agent got the flights switched to business class via Dallas and it is a perfect schedule for now. I jumped the gun! Thank you for all of the advice and suggestions. I also check it at least weekly as I have the record locator. We have always done our own air, hotel, transfers in the past but this seemed simpler just in case the cruise gets cancelled due to Covid or any other reason. Since they bought the Endeavor this will be the last cruise (November) until March for the Explorer so perhaps it will get cancelled. Much relief.
  19. Thank you for the responses, positive and not. I'll wait for the response from my TA. I'm assuming that I can get my business class payment refunded and switch to coach. Unfortunately, I fly from STL and the via MIA option includes a 13 hour layover in MIA so I need to go through DFW on AA or fly DL which SS refused originally. I'll give it a week and see what SS says. I like what Kimanjo says. I'll report back after I get this resolved one way or the other in case it happens to others.
  20. Silversea has had my money since 2019 and finally a cruise to go this November on the Explorer to complete our Chile travel. All looks fine on mysilversea but when I checked my flights with AA they have been changed to the following day which means we don't get the pre-hotel plus our chance of missing the cruise increases. I have sent a message to my travel agent but does anyone have any other suggestions? The flights on my original booking are sold out on AA for business class so I'm assuming that they were able to sell them since SS hasn't paid yet. I've always done my own air but thought that with Covid it would be safer to do everything through SS since I'll need transfers to Valparaiso. Thanks for any ideas other than just cancel the whole thing and collect my originally paid money minus the insurance.
  21. We're scheduled for Valparaiso to Puerto Williams in November 2022 on the Explorer. That would be the last sailing before it starts up again in March. What will the ship and crew do for 4 months?
  22. We're on the Explorer in South America in November 2022. I wonder if that will be changed to the Edeavour? Or will it simply be cancelled? Time will tell.
  23. On Viking once we saw a man in a wheelchair and the crew actually lifted him up and down the stairs when docking or having to go through another boat when rafting. It looked difficult but doable. It probably depends on the staff?
