  1. If you booked through P&O contact them if it was a Travel Agent let them know that you wish to apply for MOBC. Take some proof of service with you. I would suggest just photocopy discharge certificate or document. If it's one of the small books take it with you. I personally wouldn't bother with the card as they have stated via mail to earlier members that the cards would no longer be valid going forward. Good luck, hope your Dad gets this as He definitely qualifies.

The links above are to 3 screenshots from Google Earth that I captured of the store and area around it, plus someone else's picture of the store from the front. I'm posting them to help people find their way from Piazalle Roma, and get an idea of how far the store is (not far). People Mover elevated "train" can be seen running across the water to the port, which is at maybe 10:00 but off the page. Not totally sure if building next to it (near Piazalle Roma) is where you enter/exit, but assume so.

    Hi roothy123,

They are fantastic, thank you so much. That really shows the distances. I've taken screen shots of your photos so I have them with me when I get there. :)

  3. So if I go to the COOP to buy a few bottles of wine with my carry on on wheels, I won't be allowed in to the shop with it will I?

    Doughty3,

If you read no 19 and 20 on this thread the case was discussed. The returning suggestion was to go to the checkout desk and ask if you could leave the case there. Buy the items you want then put into case once paid for. [emoji4]

  4. Does anyone know if there is a supermarket near to the cruise terminal in Venice that would sell any bits that we might have forgotten before departure? Also could I buy a bottle of bubbly to take on with me to enjoy in my cabin?

    Any advise gratefully received.

    I love cruisin!

    Hi davedex,

Looking at the date of your HAL cruise I think you will have already done this trip. If so how did you get on?

We arrive in Venice on a Wednesday morning to board Oceana, we have transfers included to the ship. Did you find any other stores any nearer and would this Coop be do able on embarkation day after flying in same day.

    Hope you are both well.

    June & Dave :)

  5. Another happy shareholder here. :):)

I just found it best to apply as soon as the balance is paid. If there are staff holidays there can be a delay in the OBC being applied.

All I do now is send an email to carnival shares with Booking Reference and my OBC is applied usually straight away. I've even had a new confirmation within an hour showing the OBC.

As for worth it..... Definitely. :D

  6. We are going to Venice on our trip on the Oceana. We are planning to meet family there, does anyone know the time the ship docks

    Hi Julie buck,

On CruiseTT Oceana is shown as docking at 13:00 hours on a Tuesday and leaving at 22:00 hours on a Wednesday. These are the timings for the rest of this year.

    Hope this is useful.:)

  7. Thanks but it's not our first cruise we have already done ten with two more booked.

I was just saying that on one of the Facebook pages people were giving others the impression you can get the OBC if you are a civvy for the MOD, when in fact you aren't supposed to.

    Sorry amajaa,

I meant to quote Doughty's comment from above but linked onto the wrong quote. Being a touch blond tonight.

  8. Yes I agree it is open to abuse. I have seen posts on the cruise pages on Facebook where civilians that worked for the MOD saying they have got the OBC. Of course they are then telling more people to do the same. They should stick to what they say and check the proof onboard otherwise remove the OBC if it can't be provided.

You do have to provide proof of service for the defence privilege card but not for the blue light card ( where you can get 5% discount if you book direct) that lots of people get.

    Hi amajaa,

There are other forums on the Internet for research but I find this is one of the best, especially useful for destinations and looking at excursions. The search facility is very good as well. Many cruisers use the Roll Call section also where you can meet people on the same cruise, I've used this in the past and joined independent excursions with others.

Enjoy your first cruise I'm sure it won't be your last. :)

  9. Midsomer Madness, new to the DDC, but have used it in the last two months to obtain OBS with P&O in January & September next year.

    Hi Petina,

Did you get this card from having been in the forces or just working with them as an MOD civilian? These were the people found to be claiming benefits they weren't entitled to, I believe they may have used the Forces Rewards Card which depicts if you are a Veteran, Civilian etc.

This we believe has been stopped and I was also under the impression that they were now only accepting the Discharge paperwork or the proof applied for from the MOD.

  10. I think the 'Red Book' is an Army document. The RAF on discharge get a Light Blue folder which contains various certificates etc but the one we used was the Discharge Certificate. I think the Navy have a Dark Blue folder with the same information. The MOD have a document that once completed goes to the relevant branch of the Armed Forces. They will supply a Proof of Service document. Our friends applied to MOD and got theirs via RAF Cranwell where all records are now kept.

