CynthiaRI Posted June 20, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2018 I understand the basics of tipping and the automatic tip practice. However, I have a question about additional tipping. If I want to tip our room steward(s) and waiter at the beginning of the crossing, how and when would I do that? First night of dinner, after dinner is concluded? Leave tip in the room the first night or hand directly to room steward? Thanks!
BlueRiband Posted June 20, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2018 FWIW, I give any additional amount on the LAST night. It's either handed to him directly or I put it in an envelope with his name written on it. (No doubt then that it's for him and not cash that was forgotten to be returned to the safe.) cruiserking Posted June 20, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 20, 2018 I always give the tip to the steward in person. I have on occasion tipped the steward at the start of the cruise and do so at which point they come in to introduce themselves. Jonathan

We will have 3 rooms and even though we reserved 9 months in advance, they are not right next to each other. Very close. I am hopeful that all of our rooms will have the same steward.
