newtocruisenett Posted November 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2009 I'm aware of the Jewel going into dry dock, for refurbishment/refitting etc... but was wondering if any of you can tell me how big/how far will they go for the makeover? Thought some of you may have first hand experience with this from sister ship P Dawn? I've looked at everything I can find of OV2 and would like to know do they also refurbish the cabins/suites? In other words I would like to know do the ships become 'like brand new'? inside and out? just can't help myself I want to know everything :p Nett
Brushtail Posted November 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2009 I'm interested in this, too. :) We cruise on her on 1 Feb and I am hoping they see sense and take out the spa from the Dome area and put in a nightclub like the Dawn.

cookieau Posted November 9, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Hi Brushtail I believe the Spa area is there to stay ..... however looking at the plans there will be many bars and other eating areas although some will be charged...
AuzzieCruiser Posted November 9, 2009 #6 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Having a look at all the pics of the OV2/PJ, to me personally, she doesn't need that much work!! All the bars and public lounges look to be in good nick. Some might like a tone down in colours, but I like the scheme as it is. I'd be interested to see any changes. Riffraff Posted November 9, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I think Ocean Village Two had a big refurbishment in 2007, so a lot of the interior fittings and cabin fittings would be fairly new anyway, so like Jarrod says those parts of her don't need that much work. I hope they put photos up like Princess did when Dawn Princess was having her refit, it's interesting to see how they rip out the old and put in the new! Love my cruises Posted November 9, 2009 #8 Share Posted November 9, 2009 When they converted the Regal Princess to Pacific Dawn they did change all the televisions over to the flat lcd televisions, added extra 3 & 4 beds to some of the original twin cabins to convert them into quads, moved the casino from where it originally was in the Dome to Dolphin Deck, converted the movie theatre to the kids clubs Turtle cover and Shark Shack. These were just to name a few of the changes that I can think of that were done during the drydock. As for the Jewel - it'll be interesting to see what else they do as the kids club are already established and in a really good spot, they are creating a new nightclub (or hopefully two), maybe some new carpet and furnishings too ;). Single Cruiser Posted November 9, 2009 #11 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Having sailed on her earlier this year the public areas are all in a good condition. The spa is there to stay, we tried to get rid of it and instead they sent the ship to you as Australians are more likely to use it!! It was under-used! However she is only in dry dock for a couple of weeks and I think the key areas appear to be: Conversion of the Waterfront restaurant from Buffet to traditional waitered style. Ripping out all the serveries, then it would need all new carpets/furniture etc.. Creation of the Oasis Adult only area which looks like on one of the large rear decks, probably deck 10. Creation of a nightclub - it looks like they are converting the smallish teenage area deck 14 foreward, just behind the spa The chocolate cafe which looking at the plan on the blog actually looks to be replacing the sunweaver bar on deck 12 foreward Creation of a new teen area as the nightclub would replace their current area. External re-paint of ship/lifeboats/tenders into P&O colours I'm guessing you don't want UK plug sockets so they'll have to redo the electrics in all the cabins. The TVs in the cabins are very, very old (14inch portable with buttons on front!) so they'll have to replace them with LCDs. The engines are in need of an overhaul so I think there is quite a lot of work behind the scenes below deck including normal maintenance. But the main public lounges they probably only need a bit of sprucing up. The main show lounge does not have traditional theatre seating so not sure if they will convert that! Single Cruiser Posted November 9, 2009 #13 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Thanks, the engines are in need of an overhaul  the mind bogles :p They have been repeatedly failing over the last few months. We had two power cuts whilst I was onboard and she was forced to sail at reduced speed as they were only use one of the two diesel-electric engines.. Itachi Posted November 14, 2009 #21 Share Posted November 14, 2009 thx for the pics. So thats what the stabilisers look like... I swear they had to put new ones on PD after we got off last sept lol... we went through a massive storm and the captain we had (he was great) always tried to make people smile and you know.. bring the positive out in things when the clouds a black, rain is thick and waves coming almost onto the deck you walk on. We heard a massive creaking/bang/snapping off sound halfway through his update on the storm and I was expecting him to say "Attention passengers, this is the captain from the bridge, our stabilisers have just fallen off" It was an experience... we wont let it stop us from future cruises though. Having said that we booked our next cruise for 2010 in april this year and about a month ago my family and I were watching our thousand photo slideshow/video journal I made of all our footage... we got to "the storm" and after the whole thing was finished there was silence and then after a minute someone said... what have we done - booking another cruise after that. As bad and as rough as it was looking back it is part of the experience and I will never forget it! Anyway, enough of my rambling.. i hope they have lots of pictures - before and after, etc
