One thing they don't mention when you win something.....the taxes.

I won a Royal Carribean Mexican Cruise years ago.

At the end of the year we got a tax statement. It was for the top dollar price in the brochure, a price no one actually pays ! That is a bigger tax break for whoever donates it.

I get emails from different hotels to win nights at their suites. I would never enter now that I know how the taxes work.

The taxes are based on your tax bracket. The amount assessed for your cruise is like pure income added on to whatever you make.

Who here really believes that MSC has their act together enough to send out 1099s reporting taxable income earned on free cruise giveaways? I sure don't!

WHen you get your tax statement w/ an exorbitant value, if you can show proof of a lower value-- THAT is what you have to pay taxes on. I won a bunch of stuff on a game show including a car and I provided copies of newspaper ads, and an estimated cost form from a local car dealer. SO i'd make copies of any website w/ the value that you would actually pay were you to book this cruise. Just because the company says the value is $6,000 or something, that doesn't mean that is current market rate.

I have also won a Msc cruise. We sail on March 21st, 2009. How many of us are they. Since the reviews are so bad, is this why they are so many winners? Let me know what ya think.

Where did you enter a contest for a free cruise?

There was an advertisment on Orchestra page, but it has been over for awhile. I, too, entered every day. I didn't win, but we sailed on the Orchestra 2/14-2/21. Had a great time.

We just returned and had the most amazing time. I will try to get a review done in the next few days. So much to catch up on with leaving 3 teenagers behind while DH and I took this cruise!
