Does anyone know who the cruise director is on the Carnival Victory right now? Interested to know for March 20th cruise.

We just returned from our Western Caribbean cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam and really enjoyed the ship for the 2nd time sailing on her. We booked "As you Wish Dining" this cruise because 3 of the nights we had reservations for the specialty restaurants. Tamarind and Pinnacle Grill food was wonderful. Not crazy about the Canaletto food though. Main dining room food was o.k. We were too busy to attend the Mariner luncheon. Room service breakfast food was hot and very prompt in arriving. Service was excellent in all venues on ship. We were disappointed in the very cheesy production shows and the singers and dancers. Really liked the very personable cruise director, Mario. B.B. King shows were very entertaining as well as the comedian on board. We only left the ship twice - Cozumel which was very crowded because of 7 ships in port with us and Key West where we walked around even though it rained most of the day. Every part of the ship was immaculate. Staff everywhere was very friendly and smiling. Getting off the ship took way too long though, but it was nice to be able to stay in our Veranda cabin on deck 7 til time to get in the line. Not sure if we will return to Holland America or go back to other lines we've enjoyed in the past. We also previously sailed on Eurodam the year she first came to Port Everglades.

A few years ago when we sailed on the Nieuw Amsterdam, HMC was cancelled because of strong winds. The next year on a Princess cruise, we had a scare while on a tender because the waves were so high and rocked us up and down and side to side. For our upcoming cruise on NA, we hate to miss the ports but probably won't be tendering. Husband has to use a walker most of the time because of recent fall. :(

We have never tried "open dining"and thought we would try it on this cruise. However, we only want a table for 2 at 6:00. How were you able to get a reservation for the SAME table and time with open dining?

When trying to book specialty restaurants, Ship Services informed me that my booking included the above plan. My TA had previously told me that he gave me Canaletto and Tamarind dining (no mention of the term "Dine-Around"). So wondering what procedures take place to secure the reservations. Are the times and dates picked by the ship? My TA is not available today to enlighten me and not sure he even understands.

Trying to book Specialty restaurants on Nieuw Amsterdam for upcoming 7-night cruise. Called Ship Services to ask when the Gala nights would be and was told its up to the Captain. I would not want to book the specialty restaurants for those nights. Does anyone recall the TYPICAL Gala night schedules on previous HA ships?

Thanks for all the answers. We will definitely go to Tamarind for DINNER. Hope not too late for reservation on the night we pick.

We are trying to figure out which nights to eat in the specialty restaurants on the Nieuw Amsterdam. We thought we would try lunch in the Tamarind instead of dinner. Does anyone have a recent lunch menu? We ate dinner there on a previous cruise. Our TA is paying for our dinner in the Cannaletto - the one restaurant we have never tried. We will probably book dinner in the Pinnacle but not sure which night would be best for us.

Glad I saw this post. I never really noticed people with a walker on a cruise. My husband has a balance issue now and wondered if he would be able to bring his walker for use on the ship.

Who will be playing in the Piano Bar on Nieuw Amsterdam in November?
-
I love prunes and the juice that comes with them. Can't wait to get my fill at breakfast in the Lido. :D

We are Jimmy Maddox fans and wonder if he will be playing piano on the Nieuw Amsterdam during our upcoming Nov. 15th cruise. :)
-
Yes, there is a SEPARATE roll call with just the date Nov. 15th. :) I posted on that roll call, but there is only me listed there and 2 others. It is just for the 7-day Western Caribbean cruise.

We were on the Eurodam Dec. of 2010 when ship was new and the Nieuw Amsterdam the end of November 2011. Don't recall vibration, but our cabin both times were mid-ship. This November we will be on Nieuw Amsterdam in a cabin near the REAR elevator. Hope we won't be experiencing any vibrations during night since I am a very light sleeper. I do remember that our Eurodam cabin was very cold. I was prepared for that on Nieuw Amsterdam cruise and packed my flannel p.j.'s. This year it looks like I'll be experiencing both a cold cabin and a possible vibrating rear one.

I hope Holland America bans smoking on their ships before my upcoming Nieuw Amsterdam cruise. It would make me very happy as I can't stand to be around smoke. Several years ago when Carnival's Paradise was a non-smoking ship, we sailed on her twice for that reason. :)

I did not see a piano bar entertainer on the above list for the Nieuw Amsterdam during November and December. Does anyone have that info?

Sorry to see that Jimmy Maddox will not be in the Piano Bar for our Nov. 30th Nieuw Amsterdam cruise. It looks like Debbie Bacon will be the one. We never heard of her so hope we will enjoy her music.

I didn't realize that HAL still allows smoking on verandas. Just booked an Aft veranda cabin and hope I won't be sorry. I can't stand to be around smoke.

Luckily you had your computer out there with you. I've had my fears of being locked out of the cabin while on the balcony. I would have had a panic attack if this had happened to me. Nice to read how so many CC people tried to help rescue you. :)

On two days of our cruise, we had sundaes there for lunch. Both days I had the Frangelica (really good) and Mort had strawberry (no alcohol). Used our coffee card. Enjoyed our gelato sundaes while watching the various dancing sessions in the Piazza. Wish we were back on the ship right now.

The one I know about is STARBOARD side outside on the Promenade deck. It was right under our cabin on the Emerald deck. No smoke ever drifted up to our balcony (Thank G-d).:D

Any new updates on the Victory?
in Carnival Cruise Lines
Posted
Thanks for answering, Sea Legs. My granddaughter's cruise on Victory is tomorrow. She was hoping it would be a cruise director she liked from a previous Carnival cruise.
