  1. OP, thanks for posting. We will be at LA, SB, Catalina, and SF on a round trip from Vancouver leaving April 11. Great to hear what people did, and liked, on some of those stops. Jennybenny, thanks for the info about tasting rooms within walking distance of where the tender docks. We love wine so will be all over that in mid April.

  2. Yay, Norris once again!!!! Thanks for the invite over at the Princess Boards. I surf both, so would have probably found you over here, but felt special having an invitation to join this blog/review. I learn so much about cruising and the enjoyment of life from your posts ... as well as your humor. Let the fun begin.

  3. Sorry, to high jack your post. Our favorite island is Kauai. If I were booking excursions, number one would be the Napali Coast, second would be Waimea Canyon and third would be a trip to the north shore, specifically Hanalei and the pier. Over and out. You can now return to your post ;)

  4. Will not participate in "petition." I like the idea and if I want to send more to enjoy some added benefits, that sounds good to me. If I don't want to spend the money, or cannot afford it, I won't spend. Wish I could justify suite, with the added perks, but cannot. I do not begrudge those who can and do book a suite. I have been perfectly happy in the service throughout the ship and trust, yes trust, that Princess will keep up the good service. If they don't I'll move on to another line.

  5. Elvis, I don't smoke or drink cognac, but would gladly join you. I will be on the NE Cruise after yours. I may go back to the Mast Bar just to see if any of your cigar smoke lingers on our first night at sea. I hope so.

  6. HDWT, thank you for your original post as well as your coming back to answer additional questions. I understand your reticence to venture out again, but hope you will. Thankfully, there are more wonderful people here, than the snarks, but snarks do swim in these waters. I refrain from naming names.

I hope you keep us up to date on your cruise. I love reading live reports and since CC is so new, it's good to hear one person's experience with it. Reading what some speculate on other threads about CC, sounds like CC dining will bring down the Princess Cruise line!!! Glad to hear we might survive after all!

  7. Went last year in late February. Thankfully, weather was great and we did not miss any stops. It does keep a little nippy the further south one goes.

As for enforcing embarkation times, I didn't see it. The area is not well marked and my wife and I almost got in the line for another cruise ship!!! We did find our way, and I think we arrived around 12:30 and boarded within an hour.

  8. DW and I will be experiencing the roll our of club class on the Star on April 11. We had originally booked an aft mini-suite (as full forward as one could get in that category), and when curiously checked how many mini-suites were still available on our cruise, I noticed a new category ... club class. It's been a couple of months since I had checked the status of booked cabins, so it may have been there for weeks, and it was listed at $600 more per person on our 10 day cruise. We talked about seeing if it was worth upgrading, as we are naive newbies (this well be our third cruise on Princess) who don't know what we are doing. We liked the priority embarkation and disembarkation, as well as the dining offer. Here's what was interesting. When we called our cost turned out to be only $200 more per person instead of $600 because they were running a promotion. So we made the change. I am interested to see how it all plays out. We were on the Star Princess last year in March for a South America cruise (no cats) and had four wonderful table mates. We had early traditional dining. So for $20 a day per person the upgrade in perks was worth it to us. And it's less than the cost of a specialty restaurant. We look forward to how this impacts our cruise experience. I'll come back at the end of April and let you know.

The presentation continues inside. Oddly there is no British Pop Music playing-on the Ocean Princess they played nothing but the Beatles. Marvelous.

We wait a few minutes and a couple at a window booth leaves. The table is cleared and reset and I pounce on it. Now we can look out the window! Hooray!

A waiter comes to take our order. Carol is usually happy with the Ploughman's Lunch but is interested in Bangers and Mash. I urge her to try it.

I would have to say Pub Lunch is my favorite treat (and it's FREE!) on a Princess Cruise. It reminds me of my former home. Simple fare washed down with....

What? You were expecting a Martini? A Moscow Mule? Give me this Manly beer or give me Death!

Now the provender arrives and a choir of Angels sing

Carol loves the herbed sausages with a little spicy heat and the creamy mash. The onion gravy is sublime-she passed a composed forkful to me. Superb!

    What I crave is this

Steak and Kidney pie with *"chips". Beware- the contents under the light flaky pastry are oven- hot. Poke a hole in to let the heat dissipate. The spoon is there so that no rich oniony gravy shall escape. Tender steak chunks and kidney. My mouth is watering as I type. I wish I had some now but I don't. From our freezer Omaha Steaks is coming to my rescue. Any readers from Omaha? Where ya all from? (I'm working the room like Neil Roberts)

*Yes, fellow Brits, they have Malt Vinegar for those hot salty chips!

A great filling meal-we couldn't even manage the delicious Bread and Butter Pudding dessert....Next Time!!

    Princess-you rock!

Norris, I'm from Omaha, and willing to stop by the local Omaha Steak shop for you. Just make a list of what you want!

My wife and I were on the Star in March for a trip around Cape Horn. Great trip and loved the beef in Argentina ... not to mention the malbecs. We do a California Coastal this coming April on the Star as well. Love reading your posts ... always do ... and enjoy seeing more of the Star Princess which we loved. And your right. The food was/is great.

  10. My wife and I have sushi once a month here in Omaha. I know that's like saying someone has beef once a month in California, but still we loved the sushi. We are wine drinkers and so not a problem for us, but good to know you can order anything and get the sushi. Have fun.

  11. Have never been on the Summit but are booked on her for a New England cruise in 2017. We have, however, been on her sister ships, the Millie and the Constellation, both cruises fourteen days in length. We took the Millie on a Transatlantic and never felt the roughness of the seas. We love it. I trust you will as well.
