  1. Let me add - my cousin and his daughter were with us for a few days. When we picked them up at the airport and got onto the highway I wanted to know what that sickly disgusting smell was in my car. It was her with her e-cig in the back seat. I told her to put it out -turn it off - whatever and not to do it again. She tried again in my house and I told her the smell was awful and 0 sickly sweet - I don't think e-cigs are of any benefit at all. It just makes smokers think they're doing something

Well, that is bad. Must be a very cheap bad e-cig or one of those funky flavored ones. I have smelled a few that I noticed, wasn't as bad as you have described.

The ones I see being used are expensive and really are odor free.

I have a few friends who have quit real cigs with their e-cig and now don't use anything at all. It is all about breaking the habit.

    Thanks for your comments!

  2. But it does bother people. Lots of people. I don't just take someones word that the "vapor" is harmless. Very few studies at all. The Jury is still out on E-cigs.

Royal Caribbean must think it bothers people or hasn't been studied enough either. If it was harmless they would let people smoke E-cigs on their balcony.

I did not twist anything. I am not a prude. I have many hobbies and a great life. I can't help it if you don't like facts.

Facts?? Show me some facts and we can discuss them.

Right....you have none, and still continue to further your uneducated fight against the unknown.

I know quite a few people who use the e-cigs. they are always getting positive feedback from non smokers about how totally un-noticeable they are. In fact, most are praised about how pleasant they are compared to actually smoking. They are an aid to help quit smoking. I have never heard one person say that they bothered them, except you, and you have no facts. What could it possibly be that bothers you about them? Where are these "lots of people" you say are bothered?

You have no idea why Royal does not allow them, and no idea how prude you sound. Facts is facts. I am done here.

    Live and let live.

  3. We booked Allure this past Saturday thru a TA and paid in full for a May 5th cruise; it listed as 'Admiral Cruise Reservation' on our cc statement as well while the charge was pending, but it switched to Royal once the actual charge was posted.

Since our reservation showed up on the RCL site almost immediately, and we were able to book shows, fill out our info, etc. I'm sure everything is just fine (in fact, I reserved Dragons Breath zip line for my kids yesterday and the pending charge shows 'Admiral' again!).

    Deleted....outdated

  4. This is why many communities are looking into banning e-cigs in many public places. That "vapor" isn't something I want to be breathing in. Pretty naive to pretend that vapor is nothing.

Unreal how you twisted it all up to meet your criteria of prudeness. Some folks here need to find a hobby or something and get a life!

They were explaining how it did not bother anybody, geeez

  5. I have never taken a power strip with me, but am taking one on the Oasis as

I have read that apparently the outlet is in a hard to reach spot in the cabin.

I am packing it in my carry on, so if they take it from me at check in, at least

I won't have to worry about my checked bag with my clothes in it hitting the

    "naughty room".

I don't like having to go down there!! :(

Oasis outlets have been moved to the top corner of the desk area. No more reaching under for the outlet. There are 4 outlets available here. Nice that they listened, and corrected this issue.

Duct tape is one of those things that you hope to NOT use. Guarantee you'll need it if you don't bring it!

  6. Best advice I could give is to book the first available aqua theatre show in case the weather causes it to be postponed you will be rescheduled with a chance to still see it. We didn't miss much on our Oasis trip and we still had open time slots for "free time". I thought it was nice to be able to reserve the things we wanted to do in advance. I made a spreadsheet with all scheduled things listed. As I said, we didn't miss much (parades-belly flop contest-other small activities) we did all the things we wanted to do (Hairspray-Oasis of dreams-comedy show-headliner show-other aqua theatre shows-cupcake decorating-two parties -zip line- flow rider- etc.).

We also left the ship at each port for fun excursions. No problem at all with doing these things and we still had time for balcony breakfast and ship exploring and even casino.

We left the ship wanting to do it all again!

    Our answer....book Allure!

That way we can do it all again but with a little variety too. Have a great cruise!

  7. We just returned from allure eastern route and they as I previously stated said nothing as we boarded ship. They did end up shortening our port time in Nassau and st. Thomas. They told us once at sea later on. I guess they wanted to make sure we could not tell anyone on CC (LOL)

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Forums mobile app

    How was your trip?

Did the adjusted port times cause you any problems?

Were you able to get any info about the problem/possible fix?

  8. What does this have to do with the subject matter :confused:

That post is talking about being delayed...

    Here is an excerpt:

"ADVICE: You have an early flight? Don't buy expensive things or spend a lot of money on-board. You will be detained and screened. If the list is long and you happen to be behind a few folks, you will have to wait a while and you may miss your flight. Declare everything and you still have to wait to have your audience with the agent. It doesn't matter."

  9. Since the third pod is only used in emergency situations, and it works perfectly now, I seriously doubt that they will be cancelling cruises up until the scheduled drydock.

There would have to be a catastrophic failure of the pod resulting in it being completely unusable for them to cancel cruises.

This reminds me of my A/C compressor on my car. My car has over 150,000 miles on it, and the A/C compressor bearings are going. They are noisy and when I use the A/C I can hear the noise in the car. Now it has been this way for over 50,000 miles since I now use the A/C sparingly. I use it when it is so hot that I must turn it on, but most of the time, I leave the A/C switch off.

Someday the bearings will fail in my car, but right now they still are fine. This is the same thing with the pod. Someday the bearings will show more of a sign of failure and will not function correctly, but for now they are fine.

    Apples and fruitcake......

