  1. We will be sailing on the Breakaway at the end of April. At the time of sailing my daughter will be 9 months old. I received this email from NCL:

We're excited you will be cruising with us and it will be so much fun to travel with your baby (we're very sure your little one will enjoy Freestyle Cruising® as much as you). But, before you pack the diapers, we need to make sure your baby is old enough to travel.Infants sailing onboard a Norwegian Cruise Line vessel must be at least six months of age at the time of sailing. However, for voyages that have three or more consecutive days at sea, the infant must be at least 12 months old at time of sailing. If your infant does not meet the minimum age requirements, you will not be permitted to sail. Please be sure to bring along their birth certificate, so we can confirm the age of your child. This policy is based on the consensus of the medical committee of Cruise Line International Association (C.L.I.A.).Thank you,Norwegian Cruise Line®We have a passport for her.

Do I still need to bring the birth certificate. One of the reasons for getting the passport was to not have to travel with her original birth certificate, among other reasons. I plan on bringing a copy of the birth certificate. Has anyone done this? I would think the passport would be sufficient since you have to mail in the original birth certificate to obtain a passport. Any help is greatly appreciated

  2. Looks like a modification in process. Received my upgrade email soon after I booked (late Jan for 3/12 cruise) and placed bids. Today when I signed onto My NCL the home screen says "Let's Get You Upgraded" with a link to the bid page. Not sure if this will be active on everyone's screen at some point in the process, and is in addition to or replacement of the email system. Just FYI if anyone's interested.

I see this now as well. I wonder if everyone sees this or just people who were sent the email.

  3. H2O replied back. They do not have a minimum age requirement for their boats. They do not provide infant/baby life jackets and recommend bringing our own which we would do.

"Our 17ft Twin Vee motorboats are easy to maneuver and there is no age minimum required. Your little girl will enjoy the gentle rocking of the waves. ;) We provide life jackets for small children, not for babies/toddlers however and advise you to bring your own. When you arrive, we will give you a brief orientation of the boat and point out interesting sites & places to stop on a map and off you go! You'll have a blast exploring Bermuda's west end! "

  4. I don't know if every rental company has the same rules, but KS Watersports has a minimum passenger age of one year old:

    http://www.kswatersports.com/about-us/faq/

"Minimum age requirement as a passenger on our rental boats is 1 years old. We do not allow infants and children under 1 year old onboard our boats, due to safety reasons."

Thank you. I'll check with the place I was looking at, but I'll expect that answer.

  5. If you are beach or water people, we have been to Bermuda twice and absolutely loved each time. I have a list of places we went in my signature link if you are interested in looking at some of them and they are loaded with tons of pictures of the beaches and places we went. You might see something you like.

One thing that we REALLY enjoyed was doing a jet ski tour with H20. They showed us around (even cruised right by the ships for some awesome pictures) and then after the tour was over, we rented a boat from them and went out on our own. It was AMAZING and so much fun! We went to a deserted private island and had the place to ourselves. It was just a really great day. :)

Do you know if there is an age limit for going on a rented boat? We'll be travelling with a 9 month old and are considering this.

  6. Would love to know what type of magnet hook you buy and where you get them!

I can't speak for the hooks, we've never used them. We use the little push pin magnets to hang the dailies and the ship map and any other information we find useful. Amazon and probably any office supply store has them.

  7. I got sick a few years back on our first time on the Breakaway. I felt a little "off" as we were waiting to board and attributed it to sitting in traffic in NYC for 2 hours due to a marathon. I pretty much ran to the bathroom as soon as we were on. I then passed it on to my wife the next day. We pretty much quarantined ourselves until we were well enough to do anything. Our solution was to go on the Breakaway the next year and have a great time to make up for the previous bad time. We are going on the Breakaway again this April. To the person who said you've already done the Escape, there is no way she's "done that ship" if she was sick the whole time. Hop back on the horse and make better memories.

  8. It essentially is a guarantee. People don't seem to be told until a couple days before their cruise if their bid has been accepted at which point you'll know which room you have. I don't care where my cabin is and usually book guarantees anyways so I'm placing a bid just to get in the Haven. If I do, Great! If I don't, oh well. The T&C tell you if your bid is accepted you don't get the option to decline the room. Also if you don't get accepted it says: "If you are not upgraded, you will keep your original stateroom that you already have, and pay nothing extra."

  9. I have been on Oasis of the Seas and Breakaway(x2, x3 in April). The biggest difference to me was crowd flow. On Oasis you had a a hard time telling there were 6,000 people on the ship barring a few times. On Breakaway it has more of a funnel feeling to me. You can walk outside to get most places on the waterfront but most people seem to be "funneled" down the middle of the ship. Also most activities are in the Atrium which is much too small for that. Obviously this hasn't deterred us from going back. Just be aware and get to the Atrium early for activities you really want to participate in. It still is a very nice ship and a cruise is what you make of it.

Freestyle dining is basically eat whenever you want. I would make a reservation for at least one night in the Manhattan room as that MDR can have a wait and it is the nicest of the 3 MDRs.

  10. Being a traveler without kids..... I reverse that question to you.... why is the burden on me to pay for your infant to be taken care of?

If they don't charge you then where do you think the money for staff, insurance, diapers, and other items come from?? It comes from the cruise fees I'm charged.

I'm being a total devil's advocate and not directed at you (or other parents) ...... everyone can rattle of items I'm paying for but not utilizing...... but your question raises mine.

I will counter your argument with one question. If I'm taking a child under three and paying an adult rate, since there is no discount for a child, should not their cruise fee go towards their needs? Now, as a parent of a young child, if I'm vacationing as my family I want my family together and would not use this service but I'm sure many will. A baby will not eat or drink even close to what an adult will, nor will they use the adult activities. So what is in it for them for the full cruise fare?

  11. If you take a taxi do you need to have a car seat? Also if you take a bus do you need the car seat? I'm not going to want to lug around a baby seat for a 9 month old. The plan is umbrella stroller and baby carrier if needed.

  12. Looking for fun ideas in Bermuda for upcoming Anthem cruise in May 2017. We will have our 3 year old and 1 year old with us. I read somewhere there's a zoo and aquarium? Beach is always fun for a few hours too...recommendations? Any help is greatly appreciated!!:)

We are going to Bermuda on the Breakaway the last week of April with a 9 month old. I would also like recommendations as well. Thanks!
