  1. Hi everyone…

We will be on Iona Jan 2nd - Jan 14th.. round the Med…

Hoping for a bit of advice on which shore excursions you might recommend for Gibraltar, Alicante, Barcelona, Cadiz and Lisbon…

We are in the older age range shall we say… (  well older on the outside anyway 😉 ).. not brilliant on walking too far… but ok generally..also, like the shops etc…

We have looked at the excursions on-line but would really appreciate some feedback… we also thought maybe there would be shuttle buses or perhaps the HoHo buses but realise that might depend on where we dock… ?..

    thanks in advance…

  2. Hi everyone…

just to say check-in opened today… and… really glad to say I have managed to check-in, and print out everything… including… ( drum roll please ) photos… and after all that worry too…😵💫😀..

The photo link on the check-in photo pages said ‘ browse ‘ and took me to our iPad photo page and it actually downloaded ok onto the website, I only had to try it twice…

just a word to anyone who might need it… I had to go on Google chrome before I could access the luggage tags etc so that might be useful if anyone else is trying to do that as well…

so hope everyone else has a similar check-in ..

Thanks all round for the advice and support 💐🍾..

  3. Hi everyone…

I have noticed that it is now a requirement to download a ‘ passport ‘ style photo when we check in….

I don’t recall ever having to do this for a cruise before and I am not the best with this type of thing…

so, hoping someone who has done this can advise me on the best way to go about it….

Our check-in is soon and I hope to be ready to ‘ go ‘ as soon as it opens… so I know we are ‘ sorted ‘ so to speak.. I know they could take  a photo at the docks if needed but I am hoping to speed up the procedure as much as I can… ( as we all are.. ).

I do use an iPad and a PC but not to any great extent…so any simple, straightforward advice would be really appreciated…

    eg…

Does the check-in provide a link of some sort ?..

Do we need a photo of each of us ( my husband and I only ) ?..

sorry if this sounds a bit feeble 😨… but thanks in advance for any advice..

  4. Hi everyone…

just a thought… having looked through some different Cruise Critic cruise sections and not yet spotted any other postings on this important issue….perhaps the sooner these new concerns re cruisers being disembarked ( whether positive or not ), and the associated travel insurance cover for non-positive issues is drawn to a wider public attention the better….

If it is discussed in the main papers or broadcast on TV, say travel shows etc both cruise companies and travel insurance groups will ‘ have ‘ to address the issues, and fast, or lose a great deal of money and goodwill.

Also this would help inform more travellers so they can make an informed decision re future bookings etc…

take care everyone in these troubled times

  5. Hi AndyMichelle,

Thanks for the good thoughts.. yes we were aware of the traffic issues but we are going with Eavesway coaches so hopefully they will have factored that into the timing...

We are being picked up at 7:30am so let’s hope so anyway. ouch!!.

    thanks again

  6. Hi there emam,

just wondered how the ‘ norovirus ‘ problem is going?.. hope it hasn’t caused you any problems on your holiday... We are due on Britannia on Saturday so a bit concerned if it is still an issue...would appreciate you updating us plus any comments.

It will be our first time on Britannia ( and P&O also ) so have been watching your posts with interest.

    Thanks

  7. Hi everyone,

we usually have the Internet on cruises ( yes... really sad I know but we like it, and our grandson likes to keep in touch ).. but whilst the Internet package looks reasonable we wondered if the fiords themselves made reception poor and / or erratic.

So wondered if anyone could advise us if they have tried this and how it worked for them.

    many thanks in advance.

  8. Hi..

Have you thought of ' Eavesway Coaches ' ?.

Like you we live a fair distance and we have used them several times, they are super luxury coaches, wi-fi etc. They have good pickups ( we are in Leeds ).. Never had any issues..they take care of your luggage at the docks as well...

worth you looking up on the net anyway, just to compare..

Hope you get lots of replies so you can compare...but each to his own of course..

  9. hello..

whilst we probably won't spend much time in our cabin I wondered what channels are available on our TV on the Britannia ?... I realise in the fiords the reception will prob be poor though...so also can we use a USB stick in the to set ?.. Have tried to find this out but cannot as yet so sorry to bother everyone... Thanks

  10. Hi...thanks everyone... It is great to know about the cakes as well...will follow your advice pete14 and try the Costa out first though..Really looking forward to our cruise and hoping it will be the first of many on the Britannia ( or possibly the Iona as that looks super too ). We usually go on R Caribbean but liked the look of the Britannia.

    Thanks again.

  11. Hello... We have just booked our first P&O cruise and will be on on Britannia in June. We always enjoy a Costa coffee and wondered if anyone knows how much a latte is, small or medium. Thanks in advance.

  12. We've just been on the Navigator. We played the first session of Bingo and it was $29 for 4 games. Before we started I asked the girls how the prizes were calculated and was told they only kept back money to replace the books etc... We are sure there were about 120 players so approximately $3900 taken in as we could see some bought more than one ' book '....the prizes totalled just short of $1300... so Royal Caribbean kept about two thirds of the money.. As said what a rip-off... Whilst we agree Bingo is part of the entertainment this leaves a nasty taste in the mouth...We should have been told the truth unless of course the flimsy pieces of paper cost over $2500...

We did not play again and will not.. I mentioned this in our after cruise survey although I don't expect it will be considered worth a reply.

  13. Hi everyone,

We are on Navigator in June, calling at Copenhagen, Tallin, Oslo and other ports...

We did a similar cruise on the Brilliance a few years ago and did a lot of walking but now think a shuttle bus or similar would be best for us so wondered if RC offered a shuttle up towards the Tivoli Gardens etc and if so what the cost was please...had considered the HoHo bus but don't think we'd use it enough....

Realise each cruise is different and time changes prices but would appreciate any comments...

On the Brilliance cruise we did use the shuttle in Helsinki as we were a bit too far for walking there and it worked well...it's just...well getting lazy or older one of the two...maybe both ;)

Apologies if there is another forum or if this has been asked before...

  14. This Summer we went on a last minute Cruise Maritime ( Magellan ) cruise to the fiords...big mistake so probably served us right...

The muster there was like something out of a ' carry on ' film. When the alarms went we all had to return to our cabins, get our life jackets, walk up three flights of stairs, no lifts working of course ( as would be correct of course ) but no help evident for those with poor mobility, sticks etc. Met in a restaurant, put on the life jackets, put our hands on the shoulder of the person in front and walk like that up three more flights of stairs ( during which time the ships photographer kept dancing about the line as we went taking photos of us and telling us to smile..) a further outside flight of stairs. Waited for a pep talk which included that if we had to jump we must go down to not more than three decks high and most importantly...keep our legs together as we jumped.!!!! No mention of lifeboats.

We do recognise the importance of the muster and always adhere to it but let's face it..if the alarms go who would go back down to their cabin and as we were told...Get warm clothes on, find their medication and passports and then go back up to the muster point...the ship could have sunk in that time..

Thank goodness we are back on RC for our next two cruises
