RMS Olympic Posted November 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2017 I am planning on sailing the new Saga Discovery in Sept of 2019. I have sailed on German and Greek ships in Europe but not a British vessel. Could you tell me what cultural differences I will experience on board? Saga has a reputation as being an old folks home gone to sea....is that valid? Do Brits in general dress for the evening meal (coat and tie) each night? One last question....what is the weather like in London the first week of September. Thank you Tom
jocap Posted November 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 10, 2017 Lucky you- we're really interested in this new ship- the planners took cruiser's ideas on board, such as wrap around prom, many singles cabins, launderettes etc. I've not used them before, but have several forum friends who always go with them, because they offer transport from home, and insurance is included, which can make an enormous difference. Culturally... well, English is spoken... :D... I hear that the food is very good, and I believe that there are some formal nights.
jocap Posted November 10, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 10, 2017 Oh, weather... it's always changeable in the UK! Sept can be the best month of the year, but also can have tail ends of Caribbean hurricanes, so you might have a windy day or two; generally it's fine and warm, just as the children return to school... RMS Olympic Posted November 28, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted November 28, 2017 A follow up question... When passengers disembark in Dover, is it early enough to get to the airport for a flight before noon time? I do not know if transit time from the port to either London Airport....whether it takes more than 2 hours? Airport arrival time for the return flight would not only dictate which air carrier I fly, but which city if fly out of in the states. Thanks in advance.
