  1. I believe it is $49.95 per cabin, but not sure....we get it for free because we are Platinum, so I never have looked.

Hmm...$100 for our family in that case...not sure if it's worth it and don't think DH will go for it. The priority embarkation and debarkation sound good to me, but we are traveling with other family members to and from the ship and we like that group "Welcome Aboard" photo, so I would also have to convince 2 other cabins worth of people to do it. For dining reservations, we decided we're not going to the steakhouse and we did the early seating dinner. We don't go to a port with a tender either...we're going to St. Thomas, San Juan and Grand Turk. So yeah, probably not fit for our situation.

  2. Faster to the Fun:

    cost is per cabin

    Includes priority embarkation and debarkation

    Include priority guest services line

    Prioity dining times

    Prioity tendor (leaving)

    Priority luggage (to the room)

Wow this sounds great. Wondering if it will be worth it. We have 2 connecting cabins. Do you know approximately the price per cabin? We have to double that cost.

  3. I haven't cruised with Carnival in 13 years...we have gone on a few cruises with NCL, and they have allowed us to wait in the cabin as an option on the last morning before disembarking. What is Carnival's procedure for disembarkation on the last morning? We don't carry off all our luggage because there is too much of it (we have small children). The way I remember it, we had to go to a specific lounge with the carry-on luggage and wait a while before our luggage tag color was called. Forgive me if this sounds ancient, it's been a while since I've been on Carnival!

  4. We were on the Carnival Pride several years ago and had two cabins just slightly beyond the entrance to the casino on Deck 6. If I had been aware of the one man band who could not sing, just yell and played till all hours of the night (at least 3 am), I would have changed cabins before I cruised. It was horrible. Talk about wanting to jump ship. Carnival credited us $150 per cabin, but never never again. I will always be sandwiched between two cabins. Now I do a lot of research before I select my cabin.

So you were on the same deck as the casino? We are not on the same level, but we are on the deck right above, and our cabin is right above the casino.

On one cruise with NCL in 2002, we were on the Norwegian Sea (smaller ship) and out cabin ended up being a few doors down from the kids' camp. This was before we had kids, but I would still not stay near the kids' camp with all the noise going on during the day and even sometimes late at night for kids that were there for late night hours. Since then I make sure we are not close to the kids' area although on the newer ships I don't see many cabins that are too close by.

  5. We're going on the Splendor on July 20th and we have 2 connecting cabins on deck 6, right above the casino. For those with experience staying on this deck (or above the casino in general), does it get very noisy at night? The only other time I was near a casino on a ship was in 1990 on Royal Caribbean's Nordic Prince (I was only 13 at the time) and our cabin was right below the casino...there was no noise from the casino at all and I'm hoping this will be the same.

  6. Sounds great! We're on the Jewel this Saturday too, and planning to eat lunch in the MDR. I have to speak to the restaurant manager anyway when we board, because of DS6's shellfish allergy (even though we submitted a form to NCL a couple of months ago, this is procedure for food allergies). We will just stay there are have lunch without fighting the crowds at the buffet! ;)

  7. Being that I eat too much bread before ordering my meal, drink way too many frozen sweet drinks, and eat too much dessert and danish, I don't wanna know how many calories I truly consume per day on a cruise. Over 3500? Probably, when all is said and done.

I gain a pound per day on a cruise. I always gain 7 pounds on 7-night cruises. It's the bread, the danish, the desserts, the frozen drinks, etc. that do it to me. I don't eat that way at home. I do exercise though, and still gain the weight!

For me, a cruise is not a time to watch what I eat. I only go every other year or so, and I am enjoying myself to the fullest when I go! I don't deprive myself of anything, and when I get home I just go back to eating healthy and the weight comes right off. My husband, on the other hand, gained 5 pounds on his first cruise with us (5-night cruise). We told him that it would come off within a week of coming home. Well he weighed himself a week later and had gained another 5 pounds! I guess he continued to eat the same amount when he came home! He eventually lost it though, and even some more. :)

  8. My sister and I decided to send my parents on a cruise to Bermuda in July 1998, right after their 25th anniversary. They fell in love with cruising when they first took us to Bermuda on Royal Caribbean's Nordic Prince (now long gone) in July 1990 and they became addicted immediately, as did we. So we sent them on the same itinerary on Royal Caribbean's Song of America (also long gone now) July 1998. We were going to arrange with my dad's boss for him to have that week off, as we were going to surprise them on July 1st (their actual anniversary) but the cruise was leaving on July 5th or something. That way they would have still had a few days to pack and stuff.

Well, the November before their anniversary, things were already underway and their cruise had been booked a few months before. I was down in Maryland at school (University of MD) and my sister was at home going to COlumbia University for grad school. My parents' friends had come over one night and their 25th anniversary was going to be 2 months after my parents'. They started talking about booking a Bermuda cruise in July 1998 to celebrate their silver anniversaries together! Naturally my sister was shocked and didn't know what to do. She called me in Maryland and asked if it was ok with me if she told them about the anniversary cruise. She said she would do it while I was on the phone. I said yes, to avoid any trouble my parents might have had if they would have booked something else. So she told them with me right there on the phone. They were so surprised and overjoyed. My mother couldn't stop thanking me and my sister.

They went on their cruise and had a blast. They met a very nice couple from England and did some shore excursions with them in Bermuda. My parents said that the only thing that was missing on that cruise was me and my sister. We thought that was sweet and very touching of course!

It was so nice to do this for my parents. They have done so much for us over the years and have been there for us, that we felt they deserved this ten times over and then some!

  9. First off, I always prefer breakfast in the dining room. And lunch and dinner...love being served on vacation! That being said, I love eggs benedict on a cruise! Also, the croissants are the second best in the world (the best are actually in France). I also like to try the breakfast special, and my favorite one so far is huevos rancheros. Can't beat the lox and bagels too!
