We leave in 8 day on the sunshine. Had booked a midship, deck 6, inside cabin (we love inside cabins and have always had them), but then saw a balcony, aft, deck 7 cabin (#7296) available for cheaper than we booked. Called to see if we could switch and try out the balcony and we could and got an OBC. So we are trying out a balcony for 1st time, even though we arent in room much, but figured hey better room and an OBC credit- why not give it a shot. Plus we will have easy access to the pool and lido deck without having to go through the casino. Very sensitive to smoke.
So if the room location is bad or anything is wrong with it, please don't tell me :)

Do they ever release more with only 2 weeks to sailing? I've been looking for months and they've been sold out.
-
Did you find the ship or your room warm? We leave in a few weeks and keep reading posts that carnival ships are warmer than they used to be (never had a ship or room that was warm) Debating if we should bring a fan.
Loved the review by the way.

For the towel invasion, do they tell you what morning they are going to do it on? We are on an 8 night, with 1 sea day, grand turks, san juan, st maartens, st thomas, and then 2 more sea days.
-
Is it offered on all ships, the sunshine in particular?
Is there a minimum age, we have a 4 yr old?
-
Thanks for the pictures. I read somewhere else that there are vendors selling kites, but maybe I will try to find one here... just in case.

we went to the family friendly comedy shows after dinner.
good to know. Did you have early or late seating? We have late seating and I bet the family show would be at 8pm, am I correct?
-
Does anyone know if the comedy shows are shown on TV the next day? I know in the past you were able to watch the love and marriage show, etc on tv. We have a 4yr old and know we wont make it to a comedy show.

Thank you. I had a feeling El Morro was the place to go, but was hoping you could do it at both. Where we live we don't get much wind, so it will be fun to take her somewhere she can really fly a kite.
-
Thanks to all that answered. I guess its going to be hit or miss. When we were on the destiny out if san juan in the middle of aug we had no problem with our deck 8 midship inside room. So was surprised to hear issues on the sunshine since its the same ship. This time we are deck 6, midship, inside, so hoping for a lucky room again (but more quite).
The Sunshine (aka Destiny) has always had chronic AC complaints. And it seems to be by areas rather than along the entire ship. Some people complain about warm cabins while others say they were perfectly fine. I know that when it used to sail from San Juan, a large group of my family members sailed on her. Those who had cabins up and forward were roasting while those a bit lower and midship were OK.Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

We want to take our 4 yr old to fly a kite at the fort. We have been to El Morro before and were thinking of going to Cristobal, can you fly kites there? If so, do the have people there selling kites?

Looks like we will have to settle for the american airlines. Its the only one flying in on Wednesday when we are there between 12 and 1. The other flights are propeller planes. A 738 plane coming in that close will still be impressive. Just have to make sure we dont miss it. Hopefully it wont be early. Going to mullet bay before we go to maho to watch that plane land.

I've read on here quite a few posts about it being overly warm on the sunshine or needing fans in the cabins. Anyone experienced this? Usually cruise ships have the a/c blasting and you end up freezing. I like to sleep in a cool room and now am starting to get concerned. This will be our 7th cruise and never once have I experienced or heard of it being "to warm" anywhere on a cruieship

Supercrossfox21 can you give me the information for who you contacted? I would love to do this. instead of an organized excursion from the ship, did you have to tell them where you wanted to go ahead of time? or if you change your mind is that ok if you decide you don't want to go to one of the places.
I gave him a list of places we wanted to go and time frame. He said just tell me where you want to go. He called me the other day to confirm. Seemed nice, said he'd wait for us with a sign. Asked what kind of drinks/beer we wanted and snacks. His name is Lucien Guatier,

From what I have read on other boards it means stretcher team. Did they give a location/cabin number when they called it out?
Here are other posts about "codes" they use. Hope not to hear any of them on our upcoming cruise on sunshine in 26 days.

Since September is low season in St. Maarten I would suggest that you look at the website the week week before and see which flights are due in on Wednesday, Sept 3rd and base the timing of your visit to Maho beach on Wednesday, September 10th around that. :)
good thing you told me. I need to know more than a week in advance due ti hiring a taxi for the day and trying to figure out our schedule and get the most out of our day. I went to each airline website like I was booking a flight and it appears AA 2219 is the only flight arriving that day at 1:09. And AA 2223 departing at 2:14. I used miami as the destination as it seems that is the stop you make if flying from other cities. If anyone finds other information, I'd love to know. (There were later flights but I need one between 10 and 2)

Thank you for the information. I will be printing it out and taking it with us.
Try this site: http://www.flightstats.com/go/Home/home.doIn the right hand corner you will see 'Flight Status'. Click on the By Airport tab, enter SXM in the Airport field and you can change the date there. It only shows one day past, current day, and three days forward.
Here is the Big Plane schedule for Wednesdays. The astericks are departures, the others are arrivals

Good to know. We are going to try to squeeze everything in. Will probably just hire a taxi for the day so they are sitting waiting for us and we can go at our on pace.
-
I tried the links from above but can't get it to change the date. We will be there sept 10 (Wednesday) from 10-4, any BIG planes landing in the middle of the day?

we will be going to Saint Martins for the second time this September. I have been in contact with the Office of Tourism and we have decided to rent a taxi for 6 Hours $250 for 3 people, snacks and drinks and we are going to do the butterfly farm, a beach, haven't decided which one yet, shopping and visit the zoo. This is just what we decided to do so we could be on our schedule. This may be a little more than doing an excursion through Carnival but it allows us to do what we want when we want and for how long we want. Last September when we were there we just rented a taxi and had them take us to orient day and then pick this back up and it worked out fine this time we want to see a little bit more and do more
-
$5 a person, less than 10 minutes.
Do you have to take a water taxi back from there to the port or is this just another option? We are thinking of hiring a taxi for the day and don't want to spend extra money since we will be paying for a taxi already.

Thanks for your reply

Thank you. I will look into kite flying. We saw it last time we were there but didn't think much of it. Now that we have our daughter and its rarely windy were we live, this might be fun.

Well I'll let you know what we prefer. We never even look at balconies for the reason they are more expensive and we are never in the room. But figured its cheaper lets try. Turns out they refunded it back to credit card. I guess we werent even supposed to get a refund bc we didnt book under early saver. But oh well, we will spend way more than the $88 we are getting refunded.
