Kellie Poodle Posted August 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2012 Can one of you seasoned Venice travelers give me directions of how to get to the Old Jewish Ghetto from the Marittima cruise ship dock? We will purchase Vaporetta tickets in advance and will take the people mover to P. Roma to get the Vaporetta. I have a map of the area, but no information on which line or what stops. mapleleaves Posted August 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2012 You don't need a vaporetto to reach the ghetto. Take the People Mover from the pier to Piazaale Roma, walk across the square to the Grand Canal, where you cross the big new bridge, take a right after crossing, walk a block to the train station, then follow these directions: http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/top-11-venetian-ghetto.htm 10-15 minutes from pier to ghetto

hylasgirl Posted August 20, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2012 We wandered through the Jewish area last time we were there and it was such a great day! Enjoy!
Rare Hlitner Posted August 20, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 20, 2012 If you going to walk over to the Ghetto you might want to look at the Jewish Museum web site (just google Venice Jewish Museum). For many, the highlight of the Ghetto is getting into 1 or more of the old synagoges. These are not normally open for visitors unless you are on an authorized tour. The Jewish Museum has tours (much cheaper then doing a private tour) that leave every hour and it is worthwhile if you really have an interest in the history.
