  1. I live 10 min away from BCIT 🙂 I really hope it doesn’t get to the later stages but I also hope she lives a lot longer. It’s not easy that’s for sure.
  2. Thanks I thought about that but they are in their 80’s and I think that may cause them more stress than anything. If my dad can get a day pass that’s probably the best option. My mom can’t walk far but if they can get it near the ship when they are in port that will work too.
  3. Thanks - I’m really hoping everything goes well. My mom is showing signs of dementia so this may be their last cruise. 😥
  4. That only applies if you are American which we are not. As long as they can get wifi while in port (as long as it’s very close to the ship) they will be able to use their phones to text or email.
  5. Can you purchase wifi by the day or is it just for the entire journey? My parents leave on Sunday for 16 days and they don’t really need wifi but they would like to check in every few days. They just have the basic package no drinks etc so they would have to purchase wifi separately. The only option on the app is for the entire stay and it’s over $500 so they won’t be doing that just to check in once or twice. If they can’t do it by day does anyone know if the ports in Hawaii (Maui, Kauai, Hilo and Honolulu) have somewhere they can get wifi that’s within very easy walking distance from the ship.
  6. I was the one who originally posted about it and we did end up doing it and it was fantastic. Our guide at Blue Hole (Diego) couldn’t have been more awesome - it was definitely the highlight of our trip. The river tubing part was fun but not as exciting. They make you wear helmets which was kind of silly because they didn’t seem necessary at all and they were super comfortable. The water wasn’t flowing very fast so people would get stuck on the banks quite a bit but the guide would come and pull you back into the centre with the group. That guide seemed a lot more cranky but it was raining and at the end of the day so maybe that’s why?!
  7. There have been something like 30 deaths and many more injuries in Lynn Canyon from cliff jumping or from drowning in the waterfall pools in the last 20 years or so. People still flock to it every year though.
  8. My daughter just made them and they are good but I agree they aren’t the same. Very different texture - still tasty though.
  9. I'm happy to hear I wasn't the only one who overindulges in the cookies!
  10. Oooh thanks for this - I will try making them although I'm not sure that's a good thing!!
  11. My daughter and I just finished our first RCCL cruise and we loved it. We weren't sure how it would compare to Princess (our usual cruise line) but we would be happy to sail with them again. Among many other things we liked, they had super yummy coconut cookies that we enjoyed daily (sometimes more than once ok maybe even more than twice a day!) Today I said to her in a very sad news reporting somber voice "today is day 4 of no coconut cookies". Then I said "maybe we should just book another cruise right now" and her response was "that's a good plan but if they don't have the cookies on every cruise is there even any point?" Clearly we were just being silly and somewhat overdramatic about the cookies but it prompted me to ask - is there always coconut cookies in the Cafe Promenade??!!!!
  12. I booked it online on the RC site. If it’s no problem to change it once we are on both are then I won’t worry about it. I’d rather not give them extra work though.
  13. I don't remember if there was a spot to choose twin or queen for the bed configuration when I booked our cruise (Mariner) and I can't seem to find it anywhere under "plan my cruise" when I look online. Is there somewhere I can see what the configuration is? I want to make sure it's two twin and not a queen.
  14. Yeah I feel the same way - I’ve never used a travel agent so I wouldn’t have a clue who to pick. I’m currently in San Francisco and will be boarding a cruise on Sunday. I’m planning on putting down a future cruise deposit so I think I’ll ask a bunch of questions then!
  15. I’m currently booked in both rooms and I had a third booking that I just cancelled for the same cruise because I couldn’t get through to change the booking to the sale price so I just rebooked at the lower price and then canceled the original booking after. Before I canceled I was booked in three different rooms! I was surprised I was able to book the same cruise more than once - I can’t imagine that’s good for business since at least one booking is guaranteed to be canceled.
