tring Posted August 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2018 Does anyone know where Fred docks in Gent and Rotterdam? We have booked Boudicca for 31st March 2019, which also goes to Antwerp and Amsterdam, but I think Fred docks centrally in both of those. Also do you need shuttle buses in Gent or Rotterdam? WeeCountyMan Posted August 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2018 We did the Chocolates, Diamonds & Canals (or whatever it was called) cruise in June/July. Antwerp is right alongside near the centre, easy walk in. Ghent is an industrial port berthing, about 3 miles from city, a shuttle bus job. Can't answer for Rotterdam - but Amsterdam is quite central, although it requires a modest walk in to reach the rail station and canal boats etc. Beware the cyclists !!! BTW - if you want to visit the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam, you must order tickets for the specific day and timeslot in question beforehand. We arrived without and were unable to enter, as were other similarly uneducated punters.

We have been to Antwerp on Marco Polo, which is smaller than any of Fred's ships, but were hoping we would be in the same location as it was right in the centre - so sounds good. We are overnight in Antwerp and Amsterdam, so will be easy to get off the ship at night. We always like nights in port, even though our younger days have past. We have been to Amsterdam a number of times but never got around to going to the Anne Frank house, so this could be the time as it will not be the main holiday season. I am thinking it would be nice to go out of the city centre of Amsterdam since the main rail station and a lot of bus stops are handy. If we do that the first day we will not have to worry about rushing back to the ship either. May even look at transport to places near Antwerp as well. Had been to Gent for a day when on holiday in Belgium, so looking forward to a return to there as well. Rotterdam is our only 'first', but the others are all great places. Hope you enjoyed your cruise, Barbara
