  1. Of course it´s a way for them to make more Money and that´s the reason they exist in the first place. A cruise line does not exist to give you pleasure, they exist to make Money for their stockholders. Selling you a product of pleasure is just their tool to make Money. Don´t be fooled with thinking they exist to please you.

I have no Problem with the whole concept, including them to expect me to pay gratuities (another thing I know upfront) and foreign flag their ships and not adhere to US Labor laws. If you have a Problem with this you should take the proper steps and stop cruising.

I´m fully aware RCI is a mass market line and Catering to families. I buy into their Cruises with full knowledge of this, so no need to tell me to go elsewhere. I´ve never had a Problem with Kids on my RCI Cruises and that´s because RCI is doing such a good Job on keeping them locked away. Not sure where you got that I was/am upset aobut Kids. I´m happy as it is but I also like the Company, actually any Company, maximising their profits.

If the cost goes up too much and you can´t afford it anymore you need to look elsewhere simple as that. The Company will have to determine if they have reached a Point where they can´t sufficiently sell their product anymore, just like you have to decide if you can afford it or not.

It´s not a right to go on a cruise, it´s a luxury item you have to pay for.

I agree with everything you said!! PreSch!

I agree with everything you said!!

  2. Hey no problem - I'm not wanting to argue here.:) I've been on several cruises and know what things cost. They do the same thing that Disney and other places do. Why do they charge what they do? Because they can because people will pay it. We're thinking of taking the kids to Disney when we go to Florida but hard to believe they're basically $100 per day per person. I grew up in central Florida and remember when a trip to Disney was an affordable family fun day. It seemed like once Disney built Epcot and a few more hotels, they started becoming extremely greedy and their pricing got out of hand and has only worsened in the years since. I have nothing against a company making a fair profit -that's why they're in business. But making a fair profit and gouging every chance you get are completely different things. As long as we can agree to not fully agree with one another;)

No argument here!! Lol it does suck that they nickel and dime tho but cruises to me are well worth it and are convenient. Now if they increase the black jack table minimums I'm done cruising lol

  3. I understand what you're saying. I was just saying that because a company CAN charge you for something doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. If I nickel and dimed my customers for everything I do for them, I wouldn't have any customers left. There is a breaking point ya know. Good customer service means going above and beyond to ensure that your customers have a good experience, not milk them for every last damn nickel they have. Keep in mind that we are talking about a cruise line, who, as theme parks and resorts do, charge ridiculously high prices for items because they have a captive audience and prohibit anything that might cut into their profit margin in the slightest. Do you think that charging $2.50 plus a 15% gratuity for a can of soda isn't ridiculous? If not, I'm glad to see that you are extremely eager to part ways with your money. Me, I work too hard for what I make....

I understand your point, but big businesses like royal cater to the majority and I assume the majority will pay for the character breakfast and the Johnny rockets since that increased in price too. I know the prices are a bit high for items on board a cruise so I buy the premium package so I don't have to worry about paying on board for drinks. If I'm not willing to pay their prices, that'll be the day I stay home or find another place to go for vacation. That price for a soda is high, but you can find that out before you go on the cruise.

  4. We are a little more than a week away from our sailing. Just did the online check-in tonight but were told we can't print our Set Sail Pass. Have double-checked everything and can't find any missing information. Balance paid in full for months. No cruise documents either. We booked online ourselves and plan to call Royal tomorrow (office is currently closed). Any ideas why we are having issues?

My cruise is in may and I got my documents a week ago. Good luck!

  5. First time cruiser here with 3 kiddos(7, 9 & 11)...kiddos wanted to do the character breakfast, so we are going to do the character breakfast. $50 happily paid although it would have been nice to have cruised when it was free. Oh well! To me...we are on vacation and as a consumer, I am willing to pay for the service to satisfy the kiddos. But if it sucks....then I will mad

Hopefully it doesn't suck! Ur right it's a vacation and i make sure I have plenty of money to spend because I want to have a good time. Again, hope it's a good show for u guys

  6. I'm not happy about hearing this either. My family was counting on doing this to begin with. We have to save for quite some time to sail on RCI and at $40 just to see a few characters is ridiculous. I highly doubt that all of a sudden, as of May 1, it's now costing RCI more to host this than it does in April 2014. It's simply a way to make more money - nothing more. In all honesty, how much could their actual costs be in doing this? Very little.

