CoopColbie Posted December 12, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 12, 2017 Anyone know if the Jewel is scheduled to have any refurbishments undertaken over the next year or so? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Belmont Babe Posted December 12, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2017 Dry dock in Sydney, 7 - 17th March 2018, but I have it on good authority its very low budget.
CoopColbie Posted December 14, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted December 14, 2017 Thanks ... I was kinda hoping she would go and get a waterslide fitted. Obviously that's not going to happen.
SinbadThePorter Posted December 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 21, 2017 Thanks ... I was kinda hoping she would go and get a waterslide fitted. Obviously that's not going to happen. With the Golden Princess moving across to P&O in 2020 there probably isn't much of a case for investment in the Jewel. She'll get refurbished by whoever buys her. cruiserguy135 Posted January 21, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2018 If they fixed up the Pacific Jewel, it would be my favourite P&O ship to sail on.
Belmont Babe Posted January 26, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2018 Reported on another site on Facebook that she's been sold to Oceanic Group to be the first Cartoon Network cruise ship,

Any idea what will be getting done then? I'm thinking of a mini cruise later in the year.
Belmont Babe Posted January 30, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 30, 2018 Given the budget, I imagine only mechanical, electrical and plumbing maintenance. Very little in the way of redecorating, or upgrading public rooms or cabins. I am not convinced that the P&O statement re the future of Pacific Jewel, says much to refute the idea that she will leave the fleet sooner rather than later. If they expected her to be staying until the Golden Princess comes over to P&O in 2020, she's going to be in a very poor state, decor -wise, by then. Actually if you read between the lines they state that it's inevitable the smaller ships will be replace by larger ones - also the Jewel's bookings finish late next year. Probably when it will be sold I'd say. I just hope it's still OK for my little 3 nighter later this year :)
CoopColbie Posted January 31, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted January 31, 2018 Isn’t the Jewel considered a small ship? Keeping her in the fleet and giving her a proper makeover (she was the first to get the current ‘makeovers’ in the P&O fleet - so scheduled to be first off the blocks for anything new) would feed into current trends. The dry dock is 10 days - the Dawn dry dock was 14 days and in that time it got The Pantry, waterslides and a significant refurb. 10 day seems likely me a long time for just engine and electrical updates. Scottygirl1 Posted January 31, 2018 #12 Share Posted January 31, 2018 I hope you are right - yes, in 10 days they could do a lot to the interior! It will be interesting to see. Personally I'm sure they will on sell her in a year or so.
CoopColbie Posted February 14, 2018 Author #13 Share Posted February 14, 2018 P&O have put some info up on FB regarding the Jewel's refurbishment. Some of the details include: - focus on public areas, providing guests with more spaces to sit and relax - Connextions is being totally redesigned with a summer-inspired pub theme (not too dissimilar to The Explore Hotel on Pacific Explorer) - Not getting a water slide - Replacing Luna with Shell & Bones Seafood Restaurant (with grill and vegetarian options) - There are some photos with the post and it looks like they are putting in some lawn at the back of one of the decks (where they have those empty-spaces) for lawn games, and the Oasis is getting updated fittings. Plus it will be getting the new 'Explorer' style paint-job.
