jo lou Posted November 21, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2017 We are considering a Caribbean cruise on the Marella Discovery in January....we are new to this ship although have been on many Thomson ships - mainly Dream and Celebration. Any advice would be appreciated on the cabins, particularly those on deck 2/3 inside, or outside (but with window not porthole). Also the dining seating arrangements in the waiter service restaurant - is it shared tables with different people on each evening (like the Dream/Celebration) and finally is shower head in the bathroom flexible and not fixed. Any responses would be much appreciated together with any other information that may be useful. With many thanks. :):):):)
Pensioncruiser Posted November 21, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 21, 2017 Hi Jo Lou can't help with the cabins you are looking at but like you we have cruised with Thomson for many years and were on Discovery this year for our first time. The seating is the same as the other ships with the exception of when you arrive, they give you a number and you are shown to that table. The shower head in our cabin which was on deck 8, was flexible. It's a nice ship and we are on her again next February. Just ask if you have any other questions and I will try to help 😎 Sent from my b1-720 using Forums mobile app
Sheila49 Posted November 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 21, 2017 Hi Jo Lou. We have had an inside on deck 2 on D1 and an outside on deck 3 on D2. The inside was a good size with plenty of storage. The bathroom and shower were very small but ok. The bed was made up as a double but with one side against the wall which was not ideal. I think singles on either side might have been better. The outside on deck three was a very good cabin with a picture window. All outsides cabins on deck three have a window but a few at either end on deck two have a porthole so we booked one on deck three to be sure of the window. In the restaurants you can ask for a table for two or you can share. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare dronnygirl Posted November 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2017 We booked late and were on deck 2 outside. We were a little apprehensive but it turned out well. The cabin was average size and had plenty of storage. The great thing was we were 1 floor above the ships exit so very handy to drop our bags when we came back on board and then up on deck for a drink! Enjoy your cruise:):)
campolady Posted November 22, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 22, 2017 We haven't sailed on Discovery yet (roll on 6th May) but have been on Discovery 2 - identical lay out - twice this year in an inside cabin on deck 2. As we like to be midships and close to central lifts (my husband has mobility issues) we booked cabin 2053 in May and it was excellent - by far the most spacious we have had on any of the Thomson ships we have sailed on previously (Dream, Spirit and Majesty) with more than ample storage space, a 2 seater settee and very comfortable twin beds; the shower head was flexible. We wanted the same cabin again in October but it was already booked so took the one next door 2055 - were a bit apprehensive as this was next to a void and we worried there may be some machinery noise but it was perfect. We would be more than happy to have either cabin again and have already booked 2055 on Discovery for May. We always eat in the MDRs and always have a table for 2; other people preferred to share with different people each night. Out of a total of 21 nights on board this year we only had to wait for a table once - and that was only for 15 minutes. We have thoroughly enjoyed all our Thomson cruises but think the ship standard has gone up considerably with the addition of the Discoveries.