As for the comments made before about it being OK to charge for every little thing - give me a break. That's part of what is wrong with today's society - pay for this, pay for that, a fee for this, a fee for that. Consumers get very little value for anything anymore. We pay more today for products and services, while the supplier is doing everything under the sun to cut costs. Cruise lines are cutting costs in many places, chocolates on pillows, towel animals, pens and paper, tablecloths, etc. So right there are some cost savings - so now it's OK to charge extra for something that previously was included? My thoughts are that the ones who think it's OK to charge extra for every little thing have a financial interest in the company. Keep in mind that the cruise lines generally post pretty healthy profits, and do so at the expense of not paying most of their workers well - they expect you to pay their wages IN ADDITION to your base cruise fare. They get away with doing this by flagging ships in foreign countries, thereby circumventing US labor laws, but that's OK, I'm sure. When is enough enough?

And for the comments made about "keep the basic children's club free so the ship isn't overrun with kids," here's a novel concept - don't book a cruise on a cruise line that markets their product to families with children. You're setting yourself up for your own disappointment by doing so. Try booking on Holland America or another line that doesn't market so much to families. If insisting on booking on a line that markets to families, don't be upset that there may be children around. Sorry, but that's life. I would love an ideal world where I'm surrounded by people that possess common sense, common courtesy, and a reasonable level of intelligence. Unfortunately, I'm not lucky enough to live in that world. Life has is it's little disappointments. Don't like it? Stay home...

I don't have financial anything in Royal Caribbean. If you don't like it, either don't go or adjust to the changes.

  7. I really like JR's (on land). There is one that is about 20 minutes from my house that I go to on a regular basis. They have both regular beef, and beef that has bacon pieces ground into it. It is quite good.

On the ship, it has always been a frozen burger patty that they have had. That is why I do not partake on the ship. Plus there is enough food for me to eat that does not have an upcharge.

They also have the brownie ice cream dessert on land! Tried it in Miami

  8. Did they know how to make a proper Grilled Cheese? On both the Majesty and Allure I ended up having to school them. On the Allure it was a REAL challenge with the language issues. Took about 3 times before they finally got it right.

Don't know how you can mess up a grilled cheese but it was good to me. Let me guess, the cheese wasn't melted? Lol I've had that happen before but not on a cruise

  9. I tell them no often. But it's hard to tell them no on a vacation for stuff like that, I mean the idea is to have fun. But I could wish for them to say "please daddy can we all lay down and read a book and maybe fall asleep?"

We've cruised with and without, now they're at a good age where they're fun to be around and semi-independent. We'll get to do more cruises later without them when they're grown. And they are useful for fetching stuff from buffet or cabin so I don't have to get up.

It was NOT a good idea when we took oldest when he was like 3. Not very relaxing. He was too young for AO. I always advise against that here when asked.

Yea we took my son when he was almost 1 and it was a lot of work. We are fortunate enough to have both our parents alive and healthy so they watch them while mommy and daddy get a 5 day cruise break! Our next cruise is in May and I can't wait! We both will be eating at Johnny Rockets too no matter what the price is. I love the chili with grilled cheese! So good!! Also got the premium package so it's going to be a lovely cruise! Lol

  10. Ok, let's agree that one dollar isn't much.

How do you feel about paying $10 for the Character Breakfast, previously free?

Not a big deal to me. My kids aren't crazy over eating with some characters when they can eat with mom and dad for free. Again, no one is forcing you to eat there. You either pay for it or don't. They're a business so what do you expect.

  11. The way some people are complaining and trashing JR's you would think they are being forced to eat there! If you don't like it...DON'T GO...and if the 1.00 increase is such a big deal again...DON'T GO!

