  1. We've tried both traditional seating (usually late, early is too early and there's usually less or no children at late seating) and YTD - we found that we like the traditional. Reasons are that we like having the same wait staff that know we want iced tea and have it ready, or having the remainder of our bottle of wine on the table, not having to wait for a table, being able to just go straight to our table, not having to decide when to eat (sometimes a problem!). I know you can ask for the same wait staff in YTD, some nights that doesn't happen tho.

But I still really wanted to go on a cruise, so I started looking at Carnival. I just did not want to do Carnival. I had heard so many mixed reviews. Several people talked about Carnival being a “party” cruise. That is just not my family. As I said in our cast list, I’m a pastor. We do not drink at all, and I am uncomfortable abound people who are drunk and have lost control of themselves. However my principal/boss had good things to say about her experience last year over spring break. She and I are very much alike in our personalities. So I decided it would be okay to give up WDW one year to give a cruise a try.

The worst drunk behavior I have ever witnessed on a cruise was on a 7 day Royal Caribbean cruise at the end of August. So much for the "short cruises are the party cruises" myth. We rarely notice anyone out of control. I have found that most of the people who talk about Carnival being the "party cruise" have never actually been on a Carnival cruise themselves! It's like kids saying "I don't like that" to foods they have never tried. Ignore them, they don't have a clue what they're talking about.

  3. Thanks! Yeah, the reason we chose this is to see these places. That's the most important part to us. We're not big on needing fancy dinners, just good food. A little entertainment is nice too.

When do they do this parade you're talking about?

They'll post the time in the newsletter (forget what RC calls theirs). There were 2 parades on our 7 day cruise. We were 1 deck above for one of them and got a different view, but I liked being on the same deck better.

  4. We've done a couple of RC cruises and enjoyed them. I think you'll find the two lines more similar than different. Don't miss the parade on the Promenade deck - get there a few minutes early to get a good spot to see everything. I liked the big open inside Promenade deck. I think the food was better on Carnival, shows were better on RC, just my opinion tho. We go on any cruise expecting to have a good time, and we do - even with all the itinerary changes that have been thrown at us through the years.

  5. I second Bonaire! Wonderful. Roatan comes in 2nd - we love the Maya Key excursion, the drop-off there is amazing, and a great lunch, too. The reef up around Belize is still pretty good, the coral is dying off just about everywhere tho, I've noticed a huge difference in the past 10 years. For snorkeling I'd do the Cozumel, Belize, Roatan and usually Grand Cayman (sometimes Costa Maya) - a great itinerary. Booked for that one again 3-18.

  6. We have heard that Belize was unsafe for years, but on one of our cruises my husband and I walked out of the port area down through Belize City to the water taxi terminal, we were going to Caye Caulker. Everyone we met was friendly and courteous. Several asked us if we needed directions, we told them we were headed to the water taxi and knew where we were going (we had a map and it was easy to follow), but everyone pointed us in the right direction anyway! We never felt uncomfortable. Yes, it's a very poor area, but the friendliness was outstanding.

  7. I am sorry to say if this is your 7th sailing or you will be going over 70 days onboard whatever status you embark with is what you are for the full cruise ..... your next sailing you will presented with your pin and your key card will say platinum....Cunard's words"no mid-voyage promotions , you will receive the pin on your first voyage after achieving membership level " enjoy!!:)

Yes, Carnival Corp owns Cunard, but different rules for different lines - this is one of those rules. I turned Platinum in the middle of a cruise, got a Platinum card and all the perks from day 1 of that cruise. Like others have said, check your docs, they should say "Priority". Enjoy!

  8. Queen Conch is a protected species in the Marine Park areas of Turks and Caicos. Taking shells that don't have live animals in them from outside the park areas is legal.. just make sure you know where the Marine Park areas are - check online for maps, and make sure you don't have any live animals in your shells, either conch or hermit crabs. Just because you can get away with doing it without getting caught doesn't make it OK, not that I think you would do that. I live in an area where live shelling is illegal, and I see people taking bags of live shells all the time - drives me crazy. There are people who call the local police and I've seen them come and write tickets... $500 per shell can add up with a bag full of sand dollars.

  9. and happen to be the person who found my camera at Great Stirrup Cay and turned it in....THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

I don't have any idea how that thing jumped out of my bag, but it did! I realized it was gone when we got onto the tender. My DH got off the tender and went back to where we were sitting to look for it but it wasn't there, our friends who were still there hadn't seen it either. I was sure I would never see it again. I went to Guest Services a bit later... no camera but I filled out a form, just in case. I was surprised and thrilled when they called me back an hour later and told me the camera had been turned in!!! There are good people in this world! Thank you so much, now all the embarrassing pictures of all my friends from that weekend are not lost!!

  10. I second Nachi Cocom in Cozumel. The best beach we've found there because they limit the number of people they admit. You need to book online before you go (google, you'll find it). They'll take a deposit and you pay the remainder when you get there. Carlos is the best waiter!

In Costa Maya we usually just either grab a taxi or take the bus down to Mahajual and hang out on the beach. You can get free beach chairs if you buy food and drink from the restaurant/bar that owns them. Find the place you want (we like Faro) and plop down, they'll find you. Taxi back to the port when you're ready, taxis are easy to find. It's only a few minutes drive, you can see the ship from the beach.

  11. DH and I both use one. Our doctor told us that the filtered water on a ship is OK to use for a week. Or, if you aren't OK with that, you can contact the Guests with Disabilities dept. and they can help you. Check out the Carnival website for them. We've taken ours on many cruises and used ship water and never had a problem.
