  1. wow, we were lucky. Our cruise was Budapest to Prague...... July 11-23rd . We only had to change ships once and then couldn't get into Nuremberg. Was disappointed about that, but Avalon gave everyone a couple hundred $ refund to credit card and offered free excursions that day instead. They did have to bus us to Prague from Passau but again they took very good care of us. They seemed to be very "pro-active" before the situation arose.

There were 10 of us and we all agreed that it was a great cruise.

Every year it seems to be getting worse.

  2. Yes, you can but you run the risk of them being sold out.

We had the pre and post pkg so when in Prague we did the Czech dinner and folklore show.

It was a fun filled evening with good food, lots of beer and wine. Great entertainment, music and dancing.

We all felt it was worth the 56 Euro pp

  3. Which cruise line did you go on?

Were you impacted by the problems with low water levels and ships not able to get through?

    so ha

Just got home from Avalon .... Budapest - Prague We weren't able to get to Nuremberg, so had to be bused to Prague from Passau.

Also the first night we were on the Panorama then moved the next day to the Expression.

I have to say Avalon took very good care of us and seemed to be pro-active about the low water levels.

They gave everyone a 'Goodwell gesture" refund of $261 pp Canadian for us. It differed in what currency you booked the cruise in, and if we couldn't make it back to ship for lunch they gave us cash money a couple of times.

There were 10 of us and we all agreed that there wasn't anything to complain about and thought we were very well taken care of. We heard that other companies hadn't done such a good job.

A good example of being pro- active is ........... instead of us going to Passau, where 50 ships were docked because they couldn't get up the river, we went to Linz, Austria and was the only ship there. They also gave us free excursions to either Salzburg or Cesky Krumlov. These were expensive tours and if you had re-booked they gave a refund.

  4. AMA, Uniworld, and Avalon DO reduce prices. We have never paid "full" price, and have done five river cruises now. AMA tends to discount cruises shortly after dates are released, Uniworld tends to start discounting their next-year cruises around October or November. Right now, they have some great deals on 2018 dates. Avalon runs discounts off and on, and are less predictable.

Depends if the ship is sold out. October, November aren't high season.

I booked my cruise 14 mths out and the price never changed. In fact friends wanted to join us and everything was gone except a couple of suites. Just got back on Monday night from a awesome cruise. Saying that we got a great deal with air, 2 days in Budapest, 7 day cruise and 3 days in Prague for under $4000 Cad pp

  5. For those of you who have traveled the Danube Dreams Budapest to Prague river cruise; do we get a whole day in Passau? I wanted to book a private tour to one of the concentration camps. Thanks!

It really depends on the level of River. Because of low water levels, we didn't get into Passau until noon and left 6:45. I just returned on Monday night. It was a awesome trip, even with the low river levels.

  6. Just came home from a Avalon cruise. No need for drink pkg. The wine is plentiful at lunch.

Dinner was beyond believe that amount of wine they poured. They never walked by the table without topping my wine up.

We had a couple of free drink coupons and had a hard time using them.

Total bill at end of 7 day cruise for both of us was $23.:D

  7. I just got home on Monday night from cruising on Avalon Expression .... Budapest to Prague.

When we got to our hotel in Budapest there was a "M & G " with the Cruise Director.

We had already been informed before leaving that we would spend one night on the Avalon Panorama leaving Budapest and get on the original ship the next day . She then said that we would all be compensated $200 pp to our charge card and currency used when booking this cruise.

We were supposed to have the day sailing but because of low water levels we would be stopping in Pratislava and have a free tour and lunch on them. We then boarded buses to Vienna and boarded our original ship there and spent the night in Vienna.

We had the whole day in Vienna which was nice and didn't leave till 10:30 that night.

Then because of very low water and all the ships stuck in Passau we instead went to Linz Austria and they gave us free tours to either Cesky Krumlov or Salzburg. Those that had pre-paid got cash refunds.

spent the next day in Passau .

Because the water levels were so low we couldn't get to Nuremburg. They bused us to Regensburg and we were given free lunch vouchers. The people that weren't doing the extra days in Prague were going to be bused to Nuremberg and put up in the Le Meridien Grand Hotel with dinner / breakfast included..

We stayed the night in Passau and then were bused to Prague for our 3 day stay there.

All in all I think that Avalon did a great job in keeping us informed and keeping the low river impact to a minimum. They had a meeting every night just before dinner to let us know what was going to happen the next day.

I didn't hear a lot of complaining from fellow passengers. All we really missed was the day of cruising but I think the $200 pp refund was more than enough compensation. There were 10 of us traveling and we all thought the whole package that Avalon offers was "top notch" They were pro-active and we didn't get stuck in Passau with 50 other ships and had a lovely day in Linz instead. Those tours they gave us were all around Euro's pp so that was much appreciated.

I wouldn't hesitate to suggest or book another Avalon cruise. In fact we were all talking about maybe next yr.

  8. We are on the July 5 Avalon sailing from Zurich to Vienna. "Upper Rhine to City of Music: WZV 705. That's six days from now. We have not received our cruise documents packet. I know they do e-documents now but on our previous two Avalon cruises we received a packet in the mail containing docs, bag tags, airport transfer info, etc.

We have not even been told where the meeting place is or where to meet our transfer from airport to the meeting place or ship?

    Anyone else in this bind?

You should have received a blue envelope binder which would contain your luggage tags a book with everything and anything you need to know about your cruise. You also can register on "my avalon" and print all the info off.

We leave for our cruise in a week and have had our blue envelope for almost 3 weeks. They usually send them via Purolator and UPS