It's amazing this thread has over 100 and some posts!

Exactly! Finally someone who thinks. I've never been forced to eat there myself, but maybe others have lol

  12. Royal tarnishing or how the world works? Milk, gas, cars, housing eye have all gone up over the years. Are you going to stop eating? Are you going to live on the street? I doubt it. Times have changed and u either keep it moving and adjust or complain. If you don't like Royal then try Carnival. They're a business and they're main goal is to make money.

  13. I hate to say but I'm on the opposite side. I love Royal Caribbean and of course like any business they must do whats right at certain times. Perhaps Royal is not the cruiseline for you and thats fine. I love the service I get on Royal and the staterooms are not meant to be your Penthouse suite unless you go for the Royal Suite.

With regards to single supplements I would look for a cruise where they either reduce it or waive the supplement. You may find ac chartered cruise for singles or a large block of cabins that allow you to book it as a single person and not have to pay the surcharge.

You know you can always stay home or go on the cruiseline that had engine problems. The choice is yours.:D

    I agree I love royal

  14. That's why I said it should be the same throughout a bar/company. Different bars/restaurants may have a different recipe, but in each place the bartenders should all be using the same recipe. You're absolutely right tho, some bartenders have heavier hands than others.. no matter what the recipe actually calls for! (..and then there's the fact that some bartenders also change their pours based on the guests/their friends or regulars/better tippers.)

I do love peach LITs tho!

    Manda

Lol very true! Haha the part about the friends

  15. Erik, I loved your response. I was "researching" whether it was worth it or not too and you are absolutely right! It will allow all of us (including my kids) to get what they want without having to worry about it.

    Beth

3,4,5k?? Lol not me more like $1200 for a 5 day cruise and I get the package.

  16. Any type of LIT SHOULD be the same strength (throughout the same company or bar, different companies/bars have different standard recipes as to how much of each liquor.)

The difference is the peach/strawberry/mango LITs taste sweeter because of the flavor, so it's not as strong of an alcohol taste.

    Manda

Should be the same if every bartender makes it the exact same way. Some have heavy hands while others don't. My experience with long islands is that the peach teas aren't as strong, to me.

  17. It might be a tad bit sweeter than u are used to when u have it with the Ciroc Peach, only because peach schnapps is pretty sweet itself, but still sounds like a great drink to me! And if it does turn out to be little too sweet, ask for a splash of club soda over the top to cut it on the next one.

Ok thanks for the assistance. I don't drink club soda so would sprite be ok?

  18. Actually statistics have shown that the play of other players OVER TIME has no effect on the probability of you winning. (that statement ought to stir up a hornets nest)

I agree with you though, I would rather play with a player that is making tons of basic strategy mistakes but having fun doing so, over a stick in the mud following basic strategy

I've played with lots of players that huff and puff when the player makes a move that may not be logical or right to the rest of us, but who cares it's all in fun. It's not that serious to me and I'm not betting my home, kids or wife so I'm good. I'm with you, id rather play someone who's having fun than someone who's acting like a jerk. My wife and I played with this one guy who was a great player until the casino closed and he was a classy guy and we all left the casino up that night. Had a great time.

  19. Of course in a bar it would cost a fortune, but this is my mix (at home!) for a top-shelf Long Island Iced Tea (and not to brag, but I did win bartender of the year in HX Magazine in NYC in 02... LOL) !

    Stoli or Absolut Vodka

    Bacardi or Gosslings Rum

    Patron Tequila

    Tanqueray Gin

    Cointreau

Diet Coke (that cancels out all the calories!)

    Fresh Lemon

....and you have an AWESOME drink!

I think I'm gonna try making the Peach version next time .. never had that one ... I guess you'd just leave the Cointreau and lemon out ?

It's great! It's one of my favorite drinks. Quick question for you. I drink ciroc peach with cranberry but they don't serve ciroc on RC. Could I ask for grey goose with the peach schnapps then add the cranberry? Ciroc peach with cranberry is also my favorite. Lol
