Everyone in our group is getting the social wifi package so we can use Facebook messenger to keep in touch with each other. I can't get the Carnival Hub app to download on my mom's phone (it's an old phone). Do you have to have the hub app installed to use the wifi?

Whatever she feels is best. Everything gets converted to electronic (slots) or chips at the tables.

Everybody's strategy is different. We'll take $100 charged to our ship board account. Then immediately transfer it to the Players Bank.

We did a cash account for our sign and sail card. So does she just take cash to the casino and they apply it to her sign and sail card for the slot machines? She said she knows nothing about the tables or other games and would only be doing slot machines.

Why not just pay $5 per day for the social media plan and just use Facebook Messenger to "text" each other? You get more for your money with that plan vs the Hub App.

I'm not a gambler, but my daughter is 19 and will be old enough to go into the casino for the first time. What denominations of paper money are best? 1's? 5's?

One thing we did notice was that larger parties (multiple families) were not seated until everyone in their party arrived. We always heard complaints about this from them.

That's the rule for any restaurant I've ever been to here where I live.

WHAT?! Is this on every ship? We will be on the Fantasy.

We are a party of 9. So do we just head to the dining room when we want and just wait as though we were going to a restaurant on land? Is the wait usually long?

We cruised Fantasy in January when my girls were 13 and 14. We hit horrible weather, it was cold, there weren't many teens on the ship and unfortunately because of the weather, the upper decks were only open two out of our 5 days. They went to the teen club a few times, but there was hardly ever anyone in there.

I love a quiet ship with few people. Unfortunately, preteens/teens get bored on a quiet ship. They DID have some good shows though. And they also joined in on the dance lessons that were offered a few times.

Most of our party aren't heavy drinkers so we chose Tropicante. It's got really good reviews on TripAdvisor and I like the fact that the hours of operation depend on the times the last ship leaves. Our ship is in port from 1-9. We will be there next week.

How much is it to get a cab to Mr. Sanchos? We are going next week and there are 9 of us. We can split up if it's cheaper.

When you disembark your ship there will be a trolley parked near your gangway waiting to take passenger ashore. The trolley is free and requires no pre-arranging. Just hop onboard. I HIGHLY recommend taking this trolley rather than walking. Not only is the Costa Maya pier one of the longest I've ever seen, but it's usually very windy there. So windy that I saw a couple young girls who decided to walk ashore rather than take the trolley, and as we went past them they looked as though they were about to be blown overboard. Play it safe and take the trolley.

 

Once you're ashore there is a large terminal building with shops, restaurants, bars, etc. Enter the building and proceed directly towards the back. When you're getting close to the very back of the building, you'll see a sign that says "Taxis------>". Follow the direction of that sign, and You'll find yourself outdoors at the back of the building. Here there is a taxi stand against the building with a chalkboard listing their prices to different destinations. Purchase a ONE-WAY ticket to Majahul($3). I was then instructed to "stand in line with a group over there" which I did. A few minutes later, a large (charter-type) bus pulled up and everyone from my group started to board it. I mentioned to the man who was standing next to me that I had bought a TAXI ticket and was hesitant to board the bus. He assured me that this was the transportation to majahul and seem to know what he was talking about so I boarded.

 

The ride was only about 10 minutes. The bus driver announced our first stop for anyone who wanted to disembark at Tequilla Beach Club. Knowing my plan to explore majahul & the beach, my new guy friend told me to stay on until we reach the town center. so I did. Just a few minutes later the driver announced we were in Majahul at the town center. I recognized several places that I had seen posted on this board and on www.webshots.com so was comfortable knowing that this is where I need to be getting off.

 

The entire length of the town is only about 6-8 blocks long, has only one main street (actually a dirt road) is all beach on one side of the road and stores, bars, and restaurants on the other.

 

The entire beach is lined with palapa-style bar/reataurants which will provide you with a lounge chair (they call them sunbeds) as long as you purchase your food & drinks from their establishment. I took the recommendation of several posters on this board and decided to have my lunch & drinks at TAPAS. My waiter showed me to a nice umbrella table right on the beach and then took my order. Their food & drinks were delicious and very reasonably priced. After lunch my waiter showed me to a lounge chair that would be mine for the remainder of the day. There were beach massages available in that area on the beach as well as a strolling mariachi band. The water was very calm and shallow out several yards. It kind of reminded me of that beach on the Corona tv commercial.

 

Tip: If you go to webshots.com & do a search for Majahul you'll find several pictures that your fellow cruisers have posted to give you a better idea of the village.

 

When you're ready to go back to your ship: you'll find a taxi stand on the main street (beachside) where you can purchase your return ride to the terminal building (this time only $2 and in a yellow cab)

 

I found the people & business owners of Majahul to be extremely polite & helpful.

Is this information still accurate? I know it's from several years ago but it was so detailed that I was going to print it out to take with me when we leave next week on our cruise.

I seriously doubt it. That's the one venue where they actually have people standing at the door checking age. The best thing would've been just to schedule the cruise two weeks later.

Unfortunately we didn't get to choose what week we are cruising. This cruise is a gift from my parents. It's my family, my sisters family and our parents. It was the only week everyone was available to go.

My daughter isn't into the party scene but I know she would have liked to have been able to at least go with us into the disco if we choose to go. Oh well.

We are cruising in two weeks and my daughter will be only 2 weeks shy of turning 18. She's very mature and it really stinks that she is the only one in our group that is under age 18. I would love for her to be able to hang out in the disco with the rest of the family. I too wonder if they ever allow someone so close to turning 18 into the disco or if there is absolutely no chance in that happening.

Maya Chan messaged me back and they said they adjust their hours based on the ships in port. Unfortunately for us, they are overbooked the day we will be there so we've decided to take a cab to Mahuahual and just do our own thing.

There is a tram inside the port and taxis right outside of the entrance. We are taking a taxi to Mahuahual.

So our group has decided on Maya Chan. BUT...we just realized that we are in port from 1pm-9pm. What are Maya Chans hours?

Do we have to book this ahead of time or is this something that we can book when we get on the island?

We used the public bus and explored the island ourselves and then we also did a stingray city tour with Moby Dick Tours. They were great! If you explore the island on your own, we went to cemetery beach. You get dropped off in front of a cemetery, walk along side the cemetery and come out to a really nice beach. The water was beautiful and we could see our ship.

I bought an electric steamer before I discovered they aren't allowed. I started to try and sneak it but decided to just wear wrinkled clothes instead. I don't have money to be throwing away.

Website details are not very consistent. Prices are in pesos but will give you some details of what is available. We haven't been yet, but I understand it to be small laid back location, (although lounger comfort seem to be an issue). We are thinking of trying it next visit to Costa Maya because it is cheap and easy to get to.

Otherwise I will return to Maya Chan.

Directly, but I don't think you need to pre-book Blue Kay. Both have websites with details.

Everytime I search Blue Kay it brings me to a hotel.

Do I book these directly or are they offered through Carnival?
