strelizia Posted August 24, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2018 Does Fred Olsen tend to stick to the embarkation times? I've travelled several times with Cunard and people are there well before the check in time on the letter!
nb125 Posted August 24, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2018 We have sailed with Fred from Southampton, Dover, Newcastle and Liverpool. We always arrive just before or at the first check in time and there have always been a lot of people before us. This does not mean, however, that they embark any earlier as I there is usually a strict order to embarkation. This is usually by deck starting at the top but on our last cruise they called diamond elite first, then by deck order.
Coravel Posted August 24, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2018 When we sailed from Southampton in June on the Braemar it really was first come first served. We were among the first there because we had stayed in the Holiday Inn at Winchester the previous evening and the taxi turned up rather earlier than we would have liked. They were not calling out decks nor Suites/Platinum/Gold as per usual. So we were literally first on board.

Was it a decent hotel - we are mostly interested in a good nights sleep with not too much noise? We are taking the car and will drive down to Southampton to park the car at the docks. Coravel Posted August 25, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2018 It's an excellent hotel and easy to find as it's on the outskirts of Winchester. We've stayed there quite a few times and left the car with them for the duration of the holiday. They take us to the terminal by taxi and bring us back after the cruise. I think we pay around £220-sh and that includes a very good breakfast. The hotel is very quiet and we have always had a good night's sleep. tring Posted August 25, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 25, 2018 (edited) Thank you for the reply Coravel, that is just the reassurance we need. Next summers cruise is with P&O, so we have parking included at the docks, but it would be a handy option if we want to find parking as well. Not done P&O for a couple of years, but the price is more appealing than with Fred and the itinerary better than most P&O offerings. Our Fred cruises are usually from other ports or be fly cruises. We have sailed from Southampton with Fred a couple of times, but flown back to Manchester, so had gone down by train (with the help of the Baggage Handling Company), and stayed in a city centre hotel.