  10. I'm now going to disagree with premise that slowing the ship makes the ship less stable. Nothing could be further from the truth, in fact the faster a ship travels the less stable it is. That's why sea going vessels go slower in bad weather & rough seas.

Depending on conditions you are correct. Think of it this way, if you are floating, you are more affected by surrounding waves than if you are moving forward. That is why I said correct speed will overcome certain surrounding conditions. That said, Allure does not need full speed capability to be stable. It is why I said that the reduced speed is probably not enough to cause unstability. We were on Oasis last May in some storms, she was very stable without slowing down. She could have slowed some and not become any more unstable. Had she slowed to a crawl we would have felt her move more with the rough seas.

Ships slow down in rough seas for various reasons. First and foremost is the unpredicability of said rough seas. It stresses the ship more to try and maintain high speeds in rough seas. Their cargo takes more of a beating at higher speeds in rough seas. It burns more fuel to try and maintain higher speeds in rough seas. Etc. etc. etc.

  11. Reedl I appreciate your explaination of your comments about stability, and the validity of the info. Others have been told things from ships officers also and there is definately a problem.

I can only say that I've been on the water in many types of vessels and speed definately affects stabilty. the slower the vessel goes the more it will be affected by the surrounding conditions. With the correct speed a vessel can overcome adverse conditions to a certain degree.

If the ship can maintain it's "normal" cruising speed then there would be no affect on it's stability. If the ship is being forced to slow down then it's stability is affected. Maybe only slightly, because they have only slowed slightly, but it will still be affected. Doesn't matter how many pods are used....speed affects stability.

Also, if they cannot extend the stabilizers, because of the drag they cause, then it will definately affect the stability. I would think the remaining two azipods would have enough tourque to operate with the stabilizers extended. I could be wrong about that though.

The ship has been slowed down enough to alter itineraries on the Eastern swing. It is possible that it will have an affect on it's stabilty, I personally don't think it has been slowed down enough to cause adverse stability.

My only real concerns are that RCI is not acknowledging the problem enough to notify passengers soon enough to alter thier plans, and I'm also worried they will need to dry dock the ship to make reapirs thus cancelling my cruise in May.

  12. As long as the ship can safely get you from point A to point B without issue, why should you care how it does?

We care! Is it really bothering you that we do?

As has been said, the center Pod has an issue. They are not using it unless they absolutely need to. It still works and can be called into service if they need it, but they are saving it.

You KNOW this info to be true? or are you simply stating what you THINK and have heard from CC members? We would like some facts from RCI.

The ship is not going to rock any more than it did whether it had one pod, two pods or three pods. Pods are merely propulsion devices, and the ship is not going to rock anymore given the same weather conditions.

How do you know this? Hard to beleive that an underpowered ship would not be more affected by the seas.

All anyone here is asking for are some facts, and some common sense.

If you cannot help with any of this ............

  13. I received this today too:

    Dear Rochelle,

We are looking forward to welcoming you onboard Liberty of the Seas® for your upcoming cruise vacation!

We want to confirm that your private cabana at Nellie's Beach awaits you upon arrival to Labadee®. These activities are very popular, so in order to ensure you make the most of your day at Labadee, visit Royalcaribbean.com/shoreexcursions today!

We can't wait to welcome you onboard.

    Your Royal Caribbean Team

Received the same e-mail today. Saved and printed. We don't sail until may 4th hope to hear some actual expriences before then.

  14. I interpret that to mean you will receive 6 wristbands and additional information in your stateroom. The passenger that reserved the cabana will distribute them to their guests.

    I don't understand the emphasis? :)

Well, when this issue first arrose, and we were discussing it here (please, read entire thread), we were being told this same info on the phone and in e-mails.

Passengers sailing still stated that their wristbands were still being distributed on Labadee as usual.

We have been discussing how they would know who gets what etc. after the cutoff date. As time goes by we will hear back from pax exactly how thing are actually being distributed. Until then, we can only go by what the e-mail states.

I, like you, take these words to mean we will be given wristbands and info in cabin prior to Labadee.

Now if we could only get them to assign us the cabana number we request all would be great!

  15. Received the same e-mail today. I also noticed in the e-mail they state that additional info and wristbands will be in our stateroom.

We don't sail until May 4th....saved/printed all info...we shall see what happens.

  16. Guess so, Wikipedia says so: The latest design, the Azipod X, incorporates these improvements, with a view to a service interval of five years, and features bearings that can be taken apart and repaired from the inside of the pod while the ship is harboured normally

Well there you go...nice job researching! let's hope the bearing are ordered and a plan is in place.

  17. What was wrong with the Celebrity ship in Alaska? Was it pod issues? They ended up canceling a few cruises to fix it. Having seen the bearing get replaced on Freedom, I can't see it being done while the ship is in service.

Maybe the design was changed when Oasis and Allure were built? I'm sure they learned from that mistake. I believe that is what chengkp75 was trying to say here.

    Hi Adam,

I really appreciate the opportunity to ask you questions directly. I have been reading about propulsion issues on the Allure. Can you elaborate on that situation. Have a cruise booked for May 2014 and am concerned. Thanks.

Hi Donna – Allure of the Seas currently has a small restriction on her top speed. All equipment is fully operational and there is no impact on the maneuverability of the ship or on the safety of our guests and crew.

First post is about the Oasis; 2nd post is about the Allure.

Yes, first post about Oasis and second about Allure....they use the same equipment(azipods) and both have had problems apparently. Was Oasis repaired? If so, maybe Allure can be repaired also while cruising as chengkp75 has stated. We can only hope it doesn't affect our cruise dates.
