Carolgold Posted September 2, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2018 Cruising the Mediterranean Sept. 2019 with pre and post days in Venice and Rome. Can’t seem to find good travel insurance with no penalty for canceling for any reason. Not foreseeing any reason, but with elderly parent at home, one never knows! It’s my Husband and my 25th Wedding Anniversary, and I don’t want to mess it up with the wrong coverage selection. Any hotel recommendations would be greatly appreciated too! Thank you in advance, Carol:)

Thank you in advance, Carol:) Welcome to CruiseCritic! :) We suggest you contact www.TripInsuranceStore.com CALL them so you can discuss several choices. They are a travel insurance broker, and deal with several vetted insurers. We've used them, and usually purchase coverage through Travel Insured. We need two specifics: a) no exclusion for pre-existing medical conditions, and b) CFAR because of very elderly MIL (approaching 100). We also might continue getting CFAR later. Given the uncertainties of the global situation, we might want to cancel or interrupt a trip if some situation gets dicey, even if the USA State Department hasn't issued certain warnings, in which case, regular insurance would probably cover. (But we almost encountered that situation, and it turned out that the wording of any "problem area" coverage is SO restrictive that it would not have "worked" at all. We were truly startled, and glad that we had already changed the trip just in case.) Now, for your Parent, you know that IF a physician gives a grim diagnosis/prognosis, regular coverage may suffice. For us, at MIL's age, if she said, "Oh, I'm not feeling quite right" - something she *never* says - then... we'd want to stay home or come back. Most third party CFAR only covers 75% cash back, which is better than 0%! You'll get a good intro by calling TIS, and note any deadlines for insuring an initial deposit IF you want pre-existing condition coverage. (They should be open this afternoon from 2-4pm; I just spoke with them yesterday to increase one trip's coverage for the full/final payment.) The first two have longer hours and offer more products. Good luck and enjoy your trip!
