  1. Would second Helen’s comments about the buffet. It is very crowded at breakfast and lunch but much quieter and more relaxing at dinner. The grill area is quite good.

Thanks...I really like having a leisurely breakfast on the veranda...but also love the variety at buffets...decisions, decisions. ;)

  2. And also check out the desserts in the case at Cafe al Bacio on your way to the MDR. Often times what CAB has looks (and tastes!) better than the MDR choices. If perhaps you are full at dinner and want to have dessert later... Celebrity has stopped putting ice pitchers in the cabins but you can request one.

Thank you... am not a big dessert eater...but other member of my family are and they will appreciate this information. Oh and thanks for the heads up about the ice pitchers...I will certainly request one.

  3. Some people like to kid. There is no deck 13. The ship skips that number of their decks.

It’s kind of like when I was in the Navy a old Chief told me to fetch a gallon of bulkhead remover. Doesn’t exist. Just a joke for newbies.

Oh thank you...I knew that..I was simply playing along. Hence the :halo: This is our 6th cruise...just the first on on Celebrity.

  4. The Solarium is adults only most of the time. The Aqua Spa Cafe in there is open to everyone not just Aqua Class cabins or spa patrons. Don't forget to check out the Mast Grill for burgers, dogs and fries! Open generally 11 to 6 pm. Also walk through the Oceanview Buffet at dinner time. They have chicken, pork, steaks and fish they grill to order. You might enjoy eating there. Hang out at the Martini Bar and watch the bartenders juggling drinks....

WOW, thanks Helen...I loves these kind of hints... Mast Grill will be my husband and son's favorite daytime place for sure. Steaks grilled to order at the Buffet...holy moly!! Again, Thank you

  5. TXRed,

We spent 16 nights on Solstice recently in Aus and NZ. You will love the ship and the crew. Most on this board have sailed S-Class Celebrity ships so there are no hidden secrets to them. But if it is your first Celebrity cruise everything about Celebrity and the ship will be new to you so please enjoy and report back here to us! Just explore! And read this Celebrity board or join your roll call to get more informed prior to your cruise. It is great to be excited!

Thanks for your reply....we always explore a new ship, but it's wonderful to know what to look for in particular. I appreciate everyone's input.:D

  6. We have cruised Solstice twice and loved her!

Remember Solstice is only one of two ships that has a Silk Harvest restaurant...order lots of small plates to share.

I think this will be a favorite place of my DIL and myself for sure...Thanks for the small plates suggestion....♥

  7. There are no secrets.

Read the daily papers, attend what you find interesting.

Explore the whole ship and enjoy yourself. Don’t chase after other people likes or don’t likes.

If you feel that you missed something than take another cruise.

    Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

    Thank you for your suggestions.

  8. Stop by the Oceanview cafe around 4 pm. They put out a lovely spread of tea sandwiches and little pastries.

aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh thank you(y)(y)...that sounds like a wonderful afternoon pick me up

  9. I wouldn't describe this as a secret, but since this will be your first Celebrity cruise find the Cafe al Bacio. The beverages are either charged to your seapass card or covered by a beverage package, but the treats in the glass case are no additional charge. Several years ago I was in the to-go line to order a coffee, and the two gentlemen in front of me were picking up their to-go lattes. One happened to ask the barista about the cost for the treats in the glass case and then, on the second to last day of the cruise, they learned that there is no additional charge for the treats.

    WOW thanks....that's a winner

  10. Hi Cruisers! We have booked our first trip on Celebrity...the Solstice to Alaska out of Seattle May 17, 2019. 11. We booked a fairly cheap sailing on the Jewel in March, but a heads up that I underestimated hotel costs significantly. I can usually find a nice hotel for $100 US most places and $225-325 US seems the going rate in San Juan depending on the night. I have no idea if this is the norm or only due to the hurricane closures and hotels taken up by workers/residents, but a significant additional cost for us, especially since we are in Canadian dollars.

    Yikes....must keep that in mind!

  12. Yes to the clothes line. Every cabin bathroom on every Princess ship has one.

TONS of drawer/storage space. Two big drawers and a shelf in each bedside table, three drawers in the desk, and an entire floor-to-ceiling wardrobe with storage shelves. Not to mention the 6' shelf above the closet rod.

Thanks so much...sounds like there is amply storage for certain!

  13. Hi, is there a little pull out type clothes line in the bathroom? I have had them on some other lines, however this is our first time on Princess. Also if you know how the drawer space is please hollar. I didn't see a dresser in our balcony room. TIA :)

  14. Dark is going to be around 7pm. I've sailed this timeframe- many times, including again last year. Always the same. :)

Thanks Mz. BQ, you are always so helpful to so many. I really appreciate your willingness to answer questions that I am sure you have seen/answered a bazillion time before.

  15. daylight hours are easily accessed on-line. Just plug the town into this grid:

    http://www.sunrisesunset.com/USA/Alaska.asp

Weather happens ... it will be what it will be. All you can do is pack appropriately. Pack layers ,including a waterproof jacket and take a small daypack to store your layers in case the weather changes during the day.

thanks, I have bookmarked the site. Not really caring about the weather...I am pretty flexible...I live in the Midwest! LOL

  16. As someone who has lived in Alaska for 40 years, I can say positively that on Sept. 1, fall begins. It can be 70+ degrees the week before-the day before, but on Sept. 1, fall begins.

It will be cooler. Maybe dry maybe rainy. It will be beautiful, but it will be fall.

Hi, since you live there, please comment on what the hours are for daylight in early September. We are sailing from Seeattle on 9/6/2015..will be at Ketchikan on 9/8/15 from 6:30am - 3:00pm; Juneau on 9/9 from 12:30pm to 10:00pm; Skagway on 9/10 from 7:00am - 5:00pm.... I spoke to a lady yesterday afternoon in Juneau, she said it was 57 and rainy. She said it had been a very rainy summer.