  11. We applied in the very early days when you had to send the proof to Carnival/P&O.

Now it's been changed again, this was due to many people with the cards claiming the MOBC but due to them only having worked with the forces and not in them they weren't entitled to the Benefits. To tighten up on this they now say let your TA know and they will put the MOBC onto your cabin this needs following up with proof.

If you take a copy of the discharge certificate that should be sufficient. Don't rely on the cards that can be purchased. As we book direct with P&O and they have a copy of OH discharge certificate it gets added automatically.

    It's well worth having.

    :)

  12. As a matter of interest we just booked a cruise on Queen Vicoria (all part of Carnival of course) we have been given double forces OBC and also got 5% off using our Blue Light Card. The cruise was a great deal as it was so really pleased. :):):)

What is the Blue Light card?

I'm guessing it's Emergency Services so are you entitled to use both if you have served in both at the same time?

We have used ours on HAL and P&O but Wull92 is right it only started May 2014 any cruise booked prior to this date doesn't qualify. The P&O site gives full details and amount for each length of cruise.

  13. We are on Britannia next week and are looking to self disembark early as we have a birthday bash to get to. Can you leave your cases in your cabin while you breakfast as I seem to remember having to vacate your cabin quite early when you land back at Southampton

Last week we had to vacate the cabin by 8am. Breakfast started at 6am and 6.30am in the Buffet and Restaurant. So time to eat while luggage is in the cabin.

  14. We were on B509 and as we didn't need to be off by a particular let P&O allocate our time. We were to be in the Sindhu restaurant for a 10.15am. disembarkation. At about 10.05 we were told to go to the Disembarkation point. We were quickly off the ship and had the long walk to the baggage reclaim area.

It's to long a walk if you have any serious mobility issues. Once in the baggage hall we headed for our deck number, once there it took a while even then to locate our bags. (TIP: IF YOUR BAGS GO OUT TOGETHER AT NIGHT THEY REMAIN TOGETHER.) It's the separate case that goes out later that we found hard to locate. Anyway we were phoning our Taxi transfer at 10:30 so all together quite a slick transfer. By 3pm we were sat in our lounge in Lincoln.

  15. We arrived home from Ventura today. We were due into Guernsey last Sunday (this already being a change to our original booking) but unfortunately the winds were to strong and the swell looked too much for tenders. However, P&O did their best and whilst found nothing for the Sunday we got into Le Harve on Monday so in all we still had 2 stops albeit not the ones planned.main thing though is we all remained safe.

It appears the previous cruise also had problems as a couple of the ships excursions headed off again the winds picked up and all tendering operations ceased only resuming to collect the excursion passengers on their return.

  16. Hi everyone,

We are now on Ventura. Check in was much better than before. We came into the building, handed our illness forms. Went up slope given a letter of the alphabet told to sit down. When letter called go to check in. Sent to security through very quickly straight on to ship took about an hour. There were some seats before the slope. It wasn't long a walk as it was broken up, however if you didn't need to wait it could be a long walk. But seating is available.

I don't know if that helps I hope it will.

  17. I didn't realise there was a new terminal when I posted the original question about distance to walk onto the ship and queuing. That's a bit concerning there was nowhere to sit in the old one and a lot a queuing. Will definitely to good to hear from someone traveling through, all about it. I need to know how far roughly the walk is from dropping luggage onto the ship, and also the queuing and somewhere to sit if you do have to wait. I don't want to bother with assisted boarding if its only a short distance.

Hope this photo works, it's from a mails hot this morning from P&O. Note the same doorway in. I can see seats on the left.

  18. Hi Londongirl,

I'll let you know on my return, we get back on Wednesday 6th May. If I get chance on Saturday before we sail and I have a signal I'll post something then.

I know there is a lift that takes 46 people at a time. I'm sure there will be reports coming from the ones who get back on Saturday on Ventura as they sailed in and out of Mayflower.

  19. I am sailing from Mayflower Terminal on Saturday on a 4 night break. If it helps I can comment on the changes since I last sailed from there. I know they were knocking a lot of walls down and making a large arrival area with seating.

As I don't know when you go please Let me know if you need me to write something when I return.
