cjdixon4 Posted May 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2018 Hubby and I along with our friends will be sailing out of Seattle to Alaska in late August. Anyone who has done this cruise in August, can you tell me what the weather was like? Is it cooler than in the earlier Summer months? Just need to know how to pack/dress for the season! Thanks for suggestions:). :) :):)
InternetAgeTraveler Posted May 23, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 23, 2018 Our cruise a few years ago back was nice (except Ketchikan) but it can vary a lot. What we noticed most doing the same tour in June was the daylight hours were reduced in August. See review in signature.
WA Bubbles Posted May 23, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 23, 2018 Weather is very unpredictable, we have done many AK cruises, various months between May to Sept. There is always a chance of rain, in August you may have nice sunny mid 70's low 80's or rain at mid 70's. I would take a light weight sweather and light weight jacket. Layer... Shorts can be worn, basically it will depend on your body temperature. If you can't stand the cold you will have to bring a little warmer clothes. We go on HAL and they keep the temperature on the ship for you to wear shorts, unless you go outside around the open decks.
skrufy Posted May 23, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 23, 2018 We sailed early September last year and encountered cool ( cold Glacier Bay ),warm, sunny, cloudy, foggy, and rainy weather. Ketchikan, partly cloudy and cool. Icy Strait Point, cloudy and cool. Juneau, drizzle, and light rain most of the day, foggy and around 50 degrees. Skagway, Same as Juneau. Glacier Bay, drizzle most of the day, foggy and cold. Sitka, partly cloudy with sun at times, temp. around 55 degrees. We are going back this August also and packing the same cloths for all types of weather. You can find Alaska packing lists on Google. This will point out what you will need to cover all weather situations.
Dancing Shoes Posted May 23, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 23, 2018 We go on HAL and they keep the temperature on the ship for you to wear shorts, unless you go outside around the open decks. Thanks for this info. We will bring our flip flops. No, we won't wear these to dinner at MDR.;p To the OP, be sure and pack a water proof rain jacket. For Glacier Bay: Hat, gloves, and/or scarf.