  16. Thanks for the responses 🙂 I don't know when you can or can't turn it over to a travel agent so not sure if it's too late - I've never used a travel agent for any of my trips - what would be the reason you think I should turn it over to one? I did call back to get the price changed and it turns out the reason it was higher was the agent added in airport transfers which I didn't ask for and once they took that off the price went back to the correct price. They couldn't do anything about the missing onboard credits so I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told one wasn't available and to call back tomorrow. We won't be doing the beverage package so that's not an issue for this time but that's something to keep in mind for later cruises. If I have my mom as a solo traveler and then add myself to it before final pay will it be at the rate on that date or the current rate given that I'd be taking me off on booking and adding it to another? There is a sale on right now so I want to make sure I lock in this rate. I think if I call and get the bookings linked the kids should be able to be in their own room because they are both over 16 - they were on their own for our European cruise last summer and they were 19 and 16 and it wasn't an issue.
  17. I just got off the phone with Princess after a very frustrating phone call and I am not at all confident that I was given the correct info so I thought I would check here before calling them back. I booked a cruise with me and my daughters (20 & 17) and the three of us are in one cabin. My mom said she would like to join us so I made a second booking with my mom and I in one cabin and left the original booking as is. The last day to cancel with no penalty is July. My mom is having some health issues and I'm concerned she may need to cancel (before July) and I don't want to lose the price we have for the cruise. Assuming these options happen before the cancel by date these are my questions: 1. If I leave the bookings as is and my mom is able to come will I be able to take my name off the booking with my daughters even though they are both under 21. 2. If I take my name off the booking with my daughters now and my mom has to cancel will I be able to add my name back to the booking at the same rate I'm paying now. The princess agent I spoke to first said I would be able to take my name off the booking with my kids without an issue and then he said if I take my name off they will not be able to make any reservations and may have a problem at boarding (even though I would be with them) and he also said I would no longer be able to access their reservation. He then took me off the reservation with my mom which meant my mom was charged the solo traveler fee. When I told him not to do that he added me back but the rate was $100 higher and we lost our on board credit. He said he fixed it and when I told him I wasn't hanging up until I got an email confirmation that showed the right price or that it was showing correct in my princess account I wasn't hanging up and then he hung up on me. It's still showing the higher rate online and I never got an email confirmation showing anything different. Ugh.....this is my 5th cruise with Princess and I find it's hit or miss whether the person on the other line knows what they are doing.
  18. Thanks - I did that for a bunch of places and didn't find what I was looking for so I was hoping someone might know of a place I didn't find.
  19. Is there anywhere in SF to go for a seafood boil or even better fried clams? We'll be staying near Fisherman's Wharf so even better if it's close to there?
  20. Has anyone done this excursion? Would you recommend it? Are the falls at Blue Hole hard to climb? What does the exit point from the water look like? One member of our party is just under the max weight limit we are wondering if they will have any issues. They are very active and are an avid swimmer but would not be able to pull themself out of the water if it was a steep exit.
  21. Do you know if you can book it in advance or is it only day of?
  22. The departure time for the one I booked says 8:30. I’m assuming that means we’ll be at KSC around 9:30. It also said for flights later than 5:00 so likely leaving around 1:30 which is about the same four hours you got. If I didn’t have to deal with our luggage I’d probably opt for another method but this one seems the easiest. We can spend the rest of the day in the pool at the airport hotel. 🙂
  23. Hmmmm we did that in Rome and it was one of the best days of the trip. Maybe I should look into that. Who did you book with? Do you remember the cost?
  24. Has anyone done this excursion? We just booked it for May 26th - we are staying at the airport hotel so I thought this would be a good way to spend the day while our luggage was taken care of. How much time do you get at the space center? I'm assuming the cost of the tour includes admission to the space center? Any recommendations on what to do while we are there?
  25. Thanks all - our flight time kept getting changed to earlier and earlier so I decided that instead of stressing about getting to the airport on time I would stay another night and we booked the Space Center excursion with transfer to the airport and we will spend the night at the airport hotel and fly home in the morning.
