Wow. Is that meant to be irony, sarcasm, or just plain insulting? Personally, I never find misogyny funny - perhaps that's because I've heard enough of it to last a life time.
It is based on the development of the action which I witnessed - even at our table.
Most Gentlemen didn't want to take action. But "Darling, you have to do something. Lizz' husband is a lawyer and he said that we are entitled some compensation!" And then this journalist went around pretending to interview but clearly lead the group together and in a way to produce some spectacular situation. _This_ is the full story.
Neither the 70 year old lady who planned to meet her penpal from 1946 first time in her life nor the family carrying xmas gifts to meet their friend nor we or anybody else with a serious interest to get to A'dam was involved in this riot. It was only the "shoppers" and "East Enders".
Merry Xmas to all.

I wasn't aboard so along with others I really shouldn't comment, but it does seem the communications could have been much better handled.
We have received any neccessary information in due time. This is all a lot of nonsense from people who have the time to watch afternoon tv learning about the journalists understanding of consumer rights. The ship was full of people who certainly did not know how to behave in public and in a more educated society. Some backstreet barristers, teachers and a tabloid journalist have pushed the hyteric wives forward and they have forced their husbands to stand up, probably against their own will.

I don't know whether you have ever sailed with Christopher Rynd in command, he takes breakfast most mornings in the buffet and then wanders around the bulk of the ship talking to passengers. He is always approachable and very communicative.
But not for 2.100 passengers at the same time.
-
Balf, how will you make a Cunard Captain available for fair discussion simultanious with 2.100 passengers?
Btw: PanAm doesn't exist anymore - and certsinly not the flight captain arrange fir an accomodation.
-
Do they have petrol on a Cunard ship?
David.
I can't tell if it was petrol, gasoil or bunker oil. To it me all smells bad. BA used the golden A319 to get us to Hamburg - with the lovely Hannah Radcliffe:rolleyes:
-
In the case that BA will provide a skiff with 2 rowers...
-
This?
Hard to believe, this bit is: "They stormed the reception desk and clapped and chanted, ‘We want the captain’ demanding to know what was going on."
There were not all 2.000 unhappy passengers, probably some 200 barristers only.
-
Is there still the smell of petrol? I hate the smell of petrol on a ship
skiffs don't smell of petrol:D

Do you know what repairs?
Works on the electrical system. Still no details.
-
A good reason to include gratuities into the price??
Absolutely.
We had again a very good dinner last night served by a highly motivated team.
Airport transfer is scheduled for 08:15.

please share that story.

I haven't noticed any close to riot. Few obviously very simple minded people used their lessons on afternoon tv to complain in order to make some money. 2.000 passengers did not complain, some of the missing out important meetings or activities at Amsterdam.
It's a cruise - and we are still on. It is not the ferry to Amsterdam. You better take a train or plane next time.
-
We were told Rotterdam was full. If you are correct, shame they cut costs on the thrusters, after all they would have planned where they would be sailing in advance.....
The power of thrusters is physically limited. It is not a matter of money.
-
Rayy66 - any update for us ?
It's a cruize - destination is the homeport. We will dock today 8:30pm. Embarkation will be tomorrow morning as scheduled.
Everything is OK on board.
I feel sorry for all those passengers having had to meet friends at Amsterdam - as I planned. But I accept the master's decision not only because _he_ decided. He had good reason to do so. The thrusters wouldn't have enough power to control the ship in the Ijmuiden locks nor in the berths of Rotterdam or Zeebruegge.
Casino will be shut tonight. 75$OBC are returned per adult.
Next year at Amsterdam?
-
Do you know what repairs?
No information available. But Casino area smells of petrol...
-
QE will return to So'ton on monday evening in order to receive some repairs scheduled originally for Amsterdam.

Majorities can be wrong. Are you referring to 'moral majorities'?
-
And does that mean they have put aside plans to get rid of the Chart Room (among my favorite public spaces) on QV?
QV doesn't have a BC.

Cunardaddict, I take it you have been to Amsterdam for New Year - any tips for us please - like can you see the fireworks from the ship, etc ?
Have a great cruise aboard QE.
Fireworks are performend by many citizens. The berth where you will be gives you one the best views. Have look on sunday by marinetraffic.

There's a US idiom about "the one who wears the pants (trousers) in the family" so it was understood here.
Very well.

You seem not to have the slightest idea of a ship's operation. The Daily Programme had been distributed by 4pm on Saturday, when the first announcement was made that their may be the chance not to get to A'dam. The announcement included the clear information that a decision will be made not earlier as by Sunday 3.30am when reaching Ijmuiden Pilot Pickup to assess the weather situation.
On Sunday 10:00 the revised Daily Programme was available for every passengers, announcements had already been made at 8:30 am.
I have not followed the tv broadcast and cannot comment on information broadcsted on tv.
What exactly was it that you missed?
